Love is in the air, but I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that this holiday does not lend itself to group activities where the group is multiple levels. The good news is that It came from the Blog is going to be having a party anyway: our second annual party on the Love Zeppelin. When: Saturday, Feb. 22 at noon EST (9 a.m. PST, 11 a.m. server time) Where: Meet near the flightpath in Orgrimmar on Zangarmarsh/Hellscream (US-PvE-H) Who: Any level Horde player, clothing optional How: Ask any member of It came from the Blog for an invite What: Fun, dancing, party games, love We won't be having a raid for this event, so any level character can join us. We hope to see you there! Updated: Some of the WoW Insider writers will be joining us, so you can ask them questions and otherwise rub virtual elbows with them. Please join us on Zangarmarsh/Hellscream (US-PvE-H) in It came from the Blog. All guild ranks can invite, so /whisper Tizzi or any online member. • Officers' Quarters: 8 gift ideas that won't break the gbank

    by

    12.23.2013

Every Monday, Scott Andrews contributes Officers' Quarters, a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. He is the author of The Guild Leader's Handbook. The holiday season is all about giving. It's the perfect time of year to hold contests and giveaways. Doing so can be a great way to build morale in your community or attract new players. Giving gifts to your officers as a guild leader is also a heartfelt way to show appreciation for their hard work throughout the year. However, many of the most desired items can cost a fortune in gold. For officers, manpower is often much easier to come by than raw currency. Here are eight items that make great gifts or prizes without bankrupting your gbank. 8. Discombobulator Ray Where to get it: An engineer can learn the schematic in Gnomeregan. Wowpedia has a walkthrough. It also has a small chance (0.5%) to drop from Mekgineer Thermaplugg, the last boss of the dungeon. What it costs: A small amount of gold for materials: bronze bars, silk and wool cloth, and jade. Why it's a good gift: Many players don't even know this vanilla-era item exists. It has a unique and hilarious effect, and you don't have to be an engineer to use it. It's also a devastating item for low level players to unleash in PvP.

    10.30.2013

Last Friday, It came from the Blog hosted its annual Candy Run. We met in Brill and put out the fires of the Headless Horseman. We then ran around to all of the inns that are easily accessible by running. We trick or treated in Silvermoon and all of the blood elf area inns as well as Tirisfal Glades and all of the undead area inns. We proceeded through Silverpine Forest, onward to Hillsbrad Foothills and ended the first part of the event at Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands. We then abandoned the lowbies and those of us with all of the flightpaths in the Eastern Kingdoms flew around together, trick or treating at all of the continent's inns. We started up north with the Hinterlands, Western Plaguelands and Eastern Plaguelands. Then we took the long trip to the Badlands and continued through the southern part of the continent, ending in Sassy Hardwrench's Hideaway in Stranglethorn, earning us the Tricks and Treats of Eastern Kingdoms achievement. This event was much longer than most of our events, but it was tons of fun nonetheless. We have an event every month, so stay tuned for the announcement for November's holiday outing. The snapshots for Candy Run 2013 are below. Please join us on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H) in It came from the Blog. All guild ranks can invite, so /whisper Tizzi or any online member. • Officers' Quarters: 6 tips for officers on soon-to-be-connected realms

    by

    Scott Andrews
    10.21.2013

Every Monday, Scott Andrews contributes Officers' Quarters, a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. He is the author of The Guild Leader's Handbook. Blizzard began the process of connecting realms a few weeks ago. After two successful connections, Blizzard is finally picking up the pace. Last week, they announced six more pairs that will soon become one. For officers, the weeks before and after a realm connection will be a crucial time. Here are some tips to put your guild in the best possible position within your newly forged community. 1. Don't wait for the connection. If you intend to recruit from the new population, the time to do so is right after the connection is announced. Players who are looking for guilds on the combined realms will start shopping around immediately. The guilds who are proactive in this phase are more likely to land those players. Visit the other realm's forums and say hi. You can post a recruiting announcement there, certainly, but you can do more than that. Introduce yourself. Ask questions about the realm you'll be connecting to and get to know the players there. Strike up conversations and become someone that forum users not only recognize, but like and respect. They will be far more likely to consider joining your guild when the time comes if they already know that an officer in the guild is a decent human being. You can take that one step further and roll an alt on the other realm prior to the connection. There's no better way to get to know a new realm than to play on it and meet the players there "in person."

    10.09.2013

Last month It came from the Blog celebrated Brewfest like we do every year: with lots of virtual beer and real fun. We began by meeting in Orgrimmar and then made our way over to the Brewfest grounds. We picked up quests and proceeded to Chug and Chuck. We then learned how to ride rams, which we were assured were not at all stolen, and proceeded to do some beer running. We then sold some brew by advertising it throughout Orgrimmar. Then the Dark Iron dwarves attacked. We fought them back by using our new found skills of chugging and chucking -- this year with non-alcoholic brew. So this was the first year we chucked without upchucking. I guess this was a good thing, though part of the fun was always having the screen get too blurry to see.

  • Uldum guilds unite for breast cancer awareness month

    10.03.2013

October is breast cancer awareness month in the United States. Here at WoW Insider we have featured a number of in-game events in the past that have been organized around raising awareness for breast cancer. This year, we have been informed that the guild Endless Insanity on Uldum is running their own event in support of breast cancer awareness. Members of Endless Insanity have turned their tabards pink for this month and they have issued a challenge to other Horde guilds on the server to also turn their tabards pink in solidarity. Guild officers will be randomly opening trade and offering a variety of goodies to those they find sporting the pink tabards. To those who have been affected by breast cancer -- whether you are a survivor, facing treatment right now, a loved one of someone who is, or have lost someone close to you to breast cancer -- we at WoW Insider salute you and wish you strength in your struggles. And to the guild Endless Insanity and any others that may follow their example this year, we thank you and hope that you inspire many to join in the efforts for the cure. Thanks to the members of Endless Insanity who informed us of their events -- and here's to hoping it inspires some other guilds to do the same!

  • The Guild Counsel: What's the worth of a website?

    08.29.2013

On the "to-do" checklist of practically every guild leader is setting up and maintaining a guild website. It's a central hub that serves as a source of news, a resource base, and a virtual locker room where members can bond with one another. But websites come with their fair share of drama and potential problems, and game changes through the years have put into question whether guild sites are still relevant. Have guilds outgrown guild sites? Let's look at whether they're worth it in this week's Guild Counsel.

Last Friday, It came from the Blog participated in Occupy Orgrimmar, protesting Garrosh's treatment of the trolls. It was a peaceful protest. After all, we're all still patriots. For the Horde! But we did our part to support the troll community. All of the trolls met in Sen'jin Village. Then we marched to Razor Hill and onward to Orgrimmar. We went straight to Grommash Hold and sat in Garrosh's chambers for a while. Protesta, my troll, made a speech showing solidarity with our fellow trolls.
