Obviously it is nearly impossible to match the number one Blu-ray release of all time, but that doesn't mean there isn't any worth watching this week. For starters there are three decent day and date releases with The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, It's Complicated and Disgrace. At the same time Universal busted open the catalog with six classics including the sci-fi classic Dune. Disney also has a few catalogs that should be popular with Armageddon and Tombstone. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (Sony) It's Complicated (Universal Studios) Dune (Universal Studios) Elizabeth (Universal Studios) Elizabeth: The Golden Age (Universal Studios) The Jackal (Universal Studios) Out of Africa (Universal Studios) Traffic (Universal Studios) Disgrace (Image) Armageddon (Walt Disney) Tombstone (Walt Disney) The Buddha (PBS) District 13: Ultimatum (Magnolia) Five Minutes of Heaven (MPI) Pride and Prejudice (A&E) Ride with the Devil (Criterion Collection)

Avatar comes out on Thursday and honestly we could end this post like that. Sure it isn't the most refreshing plot line, but 221k people voted on IMDB, and despite the new movie prejudice, it is ranked number 72 of all time -- which isn't easy to do. Although the 2D presentation of the movie in the theater was 2.35, the Blu-ray disc is 1.78, and no it isn't cropped. We know many out there will post in protest over the apparent double dipping, but we have little doubt that Avatar will rule every chart on every format it's available on. Also this week is a personal favorite, Minority Report, as well as the 80's and 90's Batman series which we have to say really doesn't hold up. Avatar (Fox) Crazy Heart (Fox) Minority Report (DreamWorks) The Lovely Bones (DreamWorks) 44 Inch Chest (Image) The Young Victoria (Sony) Batman & Robin (Warner) Batman (1989) (Warner) Batman Forever (Warner) Batman Returns (Warner) Cheech & Chong's Hey Watch This (Weinstein) Summer Hours (Criterion) Vivre Sa Vie (Criterion) The Telling (Terra) The Basketball Diaries (Palm)

We sure can't remember the last time there were only six new HD releases. In fact we'd bet we'd have to go back over two years to find a week this pathetic. the good news is that Universal finally brought Apollo 13 to Blu-ray and New Line has the classic A Nightmare On Elm Street. All the while releases one of the greatest classics of all time with Gone With the Wind. So if the single day and date release of Pirate Radio isn't for you, take the week off to catch up on some classics. Africa's Lost Eden (National Geographic) Apollo 13 (Universal) Gone with the Wind (Warner) A Nightmare On Elm Street (New Line) Pirate Radio (Universal) The Slammin' Salmon (Anchor Bay)

The thirty day delay for Netflix and Redbox owners continues with Sherlock Holmes from Warner being the latest victim. There are also a number of mentionable documentaries this week that are of interest like What Darwin Never Knew, Under the Sea and Big Sur - Wild California. Of course none are as big of a deal as next week's Lord of The Rings trilogy, even if it isn't the extended cut versions. Sherlock Holmes (Warner) Under the Sea (Warner) Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (Fox) The Baader Meinhof Complex (MPI) Collateral (DreamWorks) The Diary of Anne Frank (2009) (Well Go USA) An Education (Sony) Housebroken (Image) I Sell the Dead (MPI) The Killer (Dragon Dynasty) Big Sur - Wild California (National Geographic) Vampyres (Blue Underground) What Darwin Never Knew (PBS)

Another week in March of new releases means another Academy Award Winning performances as Sandra Bullock took home the big price for her work in The Blind Side. Great news for those who like to buy, not so much for the renters out there as this is the first big title to be subjective to Warner's 30 day rental embargo. Disney also continues to lay on the goods this month as it brings two of Pixar's bests with Toy Story and Toy Story 2 -- no mention of a 3D release though. The Blind Side (Warner) Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove (Warner) Toy Story (Walt Disney) Toy Story 2 (Walt Disney) The African Queen (Paramount) Brothers (Lionsgate) Mad Men: Season Three (Lionsgate) Days of Heaven (Criterion) Bigger Than Life (Criterion) Yojimbo (Criterion) Sanjuro (Criterion) Fantastic Mr. Fox (Fox) The Men Who Stare at Goats (Anchor) Phantom Punch (Screen Media) Red Cliff (Magnolia) Spring 1941 (Well Go USA)

If you're into great movies then this might be the week you've been waiting for as there are two that were nominated for best picture as well as other Academy Awards. But if Up In the Air and Precious aren't up your alley, then maybe Planet 51 and The Boondock Saints II is. There are also a number of titles out this week that deserve a look and we'd bet there is something for everyone. What can we say when the biggest title of the week only has an IMDB of 6.1? Not much but we will say that there are a few great kids movies and classics this week. Disney has Ponyo, while Warner has Where the Wild Thing Are, but personally we can't wait to see one of our childhood favorites in HD, The NeverEnding Story. 2012 (Sony) The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (Dragon Dynasty) Alice (Lionsgate) Clash of the Titans (Warner) Gentlemen Broncos (Fox) The NeverEnding Story (Warner) Ponyo (Walt Disney) The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (Screen Media) Where the Wild Things Are (Warner) Wild Australia: The Edge (Razor Digital)

What's left to say about this week that we haven't already said so many time before over the past three or four years that we've been doing this weekly post? At the top of this week's slate of new Blu-ray releases is Law Abiding Citizen from Anchor Bay. So yeah it's one of those weeks where honestly we don't know what to tell you. The only good news is that there is at least one solid catalog with Magnolia and you can finally try out those flipper discs for yourself -- yeah we know, that's not that good. We're really not sure what to say to Blu-ray fans, so we'll try the old college football saying with a little twist; maybe next week. We've seen a lot of big time box office hits this holiday season on Blu-ray, and while some of them were science fiction movies, not many of them have an IMDB score of 8.4 like District 9 does. This is one of those movies we wish we would've caught in the theater and we won't wait any longer to enjoy this one at home in HD. District 9 (Sony) It Might Get Loud (Sony) Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side (Fox) (500) Days Of Summer (Fox) All About Steve (Fox) American Pie Presents: The Book Of Love (Universal) Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (Anchor Bay) Extract (Miramax) Staten Island (E1)

The busy movie season takes a break off this week in regards to quantity, but not in quality as we have three day and date titles that're on the top 25 box office hits of 2009. The first is the animated G-Force from Disney. The other two are comedies and while we can't personally vouch for Inglourious Basterds, we can tell you that The Hangover if one of the funniest movies we've seen in a long time. It feels like just yesterday that Warner released the a Harry Potter movie as a way to decide which HD format it should abandon and now the whole world is Blu and this week Half-Blood Prince hits the shelves and it sure doesn't feel like two years later. In the TV show category, Disney has the 5th season of Lost and although that's one of our favorite shows, we're waiting on the complete collection. The real interesting one this week is Anchor Bay which really opened up the gates with 10 new Blu-ray titles in one week. The reviews are in and now Terminator Salvation can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home -- we do wonder why Warner didn't take the opportunity to release the ultimate Terminator collection, but we suppose that'll come later. Warner definitely has the strongest offering of any studio this week with a total of four titles including old favorites like Gremlins and The Green Mile. Also this week are two of our favorite British films with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, which are both entertaining and hilarious -- although not really comedies. Terminator Salvation (Warner) Ben 10: Alien Swarm (Warner) The Green Mile (Warner) Gremlins (Warner) Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (Universal) Snatch (Sony) A Christmas Tale (Criterion) Deadline (First Look) Death Warrior (Lionsgate) The Mask of Zorro (Sony) Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (Fox) Paper Heart (Anchor Bay) Ride Around the World (Image) Secondhand Lions (New Line) UltraMarathon Man (ChannelSources)

Oh how we love the holiday season -- no, not because we just love to argue with our family over a meal, but because it's the best time of the year for movie lovers who would rather watch HD movies at home then to trek out to the theater. And so the season continues with Angels & Demons which is the latest Dan Brown inspired movie. We haven't seen this movie yet, but our eyes were rolling pretty hard when we read the book -- you know, when the main character safely gliding to the ground without a parachute -- so this one isn't exactly at the top of our list. Lionsgate has also opened the flood gates with a large selection of catalog titles. Angels & Demons (Sony) Air America (Lionsgate) Angel Heart (Lionsgate) Cujo (Lionsgate) Frailty (Lionsgate) My Bloody Valentine (Lionsgate) New Police Story (Lionsgate) The Way of the Gun (Lionsgate) Four Christmases (New Line) Santa Buddies (Walt Disney) Shorts (Warner) The Sopranos: The Complete First Season (HBO) Funny People (Universal) Ghost In The Shell 2.0 (Manga) Blood: The Last Vampire (Manga) Gomorrah (Criterion Collection) Ink (Indieblitz) Megafault (Asylum) My Brilliant Career (Blue Underground) Superstar (Facets Video)

But also this week, there are a few new shows from Fox and HBO as well as more than one all time classic like Fight Club and The Professional. So in other words, if you don't see something you like this week, you don't like movies or TV shows. Big week for Pixar fans as the latest animated feature, Up, is released, along with the Pixar classic Monster, Inc. Warner continues to release catalogs, but with the size of its catalog, it could probably release four a week every week and still never finish. For the most part this is a good week for Blu-ray but we know you are with us when we say that next week is what we're really waiting for as Star Trek was probably the best movie to hit the theaters this year and it hits Blu-ray next Tuesday.
