We think Heelys could've saved on a few design dollars and just scribbled "mistake" across the bottom of its new Gamer collection of inexplicably Xbox 360-inspired kicks. Maybe that's just us.[Via Xbox 360 Fanboy]

Just when we thought we ran out of ideas on how to express our love for the Xbox 360 to the general public, shoe maker Heelys comes to the rescue. The shoe you see above is part of their "Gamer" collection which which is set to release next month and obviously take inspiration from the Xbox 360's controller. Ah heck with inspiration, the Heely company took a hammer to controller, smashed it up real good and stuck random buttons on the bottom of the shoe. Then again, we're sure it's a tad more scientific and professional than that. Anyway, we haven't come up with an official opinion on these Xbox 360 themed sneakers just yet, but when we do we'll be sure to praise or bash them accordingly. Though, it would be nice to always have a spare controller at hand foot.[Via The Xbox Domain]

  • Heelys put to good use: energy harvesting

If you've ever visited a British shopping mall, you'll be aware that there's a plague sweeping the formerly great nation: annoying little kids riding around on their "Heelys," sneakers with wheels in the rear of the heal. Christian Croft, obviously a frequent watcher of The Matrix, thought to turn this mischievous toy into a force for good -- or, at the very least, a source of energy for our inevitable overlords. The Energy Harvesting Derive is a project that plugs the wheel into a mini-generator, which is in turn plugged into a small LCD mounted above the toe of the shoe. That wheel powered LCD could in the future give out useful information once a GPS receiver is attached, although for now it's acting as an ironic urban art project and is giving out random directions, all in an attempt to get people lost so that they interact with their environment. Well in that case, sounds like just the thing it needs is GPS.
