If you're a movie buff who can't get enough of Hollywood's monsters, you might want to brace your wallet for impact. Famed special effects guru Rick Baker is auctioning over 400 items from his collection, including animatronics that were key to livening up aliens, apes and other creatures in big movies ranging from Gremlins 2 to the Men in Black series. The amount of technology involved might surprise you -- in many cases, what you saw on screen was just a small part of what was going on. The bidding doesn't start until the 29th, but we've rounded up some of the highlights in the gallery below if you can't wait to see what's up for grabs.

Costa Rican development house Green Lava Studios is ready to make their debut on PS4, with a hardcore 2D platformer called Fenix Rage. In an announcement post on the PlayStation blog, Green Lava CEO Eduardo Ramirez name-dropped Sonic The Hedgehog, Hellboy, and SWAT Kats as major sources of inspiration. "We were - and still are - big fans of Sonic The Hedgehog, and that influence is seen with Fenix's dashing attack as well as some of his animations when near an edge of a platform," Ramirez wrote. As for Hellboy and SWAT Kats, those franchises contributed to the game's art direction, which is full of bright colors and sharp, heavy shading. (Sidenote: Omigosh you guys, do you remember SWAT Kats?! They were the radical squadron!! *plays air guitar of the SWAT Kats theme/themes* ... Ahem.) As the first game on PS4 from a Costa Rican developer, Fenix Rage is also a source of pride for Ramirez. "Our country doesn't boast many well-known game developers so our team here feels a little bit of national pride," he wrote. "Well ... a little lucky, too." The game is expected to reach PS4 this fall. [Image: Green Lava Studios]

The CCP Presents Keynote at the annual EVE Online Fanfest is usually a fairly tame retrospective on how CCP has a company has done the past year and where it's going in the future, but for EVE's tenth anniversary, CCP broke out the big guns. In addition to announcing a massive new collector's edition, the studio has also revealed plans to turn real stories of events inside the sandbox into professional comic books and even a TV series. Industry giant Dark Horse Comics, the company responsible for comics like Hellboy and Sin City, will be publishing the 54-page graphic novel this winter in both a paid-for print form and a free digital download. For the lore buffs among us, Dark Horse will also be producing a colossal 184-page glossy colour hardback book covering all of the NPC backstory and lore behind EVE Online and DUST 514. Titled EVE Source, the book will be an in-character almanac of everything in the EVE setting that isn't player-created and will even include previously unreleased concept art.

  • Guillermo del Toro working on several games with a 'big company'

Visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, whose cinematic opuses include Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy films, recently told MTV Multiplayer that the "next few weeks" would bring about the announcement of his first foray into game development. Del Toro, who has long been an outspoken fan of gaming, explained he's partnering with a "big company" and is planning to "do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting." Given del Toro's unique cinematic and storytelling style, we'd love to see what he could do behind the helm of an interactive project. We're thinking it's either going to be a twisted, fairy tale-esque story with haunting visuals and thought-provoking mature themes, or a game about throwing sports equipment at towers of Jenga blocks.

So that's what that mysterious whiteboard was about! Judge Dredd is getting his own sticker pack in LittleBigPlanet, one of many upcoming packs to LittleBigPlanet. According to Edge, a number of graphic artists are collaborating with Sony's community-driven platformer. Jon Burgermann is one of the first artists confirmed to be designing a few stickers for the game.Media Molecule has approached a number of artists as well, such as Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and French artist Claire Wendling. Users who download stickers will be able to get a lot more functionality in the future as an upcoming patch will allow players to create items simply using stickers. "They are so empowering those bits because you just stick them on the materials, cut it out, and you've got like a handmade character."

15 Minutes of Fame is our look at World of Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes – from the renowned to the relatively anonymous, the remarkable to the player next door. Tip us off to players you'd like to hear more about.Last week, Mike Schramm introduced Abotu (Emerald Dream-US) and his to-die-for custom Troll Rogue action figure. Abotu has been sculpting custom figures as long as he can remember. "When I was little, if there was a toy I wanted that I didn't have, I'd try to make it myself out of modeling clay or construction paper," he remembers. He's done exactly that here by creating Abotu, his own World of Warcraft figure – puts Figureprints to shame, doesn't it? 15 Minutes of Fame visited with Aboto this week, not only to find out more about the player behind the talent but also to get inside scoop on exactly what went into making his Abotu custom. Our two-part look at Abotu the sculptor, the making of Abotu the action figure, plus photo galleries of the Abotu figure and other creations from this talented player ... after the break.

Were you able to make it to the Blu-ray exclusive live chat with Hellboy II director, Guillermo del Toro? If not, Engadget HD has you covered. The first-ever BD-Live chat didn't go without its hitches, but there's hope in knowing future interactive experiences will be better than this. The director touts the Blu-ray disc release an opportunity for the "perfect home theater experience," as it gives viewers access to a truly encyclopedic view of the production of a film. Hopefully, other big budget movies will be able to follow with their own live commentary sessions in future Blu-ray releases. Gallery: Hellboy II BD-Live director chat w/ Guillermo del Toro

We're finally starting to see the full potential of BD-Live come to life. BD-Live is the final Blu-ray movie standard, and it adds interactive online content to movies. One of the first discs to take advantage of BD-Live is the Hellboy II Blu-ray disc. Those that own the disc will be able to take part in a live chat with director Guillermo Del Toro this Sunday at 6PM EST. If you're interested in chatting, you need to register an account at UniversalHiDef.com and then log on to the movie using your PS3 (or BD-Live compatible Blu-ray player). The potential of BD-Live is quite exciting. Should the Del Toro chat go well, we can only hope that other studios also add these opportunities to their Blu-ray movies.

Clearly unwilling to be seen as anything other than the premiere Blu-ray release of the year, The Dark Knight will follow Hellboy II in featuring a BD-Live chat session with director Chris Nolan -- but apparently only for the first 100,000 registered purchasers (regular or Bat-Pod edition). As TheHDRoom points out, with over one million copies headed to shelves for the launch, you may want to grab yours early. Also coming to the Bat-Channel is video commentary sharing, while details like how to submit questions and exactly when the viewing party will take place are still unclear, fans have plenty to look forward to December 9th.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army director Guillermo del Toro (and avowed Blu-ray fan, take that Michael Bay) is the first to connect to viewers (as suggested by a particular EHD ed at the last CES) and chat live while watching the movie on Internet-connected players November 23. Exactly how "live" the chat will be remains to be seen, as questions will be submitted ahead of time on UniversalHiDef.com, before the event commences Sunday at 6 p.m. PST, but an opportunity to hear the director's responses in real time is not to be missed, and finally scratches the potential for Blu-ray's online capabilities. Still holding out hope for BD-Live? Make sure you're close to your PlayStation 3 this weekend, and think of a different question than "Here's my 10 suggestions on how to make The Hobbit totally awesome" 'cuz we already submitted that.

Just when we thought there wasn't another comic book movie this holiday season until The Dark Knight, along comes Hellboy, which we somehow forgot about. It's available both in regular and extra geeky, the latter will set you back another $20, but while both include a digital copy, only the Collector's Edition includes a scary looking figurine and we're not sure what else. Also this week, Weinstein has the made for TV movie about the NASCAR legend, Dale Earnhardt, which is sure to be a popular stocking stuffer for Blu-ray NASCAR fans -- not sure how many of those there are. Star Wars fans can look forward to the animated feature Star Wars: The Clone Wars, while WW2 junkies can can relive Band of Brothers for the first time on Blu-ray. That isn't the only TV show series this week though, as Warner has both the first season of Chuck and the third season of Supernatural. And finally, Fox offers up the first, and regrettably, the only season of Firefly. Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Universal) Hellboy II: The Golden Army Collector's Edition (Universal) 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story (Weinstein) Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Warner) Band of Brothers (HBO) Chuck: The Complete First Season (Warner) Supernatural: The Complete Third Season (Warner) JFK (Warner) Firefly: The complete series (Fox) Harry Potter Years 1-5 Giftset (Warner) This Christmas (Sony)

No, it's not a news related OMG Megaton. It's more like a "holy effing crap, look at all these games" kind of megaton. There are ten, ten games hitting the Xbox 360 this week. What's more, a lot of them look decent and, dare we say it, some of them even look good. Just look at all of 'em. Battlefield: Bad Company Top Spin 3 Supreme Commander Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath Alone in the Dark Hellboy: Science of Evil Hail to the Chimp Wall-E Operation Darkness Gears of War Refresh (2-Disc Edition) It's enough to give someone googly eyes. Alone in the Dark has our interest piqued (and has thus far fared decently in Europe). Here's hoping it -- and everything else here -- is up to snuff.[Via Joystiq]

We love Hellboy. There's no way around it really. From his square jaw to his stone fist to his glowing eyes, he really the most likable son of the devil we've ever known. Seeing as we like him so much, we really want Hellboy: Science of Evil to be a good game. We'll have to wait and see if that actually happens. These new screens look decent enough, but the video looks ... okay. We're keeping our hopes as low as possible. With any luck, we'll be pleasantly surprised. Check out all the new screens in the gallery below and find two more videos after the break. Gallery: Hellboy: Science of Evil (15 May 08)

Everyone's favorite stone-fisted, demonic antihero is following in the grand tradition of superhero adaptations -- begin with a cult classic Dark Horse mini-series, follow that up with a film adaptation starring the incredible Ron Perlman, and then continue to make the obligatory licensed action game of uncertain quality, in this case, the oft-delayed Hellboy: The Science of Evil. Our trademark trepidation is somewhat shaken by the above trailer's God of War-esque combat and frequent quips (delivered by Perlman himself, whose impressive video game repertoire includes voice acting roles in the Fallout and Halo series) -- has the ugly duckling we encountered at last year's E3 undergone a much-needed makeover?

You can finally rest easy today because we have new screens of Hellboy: Science of Evil. Based on the upcoming sequel to the awesome ... pretty good ... movie released in 2004, Hellboy: Science of Evil (from Konami) puts you in the role of, the Ron Perlman voiced, Hellboy as he battles the various forms of evil. The screens might look dated, but that's only because this game has been in development since mid-2006. As we all know way back in 2006 programmers has to walk uphill to work, both ways, in sixteen feet of snow. Things were rough.%Gallery-18978%

Hellboy is a licensed game. And it shows. Published by Konami, the game is developed by Krome Studios, famous for their work on Barbie Beach Vacation and Sunny Garcia Surfing.Like so many licensed games, Hellboy simply doesn't feel original or engaging. Although designed exclusively for PS3 and Xbox 360, the graphics are mediocre at best. The battle system focuses on Hellboy killing everything in his way. The environment features fairly standard items to pick up and use as weapons, and the battle system is systematically formulaic.Fans of the franchise will be comforted to know that Mike Mignola does have involvement with the game. However, strictly speaking, the Hellboy game failed to grasp our attention amongst a slew of much more interesting, original, and involving games.%Gallery-4819%
