Piqsure to provide fast full-resolution browsing of images on mobile devices
At Macworld | iWorld 2012 in January, fellow TUAW blogger Megan Lavey-Heaton and I were treated to an on-the-floor, off-the-cuff demo of a new technology in action. What we witnessed was full-resolution images coming in over a 3G connection onto an iPad, allowing zooming and scrolling of the images with no delay and with no on-board app required. The magic was courtesy of Piqsure, a company that is set to roll out this technology at Photoshop World in Washington, D.C. in late March. TUAW has received first access to a set of videos showing the technology in action. Visible in the videos embedded below are demonstrations of images being browsed from a website on an iPad, zoomed into and panned with no visible delay. The right hand side shows a hand using one, two, or three finger touch gestures to manipulate an image in Safari on an iPad 2. The image on the left hand side is the actual iPad video output to HDMI and captured for editing/titling. In the studio the iPad was connected using WiFi. No plugins are required. The technology also provides a way to keep the high-resolution images from being downloaded directly, perfect for photographers or artists who wish to display original works without concern of them being stolen.
