Every Thursday, WoW Insider brings you Scattered Shots for beast mastery, marksmanship and survival hunters. This week, your host Adam Koebel, aka Bendak will be discussing hunter macros. Macros are all about saving clicks and key presses. Next to addons, they are probably the largest quality of life enhancement you can add to your gameplay. For the uninitiated, macros are simple scripts that allow you to combine multiple abilities and conditional parameters into a single button. You don't need them to play, but the benefits are tangible and will improve your overall performance. If you're an engineer, take Synapse Springs for instance. It's off the global cooldown, which means you can stack it on top of other abilities to maximize its uptime and not worry about remembering to use it. Sometimes certain abilities will line up closely with other cooldowns which makes it beneficial to macro it in instead of using autocast. Have you ever noticed how slowly your pet will switch targets sometimes? Or when you tell it to Kill Command on a new target, but it attacks its previous target instead? There's a way to fix it with macros. As a keyboard abuser, one of my favorite macro perks is being able to remove the error messages and "spell not ready yet" sounds my character makes as I spam my buttons.

Though macros seem daunting at first to those not familiar with computer coding, they're really just a cut and paste away from making your character that much more powerful (and you looking more skilled). If you are confused about what any of these macros do, try Fitzcarin's Macro Explain-O-Matic site. It takes the macro code you give it and explains it in language you can understand. Killing 'em Slowly provides three useful warlock macros including one that casts a spell, procs a tinket and sends the pet to attack all with one push of a button. He also follows that up with a post on using mouseover macros keyed to specific warlock spells for wonderfully destructive results. Primal Precision provides quite a few macros for both cat and bear feral druids. The powershifting macro for instant rage and/or to break roots (for now) is particularly useful. Warcraft Hunters Union has asked its many members what macros they use. The comments to the post provide more hunter macros than you can shake a boomstick at. Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our WoW Resources Guide for more WoW-related sites.

Welcome to Scattered Shots. I am Eddie "Brigwyn" Carrington from The Hunting Lodge and I'll be your tour guide each Thursday as we explore what makes our Hunters tick and how we can make them better. Well, maybe not your mother. But you know us Hunters, we really love our macros. Unlike some other games out there, World of Warcraft gives players a pretty simple method to help customize their playing environment. We all know about the cool add-ons like Recount and RatingBuster. Now add to that the ability to arrange the look and feel of our User Interface and Blizzard really has done something special. Instead of trying to tackle those, I thought we could talk about the one that gives many of us players some difficulty: macros. And you know what? They really don't have to be that complicated. Before we get started, I would be remiss if I didn't at least explain little bit about macros. At least I need to define what macros are what they are not. Macros are a way to combine several commands (attacks, emotes, or other actions) and combine them into a single button press or click.

We recently had a request for some Hunter macro help, so I thought I would present some unique little gems for you ranged DPS types to use. First of all, let it be known that we we have talked about Hunter macros here before, more than once actually. Secondly, a good source of Hunter-specific macros would be WoWWiki's Useful Hunter Macro page. However, given those resources, you may find yourself wanting more. I turned back to the World of Warcraft forums, where I, once again, found some of Belleboom's work. The witty troll from the Earthen Ring server has written some useful macros for hunters, complete with slightly silly descriptions.I'll start us off with this macro, which determines what type of pet you have, and uses the appropriate ability:Dive/Dash/Growl/Wrench!: Casts Dive if you have an owl, dash if you have a cat, or growl if you have anything else... wrench optional. /cast [pet:owl] Dive; [pet:cat] Dash; [pet] Growl Next, a macro that feeds or uses Mend Pet depending on your current status:Feed/Mend Pet: Based on combat status. /cast [combat] Mend Pet; [nocombat] Feed Pet /use [nocombat] <FoodLinkHere> Come on back after the break for a few more.
