‘Transparent’ creator Jill Soloway heads new Amazon book imprint
Jill Soloway, creator of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning show Transparent, is heading another Amazon project. The company announced today that Soloway will be the editor-at-large of a new Amazon Publishing imprint, Topple Books, which will feature a diverse slate of writers working in narrative nonfiction and fiction. "We live in a complicated, messy world where every day we have to proactively re-center our own experiences by challenging privilege. With Topple Books we're looking for those undeniably compelling essential voices so often not heard," Soloway said in a statement. "I can't think of a more perfect collaborator than Amazon Publishing to make our dream of a revolutionary publishing imprint come true."
Netflix leads the streaming pack with nine Golden Globe nominations
Nominations for next month's Golden Globes ceremony were announced this morning and streaming services had a pretty decent showing. Netflix led the pack with nine TV nominations while Amazon and Hulu each received three.
Amazon resurrects 'The Tick,' greenlights two more shows
It's the time of year when Amazon's video division announces what new shows will make the cut and get a full series order. Today, we learned with great joy that The Tick is among Amazon's new shows, alongside I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson. As in typical Amazon fashion, pilots for the shows were shown off in advance and fans could vote on the ones that would become full-fledged shows (they could even view a few pilots on Twitch this year). Now that the roster has been finalized, the shows are set to debut in 2017.
Amazon will stream show pilots on Twitch for 24 hours
Amazon is no stranger to showing you series pilots to gauge your interest, but it's trying a different strategy this year. The internet retailer will stream its version of The Tick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson on Twitch for 24 hours on August 31st, roughly two weeks after their Amazon premiere on August 19th. That may sound like an odd move when Amazon-owned Twitch is still primarily known for gaming, but it makes sense considering the service's broadening horizons. There are plenty of people watching content on Twitch besides games, and it could attract viewers who otherwise wouldn't bother to visit Amazon to watch.
