Interpol is using AI to hunt down child predators online

The FBI may have scored a big win with operation Playpen, which helped dismantle a ring of TOR-based pedophiles and prosecute its members (thanks, Rule 41), but that was just one battle in the ongoing war against the sexual exploitation of children. That fight is now a bit easier for European law enforcement, which as debuted a new machine learning AI system that hunts for child porn on P2P networks.

You might not be happy that a hacker swiped millions of LinkedIn passwords back in 2012, but it sounds like you might soon get some justice. Czech police acting on behalf of the FBI and Interpol say they have arrested a Russian citizen suspected of compromising both LinkedIn and other US targets. Officials quietly caught the unnamed man in Prague on October 5th, but are only confirming the bust now for "tactical reasons." A court will decide whether or not the alleged hacker faces extradition to the US.

Ransomware is one of the most chilling type of malware floating around the internet: an attack that locks a user's files hostage behind an encrypted paywall. Universities, hospitals and even seats of government have fallen victim to these kinds of attacks, paying thousands of dollars in ransom to cyber-criminals in hopes of recovering precious data. Now, authorities and IT companies are fighting back. Intel Secruity, Interpol, the Dutch police and Kaspersky labs have teamed up to create No More Ransom, a web-portal with tool that help users remove ransomware without paying off their attackers.

  • Europe doesn't properly recycle most of its electronic waste

You probably know that you should recycle your old tech when you're done with it, but getting other people to do the same? That's quite hard, apparently. The United Nations and INTERPOL have found that only 35 percent of the European Union's electronic waste in 2012, about 3.2 million imperial tons, was recycled properly. The rest (6.1 million tons) was either exported, recycled improperly or trashed. And that's a problem beyond just the expected environmental issues, such as toxins making their way into landfills. Many crooks take advantage of this lapse by scavenging and smuggling e-waste -- that old laptop you chucked out might be a gold mine for a bootlegger hoping to sell its parts or raw metals.

Sorry, North America, the Europeans may be trying Trine, but the game isn't coming out this week. There's always the new free content for Arkham Asylum ... there, there, doesn't that just help make the Trine pain melt away? No? Well, there's the picture search game Interpol and the classic Final Fantasy Tactics, along with plenty of other content that may be of interest. Check it all out after the break. • Interpol reluctantly brings the 'I, Spy' genre to PS3

TikGames is bringing one of its first XBLA games to PlayStation Network next week -- and we're not entirely sure why. Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos is a game where you must find things in pictures. Seriously, that's it. While this may be fun for casual gamers and children, we find it unlikely that PS3's hardcore gamer community will find it particularly engaging. The critics certainly didn't, giving it a Metacritic score of 45.Let's hope the PS3 version won't cost the same as the Xbox 360 version: $10. But to save the most money, take this advice from Joystiq's Richard Mitchell in this old XBLA in Brief video: "you could buy a copy of Highlights and do the exact same thing."

Let's face it, 2008's XBLA lineup did not go out with a bang. One week later, the first XBLA title brings in the new year with about the same level of excitement. Yes, Interpol brings all the excitement of hidden item searching to Xbox Live Arcade. We're not exactly sure we were really craving it in the first place, but it's here now whether we like it or not. If throughout the night you were dreaming of wielding a virtual magnifying glass to help solve fake crimes then Xbox Live has made your wishes come true. Today on the Arcade, dream makers at TikGames have released Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos, which is entirely too cool a name for the game it's attached to. Clocking in at 135MB, Interpol is basically an eyesight test that up to four people can play online. Players are given a list of items and using an over-sized magnifying glass they pick them out of a static HD screen shot. You know, let's not poo-poo this one right out of the gate. Apparently the series is quite popular on PC and does offer a nice relaxing change of pace ... for 800MS points. Plus, where else can you play as an internationally respected agent who solves crimes by standing 30 yards away from a scene holding a giant magnifying glass? You know, like real po-lice.Click here to download the free trial of Interpol

This Wednesday, January 7th, TikGames' investigative puzzler Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos will be making its way to the Xbox Live Arcade. Please, hold your thunderous applause and ear deafening whistles of excitement. The 800 Microsoft point Interpol is a puzzler-style game at its core, coming complete with detective work, seek and uncover missions, clue searching and plenty of mini games. It does boast four player co-op, but we aren't sure if you'll be able to find three other folks to play with. Only kidding (no we aren't).%Gallery-40601%

Fans of I Spy and Where's Waldo? will get a chance to bring that "fun" and "excitement" to their Xbox 360 with TikGames' upcoming release, Interpol. This Winter, Xbox Live Arcade game Interpol will have you strategically staring at your television on a mission to spot hidden object and hidden bits among the unorganized clutter. This begs one important question, will HD display owners have a significant edge over their SD counterparts? It has already been proven that HD clutter is much easier to sift through ... we're just saying. Gallery: Interpol (XBLA)

With its aggressive pursuit of the casual market, it makes sense that Microsoft would want one of the most popular types of casual games -- seek-and-find -- to be represented on Xbox Live Arcade. Fans of the genre will finally be able to get their squint on when TikGames brings newly-announced Interpol to the download service. If you've been chomping at the bit to stare endlessly at messy rooms, you'll get your chance this Winter for 800 ($10).%Gallery-38426%
