Apple may be working on a smaller and cheaper version of the iPhone 11 for 2020. TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a strong track record of accurate Apple predictions, expects the company to launch the so-called iPhone SE2 early next year. It'd bring the A13 chip and 3GB of LPDDR4X memory to an iPhone 8 form factor.

Do you deeply regret passing on the iPhone SE before Apple cut it out of the lineup? You now have another chance to get it. Apple has quietly resumed selling the iPhone SE as a clearance item in the US, starting at $249 for a 32GB model (down from the original $349) and $299 for a 128GB version (a sharp drop from the initial $449). These aren't used models, either -- they're shiny new, or at least as shiny new as you can get for a phone that went mostly unchanged since its 2016 debut.

Whenever Apple announces new iPhones, it inevitably drops some older models from the lineup. But there's a bigger sea change than usual this time around, because Apple is no longer selling any phones with 3.5mm headphone jacks.

Authorities are persisting in their efforts to get access to the Texas mass shooter's iPhone despite having missed an early opportunity. The San Antonio Express-News has learned that Texas Rangers served Apple warrants for data on both the perpetrator's iPhone SE and a basic LG cellphone. In the case of the iPhone, the state law enforcement unit wants access to both local and iCloud info (such as calls, messages and photos) produced since January 1st, 2016.

    The best phones under $500

Phone makers are trying to outdo one another by racing to add new, advanced features to their flagships, but these tools are not equally useful. Who really needs Face ID, Animoji or eye-sensing authentication? Some of us just want a good, no-frills phone. Plus, not everyone can or wants to spend almost a thousand dollars on something we'll trade in after two years. For these people, there's a range of options from truly basic sub-$250 phones to more powerful mid-range devices that can be had for less than $500. The latter group is better described as aggressively priced flagships that can serve you almost as well as their costlier counterparts -- and there's now a decent selection to consider.

Apple has begun building iPhones in India, a huge victory for that country's push for more companies to build products locally. According to The Wall Street Journal, iPhone SE models are being assembled at Wistron's plant in Karnataka. Apple has since confirmed that a small number of handsets have been produced, and are due to be shipped to customers in the near future.

Apple doubles the storage of the iPhone SE and iPad Mini 4

The new, limited-edition red iPhone 7/7 Plus and upgraded 9.7-inch iPad aren't the only things Apple has to share today. The company is also increasing the storage across all iPhone SE and iPad Mini 4 configurations. The lowest-capacity 4-inch iPhone SE is now 32GB, up from 16GB, and the 64GB model has been scrapped in favor of a 128GB version. Basically, Apple has doubled the storage and finally killed off the last 16GB iPhone, but good news: The prices haven't changed. The new 32GB iPhone SE costs $399/£379 (the same price as the old 16GB device), while the 128GB model comes in at $499/£479. Both will go on sale this Friday, March 24th.

Apple has made a tradition of marking World AIDS Day with a campaign to donate to the Product (RED) charity, and it's going the extra mile for its 10th year of support. On top of the company's existing (RED) gear (which sends a contribution to the Global Fund's fight against AIDS), it's launching four new accessories and devices that count toward the charity. You can get red versions of the iPhone 7 Battery Case, the leather iPhone SE case, Beats Solo 3 Wireless headphones and the Beats Pill+ wireless speaker. All of these are available today, and there are other ways to help out even if you have no intentions of buying hardware.

T-Mobile tells iPhone owners not to install iOS 10 just yet (Updated)

T-Mobile issued a stern warning to its customers against downloading and installing the new iOS 10 update to their existing 6, 6 Plus and SE iPhone models. According to the T-Mobile website, doing so will, cause the handset to "lose connectivity [to the T-Mobile network] in certain circumstances." Once that happens, the user can only re-establish their network connection by fully powering down the phone and restarting it. That said, the company does expect Apple to push a corrective patch live within the next 48 hours.

It took us a while, but now that we've reviewed the Moto Z, we think we're done testing flagship phones until the iPhone 7 or next Galaxy Note come out (whichever arrives first). With that in mind, we can now confidently say that the following phones belong in our buyer's guide: the Samsung Galaxy S7, the HTC 10 and the iPhone SE. (Sorry, LG, maybe next year.) While we were at it, we also inducted the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR headsets, since we likely them more or less equally. And, in the less-expensive realm, we added the Roku Streaming Stick in the A/V category. Head over to our buyer's guide hub for all the details on these and many more. That's it for now, but stay tuned -- who knows what we'll add after the next gadget-reviewing frenzy.

  • Mini review video: Our verdict on the iPhone SE in about a minute

No, it's not the most exciting iPhone release, but the new SE still has a clear purpose: At $399, it's Apple's most affordable handset yet. Meanwhile, its 4-inch screen is likely to appeal to nostalgics who miss smaller iPhones. Indeed, the SE is nigh-indistinguishable from the three-year-old 5s, save for a Rose Gold color option and some minor differences in the finish. At the same time, though it looks like a phone from 2013, its internals are mostly on par with the 6s, which only came out last fall. The only things you'll be giving up are the 6s' superior front-facing camera and faster Touch ID sensor. Then again, you do get longer battery life in exchange, so there's that to consider. All told, then, the SE is a great deal for the money, and deserves its strong score of 89.

The iPhone 5s is starting to show a few grey hairs, but Apple's keeping the 4-inch form factor alive with the iPhone SE. Essentially an iPhone 6s massaged into a smaller, thicker frame, the iPhone SE went on sale last week -- though if you haven't taken the plunge already, maybe you won't have to. Thanks to our friends at Mobilefun.co.uk, we've got an iPhone SE (Space Gray, 16GB model) to send the way of one lucky reader this week. And being something of an accessory specialist, the retailer has also thrown in no less than five covers and cases to compliment the winner's new handset. As always, entries are handled by the Rafflecopter widget below, but please gives the rules a quick read first to ensure you're eligible to participate.

  • Verizon plans $20 upgrade fee, even if you paid for your new phone

Eyeing up the small but nimble iPhone SE? If you're on Verizon, you'll want to make the switch sooner rather than later. According to a memo leaked to MacRumors, the company is planning to introduce a $20 dollar upgrade fee, irrespective of whether you're paying full price for the phone upfront or own it outright. The memo says this fee is there to cover "our increasing support costs associated with customers switching their devices," which sounds incredibly suspect.

Now that Apple has produced an updated small iPhone, naturally the next question is what's inside? iFixit stands at the ready with spudgers, screwdrivers and other tools for their latest teardown. Not just an iPhone 6s in the body of an iPhone 5s, the iPhone SE blends components from both devices, plus some custom pieces to make it all work together. For extra angles, Creative Electron has contributed some X-ray looks at the device while Chipworks drops in their usual detailed breakdown of components.

Where to buy Apple's iPhone SE in the UK

"Let the 4-inch form factor not perish with the aging 5s," bellowed Apple; and thus, the iPhone SE came to be. Apple's latest handset, aimed at smaller paws and skinny jeans, is a curious blend of old and new. That's true of the design, at least, but inside you're effectively looking at an iPhone 6s, the only major difference being the lack of 3D Touch. And as you may have guessed, the little power puncher goes on sale today. But where, and for how much?

Even though we all knew it was coming, Apple's iPhone SE announcement still managed to raise eyebrows ... and plenty of questions. Is there still a market for a 4-inch iPhone? Is Apple playing it safe with its design? Arguably, the answer to both these questions is yes, but after a week of using the iPhone SE, I can safely say that none of that matters. Regardless of Apple's reasons for making this thing, the iPhone SE is a lovely smartphone for iOS newcomers and small-handed users alike.

  • Apple opens pre-orders for the iPhone SE and new iPad Pro

Usually, a few days after an Apple event, I log on from Europe in the morning and wonder why so many American's are still online. That day is iPhone pre-order day. That day is today, if you're after the diminutive SE, or 9.7-inch iPad Pro, both announced on Monday. If you're set on the phone, then your choices are fairly straight forward. It's only available in (much-maligned) 16GB, and more reasonable 64GB editions costing $399 and $499 respectively -- on all four main US carriers. If you're trading up from an iPhone 5s or earlier, Apple will shave a few bucks off your payment plan, but you might be better off just selling your older handset privately.

Covering a keynote from a big tech company makes for a busy day at Engadget, and yesterday's "Loop You In" event at Apple's Cupertino campus was no exception. Our fearless senior mobile editor Chris Velazco liveblogged the presentation, and then immediately got hands-on with the newly announced iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The rest of the team, meanwhile, was busy writing up all the news, which also included iOS and tvOS software updates, price cuts for the iPad Air 2 and Apple Watch, and some frank remarks from Tim Cook about the company's recent fight with the FBI. Now that the madness has subsided, it's time for us to take a step back and gather our thoughts. Here's what we actually think about it all.

We've had years to get used to the the iPhone 6 family and its curvy lines, but some people still yearn for the crisper angles -- and smaller screens -- of iPhones past. For them, Apple's new iPhone SE comes across as a sort of low-cost love letter. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, Apple took most of what was special about the iPhone 6s and stuck it into a close approximation of the handsome, chamfered body made famous by the iPhone 5. I just got the chance to put the SE through its paces, and one thing seems clear from the get-go: It's a fascinating blend of old and new that will probably sell like hotcakes.
