TiVo fundraising with self-branded toasters / snowglobes
While just about everyone has experienced their fair share of ups and downs with TiVo, it's great to see the smiley TV box raising funds for two meaningful causes. The firm is offering up self-branded toasters and snowglobes (for $45 and $28, respectively) to its employees in order to raise money for the James Kim Memorial Fund and The Katrina Fund. Of course, it could be slightly difficult to get your hands on either of these adornments if you can't badge into TiVo HQ everyday, but perhaps a saintly reader could be a liaison for a group buy? Regardless, even if you're still using one of the eight toasters you got as a graduation gift or you've severed all ties with TiVo (and jumped ship), here's to lending a helping hand to those in need. Keep reading for a taste of TiVo toast...[Via PVRWire]

Evan Blass12.06.2006Possible article of James Kim's clothing found in Oregon wilderness
With Kati and the Kim children safely recovered from the Oregon wilderness, the search has been on since yesterday with renewed vigor to find James Kim, the missing and much-missed senior editor at CNET. He left his family Saturday in search of help, and has been missing since. Today apparently trackers found a pair of jeans in the vicinity of the search which are thought to belong to James. It's yet unknown whether these do belong to James, but if so it's puzzling why he would have dropped or shed these pants in the bitter-cold Oregon outback. Apparently James left equipped with a heavy jacket, sweater, and a couple of lighters, although nothing was mentioned about spare pants. More as we get it.Update: Oregon officials in a press conference this afternoon have stated their search is continuing; aside from the article found earlier today, supposedly another article has been spotted, although not yet recovered. The search is primarily taking place right now in the Big Windy Creek drainage area, which is five miles long, and roughly five miles away from the car site.As we understand it, the National Guard is enroute for more searching tonight. Due to the terrain officials are still having trouble getting into at least one particular search area. When asked why he dropped into the ditch: "I don't know, I'm looking forward to asking him that personally. ... We're operating under the assumption that he is alive, and won't stop until we find him.""This is frustrating, we are so close.""We are treating this search like we are looking for one of our own family members.""If I run out of resources I'll call for more help. But we want to stay away from private citizens volunteering."
Ryan Block12.05.2006Kati Kim and children found, James Kim still missing
Kati Kim and the Kim children (Sabine and Penelope) were just found alive in Oregon; they apparently flagged down a search and rescue helicopter that was hunting for the missing family. James Kim is still missing, however. From what we understand he left two days ago in search of help. We do not yet know how deep in the Oregon wilderness the Kim family was, the circumstances that brought them there, or the condition of Kati and her children, although she and the children have been airlifted to a local hospital. More news as we get it.For those unfamiliar, CNET editor James Kim and his family have been missing in Oregon for over a week now. All our previous coverage can be found here.CNET has more information here. A press conference will be held at 5:00PM PST today. CNET TV is rebroadcasting that conference online. We will be liveblogging it here to keep you up to the minute with the latest Kim family updates.Press conference updates: Apparently James's tracks were found for two miles leading away from their car, and followed along the side of a road, over a ridge and into a ravine. Choppers will continue the search through the night with night vision optics.Kati and the children are reportedly in "very good shape." Carson helicopters, Randy Jones, and federal agencies had four ships in the air at all times, and were assisted by Edge Wireless's cell-tower hit model which helped locate the Kims' wireless signals. The search will continue with dogs, more choppers, and all possible resources 24x7. James is likely to have made it as far as 20 miles. The Kims were stuck in the snow off a main road; for the last 8 days the family kept warm at night by running their car. Eventually the Kims burned tires at night when the gas ran out. James left his family at 7:45AM with the intention to return by 1:00PM that day, but obviously has not yet returned. Those concerned are encouraged to check FlashAlert.net for further updates.Update (12/5): In another press conference this morning, we learned that while searching for James Kim in the Oregon wilderness heat traces were spotted with infrared cameras. Unfortunately those attempting to find James have been unable to get into the area where the heat traces were spotted, and unable to yet verify if this is James (or a woodland animal). Another press conference has been scheduled for 4:15PM PST today; we'll keep you up to the minute.

Just a brief update in case you haven't caught the latest: Crave reports that James and his family are driving a 2005 silver Saab station wagon with license plate "DOESF." We'll keep everybody updated as we learn more. Also, our very sincerest thanks to all our readers -- many of whom obviously love CNET and James's work there -- for their support and compassion.
