NVIDIA's $1,100 AI brain for robots goes on sale
NVIDIA's plan to power autonomous robots has kicked off in earnest. The company has released a Jetson AGX Xavier Module that gives robots and other intelligent machines the processing oomph they need for their AI 'brains.' You're not about to buy one yourself -- it costs $1,099 each in batches of 1,000 units. However, it could be important for delivery robots and other automatons that need a lot of specialized performance with relatively little power use.
NVIDIA focuses on AI in the internet and for industries
NVIDIA's graphics technology is useful for a lot more than just lining up pixels on gamer's monitors, and in a presentation at the GPU Technology Conference, CEO Jensen Huang revealed a few more layers of its plans. The Jetson AGX Xavier platform unveiled earlier this year for autonomy is rolling out, and now developers can order a Drive AGX Xavier devkit to test software for self-driving vehicles. Speaking of AGX, NVIDIA announced that several Japanese companies (FANUC, Komatsu, Musashi Seimitsu and Kawada Technologies) will integrate the Jetson technology into their autonomous robots.
NVIDIA wants to power intelligent robots with Jetson Xavier
NVIDIA is hoping to play a bigger role in the future of robotics with its Isaac platform, powered by the new Jetson Xavier system-on-a-chip. If that name sounds familiar, it's because it's relying on the same the processor from the Xavier Drive self-driving SOC. The Xavier is over 20 times faster than the existing Jetson TX2 platform, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang revealed at Computex today. While that last SoC was useful for products like delivery robots and drones, Huang is calling the Xavier the "world's first computer for intelligent robots."
