A lot of the App Store's biggest apps have been on sale this weekend, and a few holdouts dropped prices earlier today. If your head hasn't hit the pillow yet after your local fireworks extravaganza, make sure to grab some of these while the prices are low: The Real Racing series is on sale, with the first title only 99 cents on the iPhone. All of the other iPhone and iPad titles are also at discounted prices. Vito Technology (creators of the popular Star Walk, Solar Walk, and Geo Walk apps) has put a few of its apps on sale today only. Konami has joined the party, dropping titles like Castlevania Puzzle, Metal Gear Solid Touch, and X-men to just 99 cents each. Death Rally is on sale yet again, for just 99 cents. There's also a new update available for the app that adds a new car and a new gameplay type. Finally, to celebrate the patriotic holiday and the new movie coming out, Marvel Comics has dropped the price on Captain America comics in its official app. Enjoy those apps, and we hope you had a safe and happy holiday!

Even though there's currently all the sunshine you can grab for free outside, Amazon is offering up a big Buy One Get One Free sale on video games, earning you two different titles for the price of one. There are some clunkers in there (and a few of the titles are sold out), so you might have to pick and choose a little bit, bargain-bin style. But there are still some good deals to be had, including Fear 2: Project Origin, Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Lost Planet 2, Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions, and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor all free when you buy another one. The online retailer also just posted its new Video Games Deals of the week, Duke Nukem Forever for $38, Hunted: The Demon's Forge for $40, the Wii's Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident for only $15 and more. Just one request: Once you order as many as your wallet will allow, please do get at least a couple of breaths of fresh air.

July 4th is the weekend for fireworks, BBQs, and good times in the United States of America -- not to mention some excellent app sales. Here's a few more: MacGameStore has a big Independence Day sales weekend going on, featuring Mac versions of Civ IV for $14.95, Spore for $9.99, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for $39.95. MacPhun's dropped four apps down to the low price of free for the weekend: Silent Film Director, Cartoonatic, Doodle Cam, and ArtCamera. G5 Entertainment is dropping Romance of Rome, Virtual City, and Supermarket Management down to $.99 on the iPhone, and $2.99 on the iPad. Supermarket Mania 2 is also on sale, for $2.99 on iPhone and $4.99 on the tablet. Flickr HD, one of our Daily Apps, has a dramatic sale this weekend: $0.99 (regularly $4.99). Rockin Ted is another free app to check out. Finally, Steam is having a huge Summer Camp sale this weekend, with dozens of rotating titles going on sale every day. There are a lot of games in there, and a lot of great deals -- keep an eye out for the "SteamPlay" icon, as all of those games work on both Mac and PC. I'm pretty sure most of the sales going up this weekend are out at this point, but we'll keep an eye out for any more going on. We also occasionally tweet out app sales and updates on our Twitter account, so follow us over there if you want up-to-the-minute deals on Mac and iOS software!

Here's a few more sales popping up for the July 4th weekend: EA (duh) is putting a bunch of titles on sale for just 99 cents, including NBA Jam, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, The Sims 3, FIFA 11, and Dead Space. Odds are that you've already picked one or two of these up, as EA is having a sale practically every weekend these days, but 99 cents is still a good price for a few of these. Adult Swim has some sale titles out, including the great Robot Unicorn Attack for just a buck. Trucks and Skulls Nitro just recently got a big update, and to celebrate, it'll be free for the holiday weekend. Zen Bound and its sequel are also on sale for just a buck. Gameloft is also having a dollar sale, with Dungeon Hunter 2 and Starfront Collision among the titles for just 99 cents. Cross Fingers is a puzzle app that's free right now. Speedball 2 Evolution is on sale for both iPhone and the Mac this weekend. Finally, BillMinder will be heavily discounted on July 4 only. I'm sure we'll see plenty more before the weekend is done, but that's probably more than enough to let you do some shopping already. Stay tuned -- as we hear about more apps going on sale, we'll let you know as well.

We just had some big Father's Day sales on the App Store, but Independence Day is coming up this weekend in the U.S., and that means it's time to get started with sales yet again. First off, Tom Tom has put its navigation apps on sale for half price over the next 48 hours. You can get the full U.S. and Canada app for $39.99, or pick up just the U.S. map for $34.99. It was just updated with new maps and features, too, so that's a good deal if you need a high quality navigation solution. We'll likely be seeing lots more App Store sales this weekend, so stay tuned. Odds are that before the week ends, we'll see games, apps, and more all on sale for you to pick up for both iPhone and iPad.

  • Boom, boom! Happy Fourth of July everyone!

Today's the day Americans celebrate their independence, blow things up, eat lots of grilled food and hang out with friends and family. Some even, believe it or not, ritually drink a little too much this July 4th and get themselves in heaps of trouble. But that's a story for another time. Make today all about sharing time with those around you and if you have nothing planned then hop onto Xbox Live, play some games with friends or just Boom Boom Rocket the day away. It'd be like your own personal fireworks show on your TV without risking second degree burns. From everyone here at Xbox 360 Fanboy, we raise our sparklers to our fellow readers, freedom and those who fight for it. Have a wonderful and event filled July 4th!

That's right, roughly a year ago this blog kicked off, with posts that looked a lot like the ones we have now. We've decided to celebrate our birthday on July 4th (that's right, we're giving you a day off of work to celebrate HD Beat). It's been a great year of high-def news, from easter eggs to Entourage, from 1080p to Ultra HD, and we look forward to giving you even more in the next year. We'd like to thank our friend Kevin who brought us all to HD Beat, and of course you our readers and commenters. We'll recount a few of our favorite (and least-favorite) HD stories from the past year and we invite all to contribute in the comments.
