Okay, fine -- Assassin's Creed's Lucy, the mousey assistant who helped operate the DNA-reading Animus device, was pretty boring. That blame can't really be placed upon the adorable shoulders of Kristen Bell, who voiced the character. She did the best she could with the ... it's not like she had a ... she's Veronica Mars! We can't speak ill of Veronica Mars! A recent batch of promotional photos have confirmed Bell's involvement in Assassin's Creed 2. She'll perform the role of Lucy again, and she'll perform it flawlessly, like everything else she's ever done in her entire life. Ever. %Gallery-74543%

You'll remember Kristen Bell from her less-than-endearing performance as Lucy in Assassin's Creed a couple years ago (and you should remember her from TV's Veronica Mars). Bell's back in the sound booth to record another game voice, playing Cora in Astro Boy, the upcoming movie-based adaptation. According to the video interview above, her character is a "17-year-old, edgy girl," immediately demonstrated by her declaration, "Sorry, we don't need any newbies." Good to know! (We were worried.)

We'll admit it -- we're fans of Ms. Bell, from the spunky, spitfire junior private eye she played in Veronica Mars to the unseen, but ever present blogger in Gossip Girl, and even the lead in the god-awful Pulse. So, naturally, when she let it slip last December that she was contributing to Assassin's Creed, our hype meter exploded under the pressure. Now, giving us a little taste, Ubisoft released the first image of what Kristen Bell looks like in the game. Despite a less than flattering hair style, the actual rendering looks extremely similar. Speaking about Kristen Bell, producer Jade Raymond stated she "is a remarkable actress who was able to bring her character to life in a dynamic way that I don't think anyone else could have done properly." We'd still prefer some QT with the less creepy Bell any day of the week, though.

  • Assassin's Creed secrets spotted! Mission failure...

Heh, stealthy games end when you're seen. That's when all hell breaks loose. Not unlike that, when a game with a "big twist" suddenly decides to leak the secret, it's game over for the hype. Did we seriously just use "game over" to describe something? Oh well. Now, this came about a few days ago and we missed it (damned finals and their time-consuming textbookery!) but since Assassin's Creed is a PS3 and a 360 title, it's still worth giving the shout out.Kristen Bell, the famous (and good-lookin'... sorry, I'm a pig, I know...) actress spilled the beans in a recent interview regarding the twist of the upcoming title. Here's what she said: "It's actually really interesting to me. It's sort of based on the research that's sort of happening now, about the fact that your genes might be able to hold memory. And you could argue semantics and say it's instinct, but how does a baby bird know to eat a worm, as opposed to a cockroach, if its parents don't show it? And it's about this science company trying to, Matrix-style, go into peoples brains and find out an ancestor who used to be an assassin, and sort of locate who that person is."You know, what really annoys me, personally, about this is the fact a few months ago I started up a short story regarding what I decided to call "Persistent Eternally Linking Memories"... PELM. It's a neato story, but now that this game is apparently going a similar route, I feel I'd be regarded as a "me-too" storyteller. Oh well, it at least makes me interested enough to see how they present the material. What do you guys think? What sort of memory tricks will be wrought in Assassin's Creed? And seriously, can Ubisoft stop monopolizing the beautiful girl circuit? What with Assassin Creed producer, Jade and Kristen... sorry, lost my train of thought in those eyes...

Speaking with IGN TV about her role in Assassin's Creed, Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell offered a surprising take on Ubisoft's upcoming title:"It's sort of based on the research that's sort of happening now, about the fact that your genes might be able to hold memory. And you could argue semantics and say it's instinct, but how does a baby bird know to eat a worm, as opposed to a cockroach, if its parents don't show it? And it's about this science company trying to, Matrix-style, go into peoples brains and find out an ancestor who used to be an assassin, and sort of locate who that person is."Huh? We thought Assassin's Creed was about the Third Crusade? Guess there is something to that mysterious 'after-death screen' (see video; jump to 5:35). Too bad Ubisoft was unavailable for comment.
