  • Amazon will pull its movies from theaters to Prime faster

Ever since Amazon began developing its own movies it's had to strike a balance between theatrical success and streaming popularity. Films such as Late Night have been relative flops in cinemas but widely-viewed on Prime, while others --Manchester by the Sea, for example -- have performed well across the board. Now, Amazon says it's going to shorten the window between movies hitting the big screen and arriving on Prime, in a bid to mitigate some of the uncertainty associated with theatrical releases, and to get them in front of viewers at home, where the big numbers are.

  • Netflix and Chelsea Handler will 'revolutionize the talk show' -- two years from now

Netflix is adding a new category to its rapidly expanding stable of original content: the talk show. The subscription video service confirmed long-running rumors today, announcing it's signed a deal with comedian and host Chelsea Handler for a show it will begin distributing in early 2016. The "world'’s leading Internet TV Network" plans to create a show for all of its territories that viewers can enjoy however and whenever they like. Before that happens, Netflix and Handler will team up for a stand-up special Uganda Be Kidding Me that will tape tomorrow in Chicago and come to the service on October 10th. She's also going to wrap up the seventh season of her current show Chelsea Lately (not familiar? A sample from its YouTube channel is included after the break.) for the E! network on August 26th and in 2015, create four "docu-comedy" specials for Netflix. The specials will show Chelsea trying to learn about subjects including NASCAR, politics, Silicon Valley and the NBA Draft and of course, lead in to the "First-Ever Talk Show for the Global On-Demand Generation." It's just a fact that raiding normal or heroic raids is a communal activity. When you said "I cleared Heroic ToES before the patch" what you mean is "We cleared Heroic ToES before the patch" because unless you have a Martin Fury in your bags, you didn't solo it. Progression raiding is always about the group. You don't accomplish things we do. The same is true for arenas or rated battlegrounds - these bastions of elite PvP are group activities, and your success or failure is shared with others. World of Warcraft is an MMO, after all. Even LFR or random heroic dungeons or scenarios are group dependent, it's just that in these cases the groups are assembled for you by the game. You may well queue up for each of these alone, and you may leave and go about your business afterwards just as alone, but the actual raid, dungeon or scenario will have other players in it with you. This is an inescapable, inseparable part of the WoW experience, and it is one of the things I enjoy about the game. However, as much as I do enjoy group activities, as much as I love raiding and going into a dungeon or raid zone with a group, there are times I just want to be alone. And it is this desire to sometimes play at my own pace, to my own schedule, that has me reconsidering my expansion-long disdain for the daily quest structure of World of Warcraft.

Couldn't stay up till 12:37AM? We'll forgive you... in time. Thankfully, the wonders of the internet are enabling you to travel back to catch our own Josh Topolsky's holiday jam party with Late Night's Jimmy Fallon. Also appearing: teenage jokes, visions of a lunar eclipse, legally / illegally downloaded content and the Nexus X. Yeah, the X. See what we mean in the pair of videos just past the break.

Lest you weren't glued to your television sets last night, our own Josh Topolsky raised quite a bit of mayhem on Jimmy Fallon's Late Night show. After doing the professional thing and showing off the minuscule Apple TV and Roku XDS media streamers, Josh proceeded to power up an AR.Drone quadricopter and fly it around the studio in a decidedly menacing fashion. For video of Jimmy's courageous reaction and the fallout from this robot invasion, jump past the break. [Thanks, Sonny]

  • The Sims 3: Late Night Expansion takes your Sim out on the town this fall

Looking for a virtual metropolis in which your Sim can par-tay down? EA just announced the next expansion for The Sims 3, called the "Late Night Expansion." The add-on will include an "active downtown scene" where players can "become a local celebrity, member of a music band, mixologist, director, and more." You can also apparently become a vampire, but if the announcement trailer past the break is any indication, you'll just loiter around a lot of alleys. We imagine it's kinda like being a teenager ... forever. The Sims 3: Late Night Expansion launches this fall. %Gallery-97857%

  • Squeeze keyboardist uses iPad on Fallon appearance

Here's a fun treat for your late night tonight -- one of my favorite bands, Squeeze, made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon's show the other night to play the classic "Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)," and the keyboardist was playing both the electronic ivories and an iPad. He even drops a nice solo in right around 2:32. YouTube commenter MooCowMusic says it's his app, Pianist, and it looks about right. At any rate, it sounds terrific, and how awesome is it that Squeeze is rocking the iPad in a live TV performance? I wonder if they're including the instrument in their other live performances -- or maybe even in actual recording. Very excellent.

Why wait for Cliff Bleszinski to debut Gears of War 3 on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? Here's the trailer for the "worst-kept secret in the video game industry," posted to the Late Night website (and embedded above) ... before it's appeared on television. The trailer is prefaced by some banter with Mister B about his vintage Nintendo Power appearance and what makes a great game. The new game has playable female soldiers in it! Take that, Crackdown 2! Don't worry, it's still jam-packed with men who look like refrigerators and mellow music, like the famous Gears of War trailer (in this case, Sun Kil Moon's "Heron Blue"). Other elements mentioned by Cliff include new weapons and new aliens -- "crazy tentacle monsters" with mutating ability. Bleszinski said GOW3 will arrive "probably around April 8" -- one year after his Late Night appearance was supposed to be shown. Wouldn't that have been nice marketing? Oh, well. Update: Official release date is April 5, 2011. And catch Cliff's Late Night appearance after the break. %Gallery-90396%

Hey, so our main dude Joshua Topolsky just demoed the iPad on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where the audience was wowed by iBooks, Jimmy drove a Mini Cooper into the wall, and the Engadget staff celebrated the return of JT's beard. US-only NBC embeds after the break -- and we'll have a rip viewable internationally in just a few, hold tight. Oh, and obviously we'll have our full review up in the morning -- we promise it's no holds barred. Update: We've added a Viddler version for the international crowd, check it below!

It happened, did you feel it? A shockwave of nerdery so sublime that only a slot on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon could contain it. Josh and Jimmy mixed up a mean stew of gadget gusto last night which you can now watch after the break. It's a two-parter 'cause even the boys in NBC post production couldn't limit our man Toplotsky to a single cut.

  • Conan O' Brien thinks Avatar: The Game was rushed

There's a good reason why we never went into late-night comedy: We really didn't want to compete against lanky comic genius Conan O' Brien. We thought writing about (and, more often than not, making fun of) video games would be a career path where we'd never have to compete with the gargantuan Irish host -- unfortunately, in a recent episode of Late Night, Conan managed to encroach on our territory, making a joke at the expense of the recently released (and tepidly received) Avatar: The Game. Check out the video of Conan's gag after the jump while we consider another career choice -- one that will definitely be devoid of Conan competition. (We're thinking about horse whispering. Seems pretty safe, right?) [Via Kotaku]

Only on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon could the TwitterPeek overshadow Verizon's DROID. Fact of the matter is, it's easier to grasp the idea of a dedicated tweeting device than a Verizon phone touting "open development" as one of its main features. TwitterPeek is available now for $200, a price that includes lifetime service, or $100 for a 6 month subscription. Hit the read link below for details or mosey on through to the other side of the break for the Late Night buffoonery. ** Qlorigan is a trademark of Fallon Corp.

While Joystiq sends bloggers to E3 for teh newz, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon sends Jason Sudeikis for teh lawls, as the latest episode of the late-night program shows. Available to watch right now on Hulu, highlights include Jason's brief stop by the Bayonetta area at Sega's booth, and a rather hilarious exchange with Infinity Ward about Modern Warfare 2. It's quality entertainment, and Sudeikis does a good job of making lighthearted fun of a show that we worked so hard to cover super seriously this week. Enjoy.[Thanks, Wesley!]

Surprise, surprise, late night TV had a show or two that had not yet made the jump to high definition. Thanks to our friends at TV Squad, we've got a video clip from Jimmy Kimmel's first broadcast in 720p (embedded after the break.) We're not sure how we missed this highly anticipated debut (probably because we didn't get an invite), we apologize and promise to do better. The day Carson Daly switches to HD we will be right on it (unless of course he's currently HDTV-ready, in which case we will substitute Chelsea Lately, a show we actually watch.)[Via TV Squad]
