Level four autonomy is the dream of many automakers. A vehicle that drives itself without any driver interaction but has a steering wheel and pedals so that when the human in the car is ready to take control, they can. Daimler wants to put that technology in semi trucks within the next 10 years.

There's a new partnership in the autonomous vehicle game as Ford has announced it will be teaming up with Chinese internet company Baidu to work on autonomous vehicles, with testing set to begin in Beijing by the end of the year. The initiative hopes to achieve SAE L4 (a classification that measures level of human involvement) autonomous standards, meaning that vehicles can run autonomously within specific areas and under the correct weather conditions, within the next two years. And on the roads of Beijing, Ford will be joined by Mercedes-Benz, which too got approval to test cars in the capital city earlier this summer.

Imagine, you're sitting in your autonomous taxi when suddenly the power goes out and the traffic signals in your area no longer function. To keep things moving, traffic officers arrive at the intersection, waving cars through and the vehicles with human drivers move on without too much trouble. But your robot-controlled car stops.

If the Department of Transportation grants GM's latest Safety Petition, the automaker will be able to deploy its no-steering-wheel, pedal-less autonomous car next year. GM has not only revealed what its Level 4 self-driving vehicle will look like -- in a video you can watch after the break -- but also announced that it filed a Safety Petition to be able to deploy its completely driverless version of Chevy Bolt called Cruise AV in 2019. The company describes it as "the first production-ready vehicle built from the start to operate safely on its own, with no driver, steering wheel, pedals or manual controls."

Volvo is adjusting the timeline on its ambitious Drive Me autonomous program until it can find the right sensors. "The development in sensor performance and processor capabilities is going so much faster than we expected in 2013," program director Marcus Rothoff recently told Automotive News Europe. "Because advancements are being made at such a rapid pace, we want to make this decision as late as possible."

Been cruising around in EVE Online and feeling like maybe something was missing? Like, say, nifty cool ships from your favorite movies? Well, obviously someone did, as they got inspired and constructed a can-art Tie Fighter! This EVE Online One Shots was sent in to us by Level4, who told us that the screen just can't capture how really well done this particular piece of can-art was. It certainly would be an interesting thing to come face-to-face with after dropping out of warp! (Note: can-art causes lag and makes the GMs grumpy, so pilot beware.)Do you have an old example of some cool can art you found while flying around? Perhaps you have some really cool screenshots of some Faction battles? We'd love to see some more EVE Online screenshots. Just send them to us at oneshots AT massively.com along with your name and whatever information you want to tell us about what's in the screenshot.%Gallery-9798%
