We weren't too impressed by LG's lightweight Gram laptops when they first launched two years ago, but that didn't deter the company from making more of them. And I'm glad it did, because here at CES 2019, we're getting our first look at the 17-inch LG Gram and I'm kind of amazed at how thin and light it is.

Ahead of CES, laptop makers are hurriedly unveiling the hardware they'll be showing off at the trade show. Yesterday we got the lowdown on Samsung's Surface-challenging Notebook 9 range, and now it's fellow Korean titan LG's turn to talk up its 2018 Gram line-up. As always, the company is emphasizing the portability of the lightweight ultrabooks, which hopefully won't come at the expense of a decent display this time round. The new batch includes a 13.3 inch model weighing in at 2.1 pounds, a 14 inch variant at 2.2 pounds, and a 15.6 version coming in at 2.4 pounds.

One of the most exciting things we saw at CES 2017 was LG's 14-inch Gram laptop, particularly because of its lightweight design (2.3 pounds). Today, the company announced that the device is now available, along with the 13.3 and 15.6-inch versions. Regardless of which screen size you choose, they all feature Intel's 7th-generation Kaby Lake processors and 1080p IPS displays. The cheapest model costs $1,000 and comes with a Core i5 CPU, 8GB RAM and 256GB of built-in storage, but it does lack a touchscreen. You can also get the 14-inch with these specs for $200 more.

It's only been a few months since LG brought its lightweight Gram laptops to the US, but the company's already looking toward the future with a new 15.6-inch model. Up until today, LG had only offered 13- and 14-inch versions, which are sold Stateside through Amazon and Microsoft Stores. Aside from having a larger 1080p display than both of its siblings, the Gram 15Z960 comes with Windows 10, Hi-Fi Sound speakers, 8GB of RAM and either a 256GB or 512GB SSD. Most importantly, it weighs in at a mere 2.16 lbs (980 grams) -- to put that in perspective, the 15-inch MacBook with Retina Display is 4.49 lbs.
