Tidal dropped Lil Wayne's The Free Weezy Album on July 4th, and doing so may cost the streaming service $50 million. According to TMZ, Cash Money Records, Lil Wayne's label, is suing Tidal claiming that it owns the rights to all of the artist's material since he is still under contract. This isn't the first spat between the rapper and the label, as Lil Wayne has been in a battle with Cash Money over the release of his album Tha Carter V. In the lawsuit, Cash Money claims that it has exclusive rights to the music and that Tidal's actions were a "a desperate and illegal attempt to save their struggling streaming service."

While many in the US are relaxing for the July 4th holiday, the folks at Apple Music and Tidal are hard at work trying to push their respective subscription music services. Apple has already announced plans for a Dr. Dre radio show on Beats 1 that will debut Saturday night, after airing shows hosted by artists Q-Tip and Run the Jewels on Friday. Just to add on, Apple Music revealed it nabbed the exclusive for Eminem's "music film" Phenomenal. Not to be outdone, Tidal came through with a surprise exclusive drop of Lil Wayne's new album, FWA, aka the Free Weezy Album. Whether or not those match your personal taste, it's evident both are gunning hard for the current subscription streaming leader, Spotify, to power the playlist at your barbecue this weekend. As far as Spotify and the rest, well, at least they have AC/DC too.

  • Drake vs. Lil Wayne gets the 'Street Fighter' treatment from Capcom

What happens when Capcom signs on to sponsor your upcoming tour? Well, you may be in for a Street Fighter-esque app to bolster the live show. In the DvsLW app for Android and iOS, hip-hop artists Drake and Lil Wayne get help from the crowd during their co-headlining dates starting this week. Developed with a hand from the video game outfit, the mobile software lets you choose between the two stars before tapping a button to "power up," boosting performances in real-time. That's right, concert goers will select their tour date and then influence the results each night. It's worth noting that tour-specific apps (and album-specific offerings, for that matter) are nothing new, but big name acts continue to crank out mobile companions to go along with the trek. • T-Mobile finally getting in on the mobile 3G (or 4G) router craze next March?

Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T have all deployed MiFis (and MiFi equivalents) at this point, leaving T-Mobile as the sole US national carrier to do without a dedicated mobile router -- some sort of device you can throw in your pocket and turn on for those occasions when you need to turn a cellular data signal into a nice little pocket of WiFi. Looks like that's finally changing, though, with TmoNews leaking some shots suggesting that a device codenamed "Lil Wayne" -- yes, Lil Wayne -- will be introduced in March of next year, offering full 21Mbps HSPA+ speeds, followed by a second model in the second quarter of the year. The move makes a whole lot of sense for T-Mobile now that they're offering WiFi tethering on select phone models... and really, shouldn't we be using that shiny, new "4G" network in as many data-intensive ways as possible, anyway?

Celebrity Nerds confirms what you always knew, deep in your heart of hearts: that stars are nerds like us. Send in your own confirmations of this fact right here. Now, we don't have photographic evidence of this one, so Wayne, if you happen to be a reader, feel free to snap a pic of yourself with the console. Either way, we have enough proof to proudly classify Lil' Wayne a... you know, nerd. GTR has published a video of the New Orleans-born rapper having a conversation with KRS-One during which he says he's got an "Xbox that has every game from A-Z, Atari, Nintendo, pong, movies & even porn." Whoa. Where can we get one of those? Wayne claims that the Xbox was a gift... but we bet he hacked it himself. Video is embedded after the break.[Via Joystiq]
