Mists of Pandaria beta: Logging in never sounded so good
The latest patch to the beta servers added something interesting for the dataminers, dug up by the folks over at MMO-Champion -- a piece of music titled Heart of Pandaria v4. For anyone who's been playing World of Warcraft since the original iteration of the game, the first few bars should be easily recognizable as the familiar strains of the original login screen for WoW. And elegantly mixed in and around that familiar tune is a wholly new track for Mists of Pandaria. This suggests this is the track that will play when you're logging into the game, of course. But what I'm wondering is what we're going to see on that login screen? To be perfectly honest, while I liked the screens for Wrath and Cataclysm well enough, I really miss the days in which we were simply presented with the image of a portal to far off and pleasant lands. I'm hoping we'll see something along those lines here. One thing's for certain, though -- it's entirely unlikely we're going to get any kind of dragon, since there doesn't seem to be a plethora of dragons in Mists so far. I highly recommend giving the entire track a listen, as it has a perfectly wonderful buildup throughout. And if I weren't already convinced that buying the Collector's Edition is a good idea for the possibility of a mount, well, the possibility of a soundtrack on top of that is just icing on the cake. It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Patch 4.2 PTR: New login screen temporary?
Animated and roaring Deathwing has been replaced on the PTR with a static image of the Aspect of Death. We do not know if it is the new login screen or if it only temporarily replaces the animated Deathwing-on-Stormwind motif we've grown to love. Why the change? We have no idea. It could be a temporary change while Blizzard works on an issue with the old login screen -- or perhaps it is the end of roaring, animated dragons when you log in to the game. The particular art used is gorgeous, obviously, and it's one of my favorite shots of Deathwing. The reasoning behind the change will most likely come out soon. Tin foil hat speculation puts it anywhere from people's having issues with the login screen and just not loving roaring dragons (even after the toning down of said roaring) to using a new login screen that reflects the next tier of raiding. We don't know! My guess is that we will know soon, however. The news is already rolling out for the upcoming WoW Patch 4.2! Preview the new Firelands raid, marvel at the new legendary staff, and get the inside scoop on new quest hubs -- plus new Tier 12 armor!
Breakfast Topic: Where will you ride out the Cataclysm?

Soon, Deathwing the Destroyer will spring forth from his exile in Deepholm and wreak havoc upon Azeroth. The world (of Warcraft) as we know it will never be the same again. Some locations will be mostly unchanged, while others will be completely unrecognizable. One of the things I'm looking most forward to in Cataclysm is having my characters wake up in the newly changed world and experience that "Holy cow!" moment. When I get home from the midnight opening of my local game store and install the game, I want to log in at the most interesting and significant place I can. I plan on taking some time during that last night to move my characters to certain specific locales. There are many places to choose from. Where will you log out the last time before the expansion? Will you choose a place that will experience a big change, like the bottom of the Shimmering Flats? While it might be fun to wake up underwater -- or will you be floating, or ported to the speed barge? -- there might also be a million other players who had the same idea. You may want a more secluded and original place. Other zones with big changes like Desolace or Blasted Lands might be less crowded and still provide that "whoa" factor.
Battle.Net issues today
Today is a Wednesday, and that means that there has to be some sort of Battle.Net authentication/login/game-version issue today. And guess what? There is!There is a long thread in the support forums about it, and the only blue response so far is that Blizzard is aware of the problem and they're working on it. Many, if not all, Battle.Net users are seeing an error stating the client cannot validate the game version (even after they've patched to 3.1.1).There is no known fix yet. We'll update this post when there is more information to report.Update: According to Neth everything is working now.
