Apple has released iMovie 10.0.04 just in time for editing all the video from your summer adventures. The update doesn't bring any major new features to iMovie, but it does provide improved stability and fixes issues that have previously caused the app to crash in the middle of editing. The company last updated iMovie in April, introducing new features for sorting content, new font options, slight interface changes, and upgraded titles. That upgrade also included a crash fix for the app. You can download iMovie's latest update for free if you've already purchased the program, otherwise it will set you back US$14.99 in the Mac App Store.

Having already done so on the mobile side, Apple kicked off the day by playing favorites over in the Mac App Store, naming the Day One journal its App of the Year. Best game honors, meanwhile, went to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. CameraBag 2 and Splice: Tree of Life managed to snag runner-up distinctions in those respective categories. Other apps singled out as Best of include Tweetbot, Mint, Evernote, Photoshop Lightroom and Pocket, amongst others. Lego Batman 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Lego Harry Potter and BioShock 2, meanwhile, all nabbed spots on the game list. The full list can be found in the source link below.

Yes, it's another store within a store at Amazon, this time a Mac Download Store. While software downloads certainly aren't anything new for the online retailer, the Mac store does actually boast a wider variety of titles than Amazon's Windows download section, including games like Dragon Age: Origins and Civilization V, and applications like Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop Elements. All told, there's more than 250 titles currently available -- not exactly a rival to Apple's own Mac App Store, but a more than respectable start. Of course, no store launch is complete without a sale, and Amazon has kicked things off with two: a free download of Airport Mania, and $5 off your first paid download. Hit up the source link below to check it out.

  • Apple Mac App Store: open for business starting January 6th

Consider the rumors quelled. Despite whispers that Apple would be starting up the Mac App Store in the final year of this decade (or the first of the next, depending on perspective), the Cupertino giant has just affirmed that it'll be 2011 before the general populace gets to dig their hands into it. January 6th is the opening date for the Mac App Store, and unfortunately for those still humming along on OS X 10.5, it'll be a Snow Leopard-only affair. Smack dab in the middle of CES, Apple plans to unleash the store in 90 countries, and it'll feature "paid and free apps in categories like Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity and Utilities." Naturally, it'll be a free update, and it'll work more or less exactly like the App Store does on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. As with those outlets, developers are able to set their own prices and then keep 70 percent of the revenue (provided it's a paid app). So, who's ready to blow a little Santa cash to ring in the new year?
