Borderlands and its DLC now 66% off on Steam
Loot-loving hoarders and packrats, take note: Steam has slashed the price of Gearbox's Borderlands by 66 percent. In addition to the full game, each of the three available DLC packs has also had its price slashed -- the game will set you back $10.19, while each piece of DLC is now only $3.39 each. All together, you're looking at a price of $20.36 during the midweek sale. Our elementary school math teacher would be so proud right now!
Borderlands on Amazon for $37 with free Double Add-on Pack
We've seen this game for super cheap already, but just in case you haven't taken the trip to the Borderlands of Pandora (the other Pandora), now's your chance. Gearbox's excellent loot-and-shoot title is only $36.99 on Amazon right now, and Jeff Bezos and company are throwing in the Double Add-on Pack (with the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Moxxi's Underdome Riot packs) for absolutely free. That's an amazing deal -- like coming across a legendary SG30/V3 Blast Hammer while clearing out the Crimson Fastness again (if you'd bought the game already, you'd know what that felt like). Borderlands 'Double Game Add-on Pack' arrives April 6 in NA, April 9 'internationally;' not coming to PS3
"A two pack?" you ask, confused by today's announcement of the Borderlands DLC retail package. "But doesn't that game have three DLC packs? And aren't there more coming?" Yeah, sure, and you might even have a point! But for now, 2K Games chose to announce the release of The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, together on disc, for $19.99 (starting on April 6 in North America and April 9 everywhere else). More confusing? Apparently the retail pack won't arrive on PS3, though both pieces of content are already available digitally (for the same price, no less) on the PlayStation Network. Yep, we're not really sure what to say either, but we've asked Gearbox and 2K Games for a reason why the pack isn't heading to the PS3 (or if it ever will, for that matter), and if this also be the case with future DLC releases at retail. Borderlands DLC bundled in retail package
We wouldn't blame you if you're hesitant to trust your cold, unfeeling game console with your credit card information -- when that thing inevitably goes sentient, you just know its just going to go on an overpriced accessory-shopping spree. Fortunately, there's other ways to obtain content on the Xbox Live Marketplace; for instance, a recently added GameStop listing has revealed that Borderlands' two DLC packs, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, will soon be bundled together in a retail package for the 360 and PC. The bundle, which is set to drop February 23, will be priced at $19.99, which is how much the DLC would cost if purchased separately on the Marketplace. Only, now you're also paying sales tax, meaning you're buying an expansion pack and paying for a few pages of a public elementary school textbook. How nice of you! Exclusive: Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot gameplay trailer
If more Borderlands DLC is just what the doctor ordered – not Doctor Ned, of course, star of the shooter slash RPG's first DLC outing – then look no further than this week's "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot." Developer Gearbox is giving Joystiq readers an exclusive look at the above gameplay trailer, showing off some of the pack's offerings: three new Riot Mode arenas, the "bank" where you can "'stache your loot" and a litany of modifiers, like "Hot Potato," "Loaded" and "Dodgeball." It's a slow week, folks – "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot" spices things up on Xbox Live tomorrow, and PlayStation Network next week.
Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot intro video is sultry, sadistic
If Mad Moxxi, the star of the upcoming expansion for Borderlands, has any endearing qualities (and we assume she does, seeing as how she's already netted three husbands), they're not present in the opening cinematic of the expansion, posted above. Who would want to settle down with a self-centered, death-dealing vixen like Ms. Moxxi? By the look of her, we're guessing clowns, mimes, and practitioners of other pasty-faced professions. What is present in the trailer is oodles of style, just as we've come to expect from Gearbox's projects. Check out the video above, then read our preview to find out exactly what Mad Moxxi's problem is. (We're guessing it has something to do with her being completely insane.)
Hands-on: Borderlands' Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot
Gearbox's Randy Pitchford made a pretty bold claim when he said that the new Borderlands DLC, "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot," would comprise more than just new levels, but an entirely new mode as well. After an hour or so spent battling it out in Moxxi's tournament, we're happy to report that, though it doesn't feel like a brand new game, it provides a welcome shake-up of the main story's quest-based structure. Read on to see if Mad Moxxi's going to be worth your ten bucks when it arrives on December 28 on Xbox 360 and January 7 on PS3. %Gallery-80032%
Borderlands' second DLC pack: Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot will enrage Mel Gibson fans
click to enlarge The latest item of DLC coming to Borderlands adds new, combat-focused content to the game ... while simultaneously removing any artifice with which Gearbox was obscuring the universe's cinematic inspiration. Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot (get it?) adds three new Riot Mode arenas for single-player or co-op, along with a new bank feature for storing weapons. That's right, a bank. For weapons. That pretty much guarantees you'll pony up the 800 Microsoft Points when this comes out December 29 on Xbox, or the 10 bucks for the PS3 version on January 7. No date or price has been announced for PC. Full press release after the break. Update: In a statement, Gearbox's Randy Pitchford clarified the Riot Mode announcement.
