Watch Jiro dream of sushi with Hulu's latest movie additions
Hulu is building up its fledgling collection of art house movies this weekend with a deal to offer Magnolia Pictures' catalog. The team-up lets both regular and Hulu Plus viewers watch a slew of full-length features that might have slipped under the radar, such as Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall's swords-and-sandals flick Centurion. The near future should bring a host of well-known (if not always popular) titles like Jiro Dreams of Sushi, 13 Assassins and Freakonomics. This isn't a huge expansion of Hulu's library, but it may be just the ticket if you're eager to catch up on more than just TV this weekend.
Gogo Vision teams up with Magnolia Pictures to offer films in-flight before theatrical release
High speed web browsing and airborne streaming make Gogo an essential element of any tech obsessed traveler's itinerary, but the company thinks it can offer a little more. Today the firm announced a deal with Magnolia Pictures that will put select films on its Gogo Vision VOD service before they hit theaters. Starting next month, passengers will be able to rent The Last Days On Mars and Best Man Down for the usual $3.99 fee, the former of which will be available a full month ahead of its theatrical release. While these inaugural films probably won't break any box office records, the influx of fresh, early access content will certainly be a boon for fliers who forgot to bring a book. Sony adds PSP access to PlayStation Network video store, 16 new content partners
Tucked in between the "worst kept secret" PSP Go and motion control demos at its E3 press conference, Sony also revealed new content for the PlayStation Network video service, and the ability to download video directly to the PSP, no PS3 or PC intermediary needed. No word on when to expect the new content exactly, but it will include video from Showtime Networks, Starz, G4 & E!, Summit Entertainment, The Weinstein Company, HDNet & Magnolia Pictures, Anime Network, Media Blasters, Right Stuf's Nozomi Entertainment, Starz Media's Manga Entertainment, Toei Animation, Viz Media, WEP, UFC, TNA and Video Action Sports. Looks like Sony will have easy on the go access to video store content up and running before Microsoft gets its Zune integration act together, but whether that compares to 1080p instant streaming promises remains to be seen (Hint: first one with direct Hulu access wins, we're just saying, guys.)
