Last month, Nintendo released the new DSi XL. So, of course, now it's time to promote ... the original DSi, with a new spring bundle! On April 25, Nintendo will release a bundle containing a white DSi and a copy of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, at a $169.99 price point -- which is what the DSi costs by itself. If you'd like a free copy of Mario & Luigi, we suggest you take advantage of that offer. For whatever reason, Nintendo is no stranger to the "previous hardware bundle." A little over a month after the DSi's North American release, Nintendo offered a lime green DS Lite/Personal Trainer: Cooking bundle. Nintendo UK bundled a DS Lite with the first Professor Layton game, long after the release of the DSi and soon before the release of the second Layton. It's Nintendo -- don't try to understand it, just expect it to make money.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story doesn't put on airs about itself. Up until now, the series has been a collection of chuckle-filled titles, with light action and RPG elements designed to make the game accessible to just about everyone -- and this latest game is no different. It's plain and direct in what it wants to be, but it's set apart from its predecessors in a deepening of the core aspects of the series. %Gallery-33781%

This week, a reader question about Club Nintendo reminded me of the rewards currently available, including the marginally useful, but so pretty Mario Nintendo DS Game Rack. I want one of these, but what would I do with it? Choose eight games to display? I might just get one and use it as a display piece with nothing in it. It can display itself. If you have a question about Mario hat-shaped things or anything else Nintendo related, send it to us by email at asknintendo AT joystiq DOT com.

  • Punch-Out!! coming first half 2009, and more US / Europe Nintendo release dates

Nintendo has dropped a bob-omb of release dates for 2009 (via Videogamer). While mostly vague launch windows -- some of which will still likely be missed -- New Play Control! Pikmin and Mario Tennis will hit Europe February 6 and March 3, respectively, with the US getting both sometime in March. Other notable titles include Pokemon Platinum (March 22 for US, sometime 2009 for Europe) and Punch-Out!! (first half of 2009 for both regions).Additionally, the Big N said Europeans will be able to welcome the DSi into their homes sometime this spring or summer -- not exactly the most narrow window there, and nothing we haven't already heard since president Satoru Iwata said the portable would be launching worldwide by summer 2009. Check out the the full list for Europe and US after the break.

With the February 11 release of Mario & Luigi RPG 3!!!, the sequel so exciting it provides its own exclamation points, rapidly approaching, Nintendo of Japan has launched a series of ads, which should look familiar if you've watched Nintendo ads of any kind in the last few years. They basically consist of a young woman in a well-appointed apartment, reacting with delight to the latest Nintendo game. In this case, a game about two plumbers having adventures inside a giant lizard monster's digestive system. And then that plumber-eating lizard getting into fights with ... rocket-powered castles?Along with these two ads, Nintendo released a nice, long trailer for Alphadream's latest RPG. To make a snap judgment, yay. It's colorful and well-animated, and seems to feature a wide variety of gameplay. Plus, playable Bowser. All three videos are after the break.%Gallery-33393%

  • Mario & Luigi & A Japanese Release Date

February is the month of love and romantic obsessions, and next February is also the month that Mario & Luigi 3 will ship in Japan. Coincidence? WE THINK NOT. AlphaDream's quirky RPG will launch there on February 11th, complete with morbidly obese Toads and (what we guess will be) the usual irreverent dialog. We're no clearer on a North American date, with "2009" still the closest official estimate we have, and that's barely an estimate but a statement of the bleeding obvious. So let's grasp a straw, shall we: previous Mario & Luigi titles came out in the States first, so maybe there's a sliiiiiiight chance that the same will happen in this case, and Nintendo will suddenly spring a January release on us? Sigh, a blogger can dream, right?%Gallery-33393%

Nintendo has revealed its Japanese lineup for the onset of 2009 (via IGN). Unsurprisingly, the list consists largely of games that will likely never see an official release overseas, but a few titles stand out. Mario & Luigi RPG 3 is coming February 11 to DS (no release date yet for other regions), while Castlevania Judgment and Play for Wii Mario Tennis are coming January 15. As previously revealed, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time will be coming to both DS and Wii on January 29.Not listed are the recently unveiled Sin and Punishment 2 and Punch-Out!! for Wii. Looks like we'll be waiting a while before getting our hands on them.

  • Video and screens: Mario and Luigi (and Bowser make) 3

Another of the games shown in video-only form at Nintendo's recent North American media summit, Mario and Luigi 3 (or Mario and Luigi RPG 3, depending on who you ask) is the latest chapter in Intelligent Systems' superb action-RPG series, and the second on DS. This outing adds Bowser as a playable character, and, from what we saw (and you can see in the above video), Mario's long-time nemesis brings some nasty power-moves to the party. It also looks like players will control him solo, rather than throwing him into a three-character combat system. That's okay with us; as long as IS keeps coming up with cool gameplay mechanics using both Mario bros. and crafting a zany story to compliment them, we're there.%Gallery-33781%

As you all well know, Nintendo's fall media summit dropped some serious megatons this week. In the wake of a fairly exciting press conference, the Internet is predictably bustling with skeptics reaching for a reason to be angry with Nintendo's business model. But to be fair, Tuesday's presentation sort of displaces the disappointment of E3. So how should we interpret this onrushing flood of Nintendo news? If you have any idea what this feature is about, you know where we're headed."But wait," we hear you ask, "is it healthy to filter all of our life experiences through a Mario-centric worldview?" And the answer, fair reader, is yes. Perfectly healthy. So let's begin: Aside from the obvious Mario & Luigi 3, how does our Super Bro factor in to Nintendo's recent news? Direct your attention to this week's gallery in which we process all of this hubbub in terms we know best. It's-a Mario World is a weekly feature in which the ubiquity of Nintendo's flagship character is celebrated: We'll incessantly ruminate about mustache wax, debate the curious whereabouts of the princess and covet the luminous power stars strewn about the galaxy. Check back here every Friday to find out what strange and wonderful thing has got us tipping our caps.

The worst bit about big industry events for impatient bloggers and readers? The game assets. Oh Lordy, the assets. An absolute landslide of screens, usually scattered about across, ooh, dozens of pages. But not at DS Fanboy! Not on our watch! Because we wub you, readers, we've collected a big old stack of new screens for your viewing pleasure and placed them all after the break of just one post. This post, in fact. From the well-known to the obscure, we'd be amazed if there's not at least one game that appeals to everyone past that line of blue text. Mario & Luigi 3, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (right), Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel, Shining Force Feather, and Picross 3D is only scratching the surface, so make the jump!

  • Rhythm Heaven, Mario & Luigi 3 vaguely dated for US

Nintendo's fall media event confirmed a US release for the newly-announced Mario & Luigi RPG 3, as if we didn't expect it! The date wasn't specified beyond "2009," leading us to wonder if it will be positioned to coincide with the DSi. Or not. There are plenty of dates in one year for both. Also coming in 2009, specifically the first half: Rhythm Heaven, which has been selling like crazy in Japan. We really shouldn't let all the new hardware and new game announcements and such overshadow what is really important in life -- which is Rhythm Heaven.%Gallery-33393%[screen via Game Watch]

  • New DS games make their Stage Debut

The DSi wasn't the only DS news out of Japan. A video showing Nintendo's upcoming lineup just happens to reveal several upcoming games for the handheld, all published by Nintendo themselves. It makes E3 look like a cruel joke. We've culled the totally new games from the video and listed them here, along with the games that we knew about but haven't seen video of yet. We'll have more info about each of these games when ... it exists! In the meantime, oh man new Mario & Luigi! Wagamama Fashion Girls' Mode: a fashion game from Nintendo! Neat. Aruite Wakaru Seikatsu Rhythm DS: The fitness game with the pedometer. Sekai no Gohan Shaberu! DS O-Ryouri Navi: a sequel to Cooking Guide that is based on recipes from around the world -- we're guessing the exact ones featured in other regions' versions of Cooking Guide. Some kind of fortune telling thing involving tarot and palm reading. Taboo: The Sixth Sense 2K9! Tomodachi Collection, some kind of thing that lets you interact with Miis. This looks like none other than a resurrected Stage Debut! Mario & Luigi RPG 3!!! Made in Wario/Wario Ware, although Wario's name doesn't actually appear in the tentative title. It's, like "Made in Series" or something. But it's clearly Wario. A brutally insane 3D Picross.
