Mass Effect Legendary Edition has arrived, and I’m so thankful that the original Mass Effect got the heaviest overhaul when it comes to gameplay and graphics. This is the definitive way to play the Mass Effect trilogy, even if the first game is still a struggle.

  • Mass Effect creator Casey Hudson leaves BioWare's orbit

Casey Hudson, longtime BioWare employee and executive producer of the Mass Effect series, has departed the company, Studio General Manager Aaryn Flynn revealed on the BioWare Blog. It doesn't sound like Hudson is leaving to join another company or, as is becoming increasingly common these days, forming his own studio, as a letter to his colleagues merely mentions the need to "hit the reset button." "While I feel that the time has come, this is without a doubt the most difficult decision of my career," Hudson wrote. "BioWare is as magical a place today as it was when I started. The projects we are working on are some of the most exciting and prestigious in the world. The talent in our teams is second to none. And the people here are some of my closest friends. I've spent more time with many of you than my own family, and I have enjoyed every day of it." As Hudson moves on to fulfill his own goals, BioWare is moving forward with Dragon Age: Inquisition, a new Mass Effect game, and consistently teasing us with short videos about super-powered teens. We look forward to learning more about all of the above. [Image: BioWare]

  • Chilean retailer lists Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4, Xbox One

Little Timmy Robinson is still waiting for BioWare to respond to his letter asking for a current-gen release of Mass Effect Trilogy, but we know the studio is busy making universes and stuff. Maybe Timmy won't need to wait on BioWare to pipe up, though - Chilean retailer Zmart Games has listed Commander Shepard's trilogy for the PS4 and Xbox One. Release dates and prices are absent from both pages, though customers can sign up to be notified for when the supposed Trilogy port becomes available. Retailers occasionally let the Rachni Queen out of the bag regarding new projects, as was the case with this year's worst-kept secret, The Last Of Us: Remastered. Maybe we should get Little Timmy to write another letter asking for a release window and for the inclusion of DLC absent from Trilogy's original release. They can't say no to a kid, right? • Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4, Xbox One would be so Hanar jelly

"I don't think you're ready for this Hanar jelly." - Beyonce Shepard Dear Bioware, How are you? We are well. We like video games like Mass Effect. Do you like Mass Effect? You should make a trilogy box for PS4 and Xbox One. That would be cool. We saw you talked about it. That's awesome! "We have discussed that internally. If we can put solid plans together we'll share. Great to hear you're keen," said Aaryn Flynn on Twitter. He's the general manager at your studio. Did you know that? We were wondering why it took 82 days to answer, and Stevie T. said it was because you weren't paying attention and we said NO WAY you're just really busy making universes and stuff. Will you write back and let us know about Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4 and Xbox One? You made it for current gen. Just copy and paste the files in the new consoles and turn the graphics up. That would be swell. XOXO, Little Timmy "@Joystiq" Robinson [Image: EA]

What better way to celebrate the annual Mass Effect celebration known as N7 Day than by purchasing a piece of art used in the creation of your favorite virtual space epic? A quick trip to eBay will reveal a signed, original portrait of a Salarian. Not just any alien doodle, this image was created by BioWare artist Matt Rhodes as concept art used in the creation of the overly-logical extraterrestrial race. The current high-bid for the sketch stands at $207.50, with nearly 72 hours left before bidding draws to a close. All proceeds from this auction are earmarked to benefit Child's Play, a charity that helps ease the suffering of sick children by outfitting hospitals with entertaining, therapeutic gaming hardware.

  • Next Mass Effect abandons Shepard, but won't 'feel like a spin-off'

When the next entry in the Mass Effect franchise inevitably arrives, it will feature a brand new story unrelated to Commander Shepard and his or her crew of sexually promiscuous extraterrestrials. Mac Walters, lead writer for the franchise, was asked by Complex where BioWare plans to take the series' plot now that it's been revealed that Commander Shepard is no longer leading things. "... the idea is that we have agreed to tell a story that doesn't relate necessarily to any of the Shepard events at all, whatsoever," replied Walters. "But throughout it all, one of the key things is that it has to be Mass Effect. It can't just feel like a spin-off. It has to feel like a Mass Effect game at its heart, at its core." "Just without the Shepard character or the Shepard-specific companions," added Walters. The writer was then asked for his opinion on fan backlash toward the ending of Mass Effect 3, a response that gave Walters and his colleagues at BioWare a greater appreciation for just how much people care about the pixelated people he writes. "I think that's one of the things we really underestimated, which was how much ownership people would take over a character that they could do that," said Walters. "You know, you've been given free choice to make all these decisions with this character, with the fates of millions of people, and then, you don't get to choose your own fate." "I'm not saying that our decision was wrong or right," said Walters. "I think we just underestimated the impact that would have on certain players."

GameFly has a pretty legit sale going on right now for PC games on Steam and Origin -- deals that, when coupled with this 20-percent off coupon, can lead to some decidedly redonk savings. BioShock Infinite, for instance, can be yours for $28 after using the coupon code. Meanwhile, The Walking Dead, Hitman: Absolution, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Torchlight 2 and Sleeping Dogs are all available for less than $10, and that's before the coupon. Borderlands 2, Mass Effect Trilogy, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and a whole mess of others are in there as well at varyingly steep discounts. This may be the excuse you've been waiting for to finally justify Euro Truck Simulator 2.

The last iteration of the Mass Effect series went on sale one year ago this week, and to celebrate, EA is offering a big sale on all three versions of the game over on Origin. You can grab the original Mass Effect for just $7, the critically acclaimed Mass Effect 2 for $10, or a digital deluxe edition of the third game for $15, all about half off the standard prices. Or if you haven't yet taken a trip aboard the Normandy, the whole trilogy is on sale for only $25, which is less than half what it would usually cost. That's a whole lot of excellent gaming hours, but then again, you'll need something to do while waiting for those SimCity servers, right? [Thanks, Alex]

In response to reports of some PC copies of Black Ops 2 having a second disc for Mass Effect 2, Bioware is giving away Mass Effect Trilogy to those affected. As detailed on its blog, the Mass Effect developer will send free PC codes for the compendium to the first 50 people to send the developer a photo of the error. It's a cheeky yet inspired response from BioWare, the developer calling the mix-up an "omen" it had to take heed of. "If the universe thinks that you should be playing Mass Effect right now," the post reads, "who are we to argue?"Meanwhile, an Activision rep addressed complaints on the official Black Ops 2 forum, saying teams are trying to work out how the mix-up occurred. The post recommends using a product key provided in the case to activate the game on Steam.

The video game community has a growing number of annual holidays lately, including the Steam Summer Sale, Bungie Day, and the annual Desert Bus drive. Now you can add one more note to that calendar, as BioWare is declaring November 7 (today) as "N7 Day," an annual chance to celebrate everything Mass Effect. In addition to yet another multiplayer challenge (with a special banner up for grabs), there are some new behind-the-scenes presentations on the official website and big discounts on all of the N7 gear in the BioWare store. This month marks the fifth anniversary of the original Mass Effect. EA and BioWare are promoting the Mass Effect Trilogy release, which combines all three games and hit stores earlier this week (the PS3 version arrives early next month). Oh, and given how surprised we are that it's been five years since the first Mass Effect game released, N7 Day apparently also celebrates just how super old we feel right now.

Mass Effect Trilogy is coming to the PS3 on December 4 in North America and December 7 in Europe, just in time for the Hanar holiday festivities. Hanars make the best sugar cookies. The new release bundles all three Mass Effect games in one sleek black N7 box. The original Mass Effect, which is playable on Sony's system for the first time, will also be available for download through PSN. BioWare already detailed the DLC available on each platform: The "Bring Down the Sky" mission will be included with Mass Effect on the PS3, whether downloaded through PSN or within the Mass Effect Trilogy. The PC version of Mass Effect will include Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station, while the Xbox 360 version will be just as it originally was when it launched back in 2007, sans that DLC and sky fully intact. PS3, Xbox 360 and PC all get Cerberus Network with Mass Effect 2; however, on the PS3, it'll also include Lair of the Shadow Broker, Kasumi and Overlord. Finally, Mass Effect 3 will include Cerberus Network across all platforms, but not the most recent expansion, "Leviathan." Mass Effect Trilogy will be available next week on the PC and Xbox 360 – November 6 in the US and November 9 in Europe. %Gallery-166617%
