RuneScape hands out summer goodies to subscribers
If you've paid your dues and gone behind the velvet curtain in RuneScape's exclusive VIP club, swag beyond your wildest imagination awaits. Jagex is piling on the incentives for its members, but only if they stay on board from August 1st through September 30th. Players who subscribe to RuneScape for the next two months will find themselves rolling in 350,000 bonus XP per month, an extra daily spin on the Squeal of Fortune, and several cosmetic items including a tropical islander outfit. Jagex is also dangling one of four mysterious "powerful" items as a reward, although the specifics of these items are currently under wraps. The studio also released a behind the scenes video for RuneScape's Gielinor Games. You may watch it after the jump, but only if you've eaten all your vegetables.
RuneScape increasing subscription prices on February 1st
In a new post on the official RuneScape site, the game's vice president Daniel Clough has announced that, beginning in February, RuneScape membership prices will be rising from $5.95 US per month to $7.95 US per month. If you're already a member, don't worry! Anyone who is a registered member prior to February 1st will still be able to subscribe to the game at the current fee of $5.95 US per month, and the rate will not rise as long as the subscription isn't cancelled. So if you were thinking about shelling out for a RuneScape membership, act before the end of the month in order to lock in the current, lower pricing model. RuneScape warms our hearts with subscription deal
Is the frigid winter closing in, encasing your life in ice and gaming frustration? Or, for those of you who live in Florida, do you have to suffer the indignities of wearing a windbreaker when you go outdoors? Jagex is here to help by offering a sunshiny deal on a six-month subscription to RuneScape. Until January 4th, 2012, RuneScape players can sign up for six months of membership for the price of four, which basically gives two free months of premium service. As if that wasn't enough, Jagex is also handing out spiffy reversible ice masks -- with angry and happy sides -- to those who snag this deal. RuneScape's membership starts at $5.95 a month, and upgrades the free-to-play title with additional quests, landscape, minigames, player housing, and no advertisements.
Free Realms introduces T-Rex and flying dragon mounts
Traveling in Free Realms just got a whole lot cooler. Today, the team at Sony Online Entertainment dropped a shiny surprise into the cash shop -- mounts! Currently only available for paying members, these new T-Rex and Dragon mounts come in several different colors for players to pick from. When you consider that SOE treated players to some free Station Cash as part of the recent ConnecDING promotions in EverQuest, EverQuest II, and Free Realms, members may even have part (or all) of their mounts paid for already. (Assuming you haven't spent it, anyway!) In any event, we suspect Free Realms will be full of many dinosaurs and dragons soon -- and perhaps some new members itching to pick up their very own mounts. Motorola quietly takes one step away from LiMo, looks to Android for consolation
Man, remember LiMo? Amazingly, there are some 40 handsets on the market today based on the platform, but precisely none of them are boasting a profile as high as any one of the Android smartphones also on store shelves. As Motorola scrambles to re-make itself and prove that its CLIQ is a force to be reckoned with in the burgeoning Android phone sector, the company has also decided to remove itself as a "founding member" of the LiMo Foundation. The company recently noted that the outfit was sliding down to "associate member," stating that "at this time it feels that the Android platform gives it a richer, more consistent foundation with strong support for the ecosystem and developer community." That's a pretty damning statement to our ears, but we won't go so far as to call the breakup between Moto and LiMo official; we're guessing "it's complicated" would be entirely more appropriate here.[Via phonescoop]

Square Enix opens site for superfans
Can't get enough Square Enix news? We're insulted! But we'll get over it. In the meantime, head over to the about-to-launch Square Enix members site and get pre-registered. The North American version of the fan site (the Japanese version has been around for a while) is set to feature unique content for members, including developer interviews, giveaways, exclusive trailers, and if the Japanese site is any indication, Flash games. Also in the cards? A sprawling online community for Square Enix fans to interact with others who share their passion. The site is open for pre-registration and launches officially March 24.
Frame City Killer killed; RPG to replace it in lineup
If internet reports are to be believed, Frame City Killer has been cancelled, with an unnamed RPG replacing it in Bandai-Namco's roster of upcoming games.We knew that FCK (as it's affectionately known in the gaming community) was having some problems -- with multiple delays stemming from poor graphics and inadequate content -- but most 360 owners expected the game to come out one way or another sometime later this year.If you're a member of the Frame City Underground (the official fan community for the game), a pretty clear announcement in English has already been made.
