Japanese Nintendo downloads: NyxQuest, PooYoos
So, some games are available this week on the Virtual Console, WiiWare, and DSiWare in Japan. Last year's NyxQuest, the Greek-themed platformer, is the star among the Wii releases. As promised, Sunsoft's brought Blaster Master to the Virtual Console -- though we think the impact is somewhat dulled by the quantity of other games available for download this week. There's a total of 11 different games available, so head past the break for the full list.
WRUP: The hot, hot Miami Nights edition
Taking a look over the NPD sales data for December, we cringe at the thought of how much money we plunked down on gaming goods. Heck, we're floored by how much we just spent on ourselves, let alone the gifts of Nintendo we gave to friends and family. So, no new games for us this week: we've got plenty of titles waiting to be picked up off the back burner. Looking over the new releases this week, we can't imagine you all are all enthusiastic about picking one of these new games up (except for Nanostray 2, but we're holding off on that one for a few weeks ourselves). Unless you're some kind of weird person who wants to play Miami Nights: Singles in the City. And, hey, if you are, then that's cool with us. We won't make too much fun at your expense around the watercooler. Mainly, because Joystiq won't give us one.So, what are you playing?
Miami Nights hotter in Europe
"Party in the city where the heat is onAll night on the beach till the break of dawn"Oh, Will Smith, if only we could believe you and your ridiculous ears. Slated for next February, Miami Nights: Singles in the City is the latest mobile-to-DS port from developer Gameloft (Asphalt Urban GT), advertising itself as a "social simulation game" in which you try to make it big in Magic City as a model, singer, or actor. To our surprise, the DS game's graphics actually look worse than the cellphone version, mostly due to the studio's move from 2D sprites to 3D figures. Gameloft isn't the only company to blame for making Miami Nights less inviting -- Ubisoft, the title's publisher in both Europe and the states, also did its part to tone down the game's sex appeal, at least for the US. While Miami Nights' European cover features a blonde woman in a bikini, the North American boxart has the same model covered up, now in a low-cut dress.Is Ubisoft worried about conservative parents revolting over the lubricious image were it to appear on game shelves, right in between Meteos: Disney Magic and My Horse & Me?
