When a beloved friend, family member, hero, or role model dies, we feel the pain of that loss and grieve in many different ways. Part of that grieving and healing process is often entails those left behind constructing some sort of tribute to the dearly departed. Sometimes this comes in the form of a shrine of flowers, sometimes it's the establishment of a charity, and sometimes it's creating an in-game memorial that thousands if not millions of people will see over the course of years. So while death and illness are depressing topics to dwell upon, I find the many MMO tributes that studios and even gamers have erected to be inspiring and a celebration of individual players' lives. With the help of my fellow Massively staffers, I researched 10 wonderful in-game tributes that serve to honor the lives of fellow gamers.

Today we'd like to share with you a memorial that not all that many new World of Warcraft players may have ever seen -- or if they've seen it, they may not know the story behind it. This One Shot comes from Litamay from the Lightbringer server, who popped by to see the Shrine of the Fallen Warrior, which features the only named resurrection angel in-game -- and one that is visible while your character is alive. She writes: [This is an image] of the shrine in the Barrens dedicated to the dev who passed away during development. We've often thought that this was a nice touch to memorialize Michel Koiter's contributions to WoW. We certainly thank him and the rest of the team for bringing such a great game to the rest of us. Do you know of an out-of-the-way place in your favorite game? Perhaps you just know of a great view? Whatever your reasons, grab some screenshots and send them to us here at oneshots@massively.com! Yours could be next!%Gallery-9798%

This shrine (the spirit healer image is visible if you visit the area when dead even when not dead) is located in the Barrens to the west of the Crossroads. The shrine is a tribute to the memory of Michel Koiter, twin brother of René Koiter, both influential Blizzard artists. Ariss of Duskwood sent in this image, saying that there's a bet riding on the picture getting posted -- I never knew "Around Azeroth" was a competitive sport! Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com! You can attach a picture file or send us a link to one -- and don't worry about formatting, we'll take care of that part.
