Activation problems with Might & Magic Heroes 6 have been resolved, according to Ubisoft. Earlier this week, players encountered issues with the game, and many were unable to activate the game, which refused to accept the activation keys given to players upon purchase. "We have fixed the authorization issues for every specific version of the game," Ubisoft notes. "Your content is now unlocked, so please reboot the game in order to apply the modifications." Even with the fixes, those who bought Might & Magic Heroes 6 and the Shades of Darkness expansion on two different digital platforms will be unable to merge the two games. Both games, however, will still be playable via the platform on which they were purchased.

  • Might & Magic Heroes 6 currently unplayable for many [update: Ubisoft responds]

Update: Ubisoft has issued a new response on Facebook, apologizing for the problems users are facing. The post lists possible solutions to some issues, though it seems that those with problems redeeming keys or with inaccessible content will have to wait. Ubisoft is preforming maintenance today to reauthorize players and "gradually set everything back to normal." Many Steam and Ubisoft customers are complaining that Heroes of Might & Magic 6 has become unplayable since the release of its recent expansion, Shades of Darkness, and the 2.1 patch that accompanied it. The issue seems to center around Ubisoft's Uplay service, which refuses to accept the download codes issued to customers after they buy the game. Users are saying that the problem arises after downloading the game and activating their key within Uplay. Upon booting the game, the in-game store page asks for the same key. If the key is entered again, the game produces an error message that the key has already been redeemed. After this, players have access to the Heroes 6 expansions, but are unable to play the main campaign (it's grayed out in the menu). For its part, Ubisoft has acknowledged the issue on its own forums, assuring users that their keys are "not broken and will be fixed as soon as possible." The company is also recommending a workaround discovered by forum user ElektroDragon, which involves manually downloading and installing the patch instead of allowing the game to do it automatically. Meanwhile, Steam users have started a petition against Ubisoft, specifically its use of 3rd party DRM via Uplay. The publisher has a rocky history with its PC games, often releasing them long after their console counterparts and saddling them with restrictive DRM. Earlier this year, Ubisoft's Uplay director, Stephanie Perotti, said that the company is working to improve its relationship with the PC community. We've contacted Ubisoft regarding this latest issue and will update this story if we hear anything new. Update: The specifics of the problem have been clarified. While we understand our bodies' natural inclination to produce both tears and blood during times of emotional duress and physical injury, we'd hate to have to be forced to choose between the two. If the question is more metaphorical however, as is the case in this new Might & Magic Heroes VI trailer, we think we'd have to go with blood, since they appear to be the side with glowing magma creatures. You know, now that we think about it, we'd always take blood over tears, especially in literal situations.

Those eager to overthrow evil in a polite, turn-based manner will have to wait a bit longer before diving into Might & Magic Heroes VI. Posting on the game's official forums, Community Developer Irina Kassina has announced another delay for the role-playing strategy hybrid, this time lasting until October 13. Kassina explained that player feedback gathered during the beta, specifically relating to bugs and game balancing, highlighted the need for more development time. "Thus, we took the decision to delay the release of Might & Magic Heroes VI in order to secure a bit more time for the dev team to take into account your comments and deliver the best quality game," she wrote. The beta will begin a second phase with additional single- and multiplayer maps on August 16. If you've won a key through a community contest or pre-ordered the game, you'll be granted access to the latest round of testing. And just think of the power you'll have over us! Your glitch-detecting prowess could determine whether or not we write another post about this game being delayed.

Sure, said assassins, rabbids, and future soldiers will arrive in video game form, but there's at least an air of danger in Ubisoft's Gamescom lineup. The French publisher revealed its German cavalry this week, saying that all titles will be available either in hands-on versions or hands-off presentations. From Dust (released on consoles thus far), Far Cry 3, Might & Magic Heroes VI, and Rayman Origins will be on site. Ubi will also hold a roundtable discussion titled, "Is Online Gaming Changing How We Create?" and featuring "creative leaders from Ubisoft's online teams. It'll be open to press, Ubisoft partners and the show's trade visitors. It's not necessarily bad news for you, Joe Public. While we're busy watching the roundtable, you could be jamming on some Anno 2070!

For die-hard fans of Ubisoft's major franchises, the company offers a new way to own physical totems of those fandoms. It just launched a line of exclusive "UbiCollectibles" available exclusively through its online shop (and, at the moment, exclusively in Europe). For those of us outside of Europe who get redirected out of that region's online shop, Ubiworkshop posted images of two of the first offerings: an Assassin's Creed Brotherhood "Ezio's Fury" statue, limited to 2,000 units, that depicts Ezio furiously skipping on some broken columns, and a statue of Might & Magic Heroes VI's Archangel Michael, limited to 500. The shop will also sell Ghost Recon "Production Team" t-shirts, as seen on ... the Ghost Recon production team at E3.%Gallery-127589%

It looks like there just isn't enough might or magic to help Might and Magic Heroes 6 make its June 21 launch date. A Ubisoft forum manager broke the news on the Might and Magic Heroes 6 forum, noting that the date has been pushed to September 8. No reason was given for the delay, so we're just going to assume that orcs did it.

The first developer diary for Might and Magic Heroes 6 has been released, shedding light on the game's Stronghold faction. Or, if you prefer the shorthand: Orcs. There's a lot of backstory in the video, so allow us to sum up. Orcs are big, strong, angry and ugly. Yeah, we know, pretty shocking.

Ubisoft has released a few screens showing off the Stronghold faction in the upcoming Might & Magic Heroes 6 from Black Hole Entertainment. Traditionally in the long-running fantasy strategy series, the "Stronghold" town is a wild group of degenerate races that embraces the "Might" side of the equation rather than the Magic side, and in H6, the tale is no different. Goblins, Harpies and Maulers make up the Stronghold's forces, usually preferring melee or brute force to the more arcane arts. As you can see from the screenshots, Stronghold troops are rough and tribal -- perfect for smashing some smarmy Mage's head in with a spiky club. There are a few pieces of concept art on the game's Facebook page to check out as well. M&MH6 is due out sometime next year.%Gallery-111547%

Ubisoft has announced that the sixth installment of the Heroes of Might & Magic franchise -- somewhat awkwardly titled Might & Magic Heroes 6 -- will be headed to PC next year. The game is being developed by Black Hole Entertainment, most recently known for Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and its expansion Battle March, and will feature turn-based gameplay mixed with RPG elements. It takes place 400 years before the events of Heroes of Might & Magic 5 (released in 2006) and revolves around "a family of heroes in a thrilling, epic story where Angels plot to revive an unfinished war."
