The big draw is a single-player quest starring Artemis — the character that Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil) is playing in the live-action movie.

Resident Evil film franchise star Milla Jovovich has had to unexpectedly curb stomp production on the latest movie due to a creature growing inside her. Jovovich posted on her Facebook page that she and director-husband, Paul WS Anderson, are expecting their second child. "This was originally going to be a post to tell you how excited I am about flying to Cape Town to begin working on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," wrote Jovovich on her Facebook page, who plans to return to work after the baby is born. "Between the stunt work and what will become my ever-expanding belly, we didn't think pregnancy and zombie killing are the best combo! I imagine the only thing I'll be killing in the near future is an endless supply of cupcakes." Production is expected to resume next summer, with a 2016 release planned. There are a pair of new TV spots for Resident Evil: Retribution 3D today, the fifth entry in Paul W.S. Anderson's series starring his wife, Milla Jovovich. But rather than snicker at what is sure to be a cheesy flick, we'd much rather play Spot the Cameos™ for the new recruits. There's Barry! Hey, look, Michelle Rodriguez!

If you're anxiously awaiting the next Paul W.S. Anderson Resident Evil joint, we've got to ask: "Why?" We can't imagine anyone is dying to see another one of these trainwrecks (in 3D again, no less!), but if you are, some new details on Bloody Disgusting may interest you. Milla Jovovich will reprise her role as Alice in the next film, which now has an official title: Resident Evil: Retribution. Her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, will once again direct. Resident Evil: Retribution currently has a tentative release date of September 14, 2012. Sienna Guillory, who played Jill Valentine in the second film (and made an appearance in the last movie), will return, she has said on Twitter -- though BD says that role is being recast. Also, according to BD, Barry Burton and Leon S. Kennedy will both make appearances in Retribution. Filming for Resident Evil: Retribution will begin in October.

Paul W.S. Anderson's latest installment in the Resident Evil film franchise, subtitled Afterlife (or in most technologically-endowed theaters, Afterlife 3D), took home top honors in last weekend's box office ranking. What does this mean? Well, it means we're angry at a lot of America for not going to see Machete -- but, according to lead actress Milla Jovovich, it also means we can expect to see yet another movie chronicling Alice's beef with the Umbrella Corporation. "This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide," Jovovich recently told New York magazine. "It's the biggest movie in the franchise. So we're definitely going to make another one." She goes on to ask that fans of the series send suggestions for the next film to her Twitter page, which also contains much needed, step-by-step instructions on how to properly pronounce her name. Thanks, Milla!

  • Rumor: Sony plans to follow Resident Evil: Afterlife with reboot Resident Evil: Begins

According to BloodyDisgusting, Sony already has plans for a fifth film following 2010's Afterlife -- which jibes with what we heard back at Comic-Con. However, instead of signing on Jovovich to reprise her role as Alice for films beyond Afterlife, the studio is supposedly planning to reboot the franchise and go back to the beginning of it all. The fifth film is tentatively titled Resident Evil: Begins, and would apparently follow Bruce Wayne's ascent as Batman, guardian of Gotham City a special military unit that battles a super computer within a complex chock full of the undead. So it'll basically be the first movie again. [Via Kotaku]

Anyone who's seen one of the live-action films based on Capcom's Resident Evil franchise are aware of how in-your-face the movies' terribleness tends to be. However, horror film news site Shock 'Til You Drop recently got a terrifying piece of news from producer Paul W.S. Anderson at San Diego Comic Con -- the next film in the series, titled Resident Evil: Afterlife, will be presented in 3D. We're thrilled about the stereoscopic Jovovichian action -- we're somewhat less enthusiastic about the bump in ticket prices that'll come about to provide the necessary eyewear.Anderson went on to explain the film would kick off an entirely new trilogy of Resident Evil films, saying he regards it "as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise." We know what you're thinking -- does this mean the films will finally remotely follow the plot of the games? Oh, don't be silly. It's Anderson, man.[Via VideoGamer]

According to Shock Till You Drop, the Resident Evil movies are getting a fourth installment in Resident Evil: Afterlife. A supposed internal memo at Sony Pictures seems to point to a September 17, 2010 release. Of course, this isn't the first time we've heard about a fourth Resident Evil movie, so we're considering this rumor fairly credible.Do we really want another Resident Evil movie, though? Hasn't Milla Jovovich beaten up enough zombified dogs and dudes in rubber suits?[Via Coming Soon]

  • Some details scared up on next Resident Evil movie

If the sweeping epic of Resident Evil: Extinction had you chomping at the neck for another installment, JoBlo.com has some details from a "very reliable source" about the fourth film in the franchise. Auteur Paul (insert consonants here) Anderson has written the screenplay, but won't direct. The screenplay is more like RE2 (the film), but with, ahem ... "better dialogue." There's speculation that they may need to bring in a martial arts choreographer for all the hand-to-hand combat. Finally, Extinction's creature effects guy is back, with Jurassic Park 3's special FX supervisor coming on board.Once Milla Jovovich commits to playing Project Alice again, the producers will look for a director. Filming will take place in Tokyo and Toronto, with the Canadian capital (it's not? well, it should be) filling in for Alaska. For those not following the movies, Alaska may be the last refuge for survivors. How do we know so much about Extinction? Don't blame us, it's available for free on X360's Netflix.[Thanks, Hashbrown Hunter]

  • Third Resident Evil film to be buried in desert

And in our wildest dreams, it would be right next to those E.T. The Extra Terrestrial cartridges. Too bad you can't win them all. Or even one, in the case of non-sir Paul W. Anderson. He's the man writing the script (if that's what we call randomly flinging words at a blank page) for Resident Evil Colon Extinction, the third film adaptation of Capcom's survival horror series. Previously, he directed the first Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat (hey, that wasn't so bad!) and Predator castration epic, Alien vs. Predator. Speaking at a recent Hollywood and Video Games summit, in Beverly Hills Mr. Anderson outlined his original vision for the shambling corpse of a trilogy. The first film would act as a prequel to the game, the second as an intersecting companion and third as a post script.Interestingly enough, the third film just happens to be set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, which is either a tired narrative device or some sort of meta-commentary on the series itself. The world's been overrun with undead fellows and the only survivors, which include Milla Jovovich's Alice, Jill Valentine and Code Veronica escapee Claire Redfield, must make a run for it in armored convoys. "So that's where the movie takes place, primarily in the deserts of Nevada and around Las Vegas. But of course, it's a Las Vegas that has kind of fallen now, because what's happened is, with no one to take care of it, the desert has come back in and half-buried Vegas. So... we built all these casinos which are sort of buried in the sand." We'll take a gamble and hold out some vague hope that this will pull a Resident Evil 4 and make the series sparkle.Or not. This Hollywood machine is rigged.[Thanks Killer_Twinkie!]
