Netflix is working on a 'Stranger Things' mobile RPG
Netflix made it clear last month when it announced its E3 panel that its gaming ambitions extend beyond Stranger Things 3: The Game (and the Dark Crystal tie-in that was revealed this week). At the panel, it revealed what's next: more Stranger Things. Netflix is teaming up with Helsinki developer Next Games (The Walking Dead: Our World) for a mobile RPG/puzzle game based on the series.
'Elite Squad' pulls together a Tom Clancy dream team on mobile
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint wasn't the only Tom Clancy-related game Ubisoft showcased at its E3 event. It revealed the trailer for Tom Clancy's Elite Squad, a mobile RPG that pulls together characters from Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, The Division and Splinter Cell to form a spec-ops dream team.

After years of being confined to computers, Old School Runescape has finally made it to mobile. More than a full year after developer Jagex promised the port, the throwback version of the wildly popular MMORPG is now available to play on iOS and Android devices.
'The Walking Dead' mobile game will keep pace with the TV show
The Walking Dead: Our World is a mobile game that plunges you into the zombie-filled world of its televised namesake. As season nine of the AMC TV show premieres, the publisher has announced that the game will offer new missions that correspond to each new episode. From Monday October 8th, and every subsequent Monday, the game will add themed jaunts based on what transpired on AMC the night before.
The new 'Walking Dead' mobile game won’t topple 'Pokémon Go'
I don't like The Walking Dead, or zombie-related content, more generally, but I'm a sucker for a location-based mobile game like Pokémon Go and Silent Streets. Next Games' The Walking Dead: Our World uses Google Maps to turn your local area into a hostile, zombified environment, and I just had to give it a try. Sadly, after a couple of hours dipping in and out of the game, I'm not sure I want to spend a lot of time fighting the undead.
HQ Trivia is hosting a special game with 'The Voice'
HQ Trivia's game on Monday night will give you the chance to earn and withdraw more than a couple of bucks in earnings. The hit mobile game will give away $50,000 that evening -- and a trip for two to LA to see The Voice's live finale on May 21st. HQ Trivia has teamed up with the singing competition in what NBC describes as a "first-of-its-kind partnership."
You can see your friends' HQ Trivia answers, but only on Fridays
Now that hit mobile game HQ has become more social, the company is reportedly planning to let you see your friends' answers on Fridays. TechCrunch says the feature has been in testing for a while, now, and will roll out to all HQ players this week.
Of course there's retro-inspired 'Stranger Things' mobile game
Netflix has flirted with simple games starring its most popular original series, but its latest stab at interactive promo goes a little deeper. The streaming juggernaut tapped developer BonusXP to make a full-on mobile game for Stranger Things. And as you might expect, it's is about as retro as possible, aping classics of yore like River City Ransom and the NES' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for inspiration. All that to say, it's a bit more complicated than Netflix Infinite Runner from January. You can do sweet jumps on your bicycle as one of the kids and explore the Upside Down as Hawkins police chief Jim Hopper, for example.
Sequel to 'Final Fantasy' creator's free-to-play game launches today
Final Fantasy creator Hironubu Sakaguchi has had some good success with his action-RPG-puzzle mobile game, Terra Battle. The free-to-play sequel — Terra Battle 2 — is out on both iOS and Android, but if you want to play it, you'll need to wait until 11:00 PM PT on September 20th, according to the in-game message you'll get when launching the app.
A 'South Park' mobile game is coming this year
If you're bored with Pokémon Go and happen to be a fan of Comedy Central's animated misfits, you'll soon be in luck. Ubisoft's RedLynx teamed up with South Park Digital Studios for South Park: Phone Destroyer, a free-to-play mobile game that's set to arrive on Android and iOS later this year. Ubisoft says the game is designed so nothing is blocked behind a paywall and every part of the game is available to everyone -- whether they choose to spend money or not.
'Skullgirls' heads to iOS and Android this spring
Popular fighting game Skullgirls has been released on almost every other modern platform; now it's time to play it on your smartphone. Originally teased last July, the free-to-play version of this fan-favorite title is slated to arrive in Spring 2017 for both iOS and Android devices.
The sequel to 'Alto's Adventure' is an 'Odyssey'
Built By Snowman has a busy year ahead of it. In addition to the recently announced Distant, the studio is also working on a sequel to its ultra-soothing endless-snowboarding game Alto's Adventure. Alto's Odyssey will be out sometime in 2017 but aside from that there aren't any details of what to expect.
'Pokémon Go' might soon add Ditto and generation 2 monsters
If catch and daily bonuses aren't enough to lure you back into playing Pokémon Go, maybe new monsters are. The SilphRoad has dissected newly added codes in the game's files and found references to shapeshifting Ditto and 100 Generation 2 monsters, from #152 Chikorita to #251 Celebi. Ditto has been in the game's codes for a while, but the team discovered a new "Transform" move meant for the critter with its own animation sequence. As you might know, Ditto is known for turning into the Pokémon it's battling in addition to its ability to breed with any monster.
African mobile game rewarded its top players with a real cow
What did your favorite mobile game give you the last time you topped its leaderboard? In Tunisia, the developers of a game called Bagra, which translates to "cow," gave its top players a real, living bovine. To win, the couple had to be better than everyone else in a game of keeping a digital herd of cows safe while stealing from others.
Cracker Jack ditches toys in favor of augmented reality
Ah yes, Cracker Jack. The classic American snack food and ballpark staple that offers the thrill of finding a cheap plastic toy at the bottom of the box. Well, I should say offered, since PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division is modernizing snacking by nixing the toy in favor of a "baseball-inspired mobile digital experience." What does that mean exactly? Rather than unwrapping a plastic figurine or trinket, you'll find a sticker that you scan with your phone's camera to "bring the ballpark to life" with a mobile game or photo treatment. Oh yeah, you'll have to download the Blippar augmented reality app first.
Taylor Swift is getting her own mobile game
The company that's famous for making Kim Kardashian: Hollywood has announced that it's making a mobile game inspired by Taylor Swift. Glu Mobile has revealed that it'll craft a title based around the singer's life that's expected to arrive for iOS and Android by the end of 2016. The firm has something of a thing for celebrity-endorsed mobile titles, previously producing games with Jason Statham and... uh... Katy Perry. According to BuzzFeed, the Perry game was such a flop that Glu was forced to turn its attentions towards another global pop sensation.
Roland taps iconic 808 sounds for rhythm-based gaming
Roland revived the iconic sounds of the TR-808 with last year's AIRA TR-8, and now its leveraging those tones for mobile gaming. With TR-REC, the audio company uses sounds from both the TR-808 and TR-8, as players recreate rhythms played by the app. As the game moves on, tones are layered on top of the original rhythm to create a piece of dance music. In order to progress to the next stage, you must correctly tap out the sequence before time runs out. If that sounds too intimidating, don't worry: the game starts with the basics. You can think of it like Guitar Hero, but for a drum machine.
Ion iCade Mobile and iCade Core review
The iCade Arcade Cabinet famously began life as an April Fool's joke, pulling the video game equivalent of Pinocchio by transforming in a real salable product. The $100 arcade machine-shaped iPad enclosure / controller hit the sweet spot between functionality and retro gaming nostalgia, proving successful enough that Ion found itself with a solid reason to expand the line. Notable amongst the new arrivals are the iCade Core, which offers up the same feature set as the original iCade in a more portable joystick form, and the iCade Mobile, a re-imagining of the product as an oversized iPhone case. The Core carries the same price tag as its predecessor, while the Mobile clocks in at $20 less. So, are these additions worthy of the iCade name? Or would the line have been better served as a one-off? Insert a coin and find out after the break. Update: Unfortunately, we were provided with incorrect information ahead of the review -- the iCade Core is actually priced at $80, same as the iCade Mobile.
