‘Modern Warfare Remastered’ hits Xbox and PC as a standalone title
It's no secret that including the remastered version of the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare helped sell copies of the latest in the series, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Unfortunately, you could only get the revival in an $80 bundle with the new game -- until Activision bowed to demand and planned a standalone version of the remastered 2007 classic, which came out exclusively for PS4 last month. After a grace period, the game is now out on Steam, and Xbox One for $40.
‘Modern Warfare Remastered’ heads to PS4 without the bundle
If you were disappointed that you had to keep the $80 disc for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in your gaming rig to be able to play the better-reviewed Modern Warfare remaster, you're in luck. Publisher Activision has announced that it will reverse the classic bait and switch tactic it employed with Infinite Warfare by putting out Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone title on June 27th. Of course, it's not all straightforward, as the title will only be available for PS4 as a disc or digital download (at first). We've reached out to Activision for more specific information on other platform release dates.
'Modern Warfare Remastered' adds female soldiers, microtransactions
If you thought that Modern Warfare Remastered would've been forgotten immediately after it was released, think again. The game's latest free update brings seven classic maps into the fold (Bloc, Countdown, Pipeline, Showdown, Strike, Wet Work) and the winter-themed, previously PC-only Winter Crash, according to the Activision blog. More than that, the "Operation Arctic Wolf" loot drop adds female soldiers to the mix -- a first for the Modern Warfare franchise. Why those aren't available as default options now is anyone's guess, though.
Windows Store 'CoD' buyers can't play with Steam friends
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered have come to the Windows 10 Store, but you may want to think twice about buying the games there. According to Activision, those versions don't support console cross-play, and won't even work with versions on other PC platforms like Steam. In other words, you'll only be able to play with other Windows 10 Store buyers and not the millions of players who bought the game elsewhere. They aren't part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program either, meaning you'll be stuck with the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version on Windows 10.

Folks are salivating at the thought of playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, but the new game it comes with? Not so much. But if you purchased the disc-based version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in the hope of playing Remastered and slinging the newer title back to Gamestop, we've got some bad news. Activision has mandated that you can't relive the adventures of Soap and Price unless the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare disc is sat in your console and your internet connection is live. Bummer.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare brings the war (and the fare) to space, and it's taking Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington and UFC fighter Conor McGregor along for the ride. Unfortunately, Activision and Infinity Ward didn't take this opportunity to make the world's best buddy-cop action-comedy game. Instead, Harington plays the evil Admiral Salen Kotch of the Settlement Defense Front and McGregor is his muscle, Captain Bradley Fillion. They're a pair of bad dudes in space suits and in the story campaign, it's your job to take them down.
PS4 players can get 'Modern Warfare Remastered' a month early
We've known the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare title would come bundled with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered for a few weeks now. However, at this week's E3, Sony and Activision clarified just how the availability of the reboot will go down. If you pre-purchase Infinite Warfare bundle that includes Modern Warfare Remastered for PS4, you'll receive that latter game a month before the duo is officially released on November 4th. Those packages range from $80 to $120 and the pre-release of Remastered will only feature the campaign. Those 10 multiplayer maps will remain under wraps until the first week of November.
