The PlayStation Store had some noteworthy releases in February: Explodemon, Stacking, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. But none of these new releases managed to chart in PSN's monthly sales numbers. Instead, you'll see some familiar names on the top 5 list, including Angry Birds, which continues its second month of bestselling sales. Angry Birds Plants vs. Zombies Tetris Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Mortal Kombat II In addition to Angry Birds, the appearance of a PopCap game, a Tetris game, and a Pac-Man game tell us that casual games are key to making your way to the top of the PlayStation Network.

Mortal Kombat II inexplicably fell to the bottom of The Pit a few days ago, disappearing completely from PSN and from download lists of those who have purchased the game. At least it appears your suffering is finite: Sony tells 1UP that it's "working diligently" to get the game back up on the service. So what's the problem? Sony says "A Mortal Kombat II specification is being upgraded in connection with the release of the latest firmware update." If you don't speak public relations, that's code for, "We have absolutely no idea what happened."

There's mystery afoot, dear gumshoes! One of the best-selling titles on the PSN (not to mention one of the best arcade fighters ever), Mortal Kombat II, has reportedly disappeared from the American PlayStation Store -- and from the download list of those who have already purchased the toasty title. No official word has come from Sony or Midway about the disappearance, though some potential kombatants who contacted customer service were informed that the disappearance is probably due to a glitch caused by firmware update 2.50. With a little under a month before the release of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, this "Case of the Missing Brawler" really couldn't have come at a more inconvenient time.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Sony has announced that tonight they are releasing the SOE remake of the arcade classic, Rampage World Tour, through the North American PLAYSTATION Store. Priced at the standard rate of a mere $4.99, the downloadable title allows you to play as any of the three classic Rampage characters as you tear down skyscapers and generally terrorize the city. The game also offers multiplayer action for up to three people, online or local - no word on if it supports voice chat though.I'm pretty stoked about this title myself. I liked Mortal Kombat II a lot, but Gauntlet II was kind of lacking in the fun department. Rampage looks solid though, graphics held up surprisingly well and something about the simple, destructive nature of the gameplay of the original always entertained me.[Via Press Release]

Oh yeah! This brings back the old-school memories. Button mashing never got any better than Mortal Kombat II, and now you can experience it all over again on your PS3 this week. From the press release:"Get ready to re-live all of the classic arcade action that made Mortal Kombat II a beloved classic. Brought back and available for download exclusively on the PS3, re-experience the classic head-to-head fighting game featuring classic characters such as Sub-Zero or Goro. Players will fight their way through the Outworld and defeat Shang Tsung or battle hidden characters including Jade and Smoke!"Ten new levels, online multiplayer and smack-talk inducing leaderboards will likely make this the best $5 you've spent in a long, long time. Get ready to download it on the PLAYSTATION Store this Thursday. And try not to break your SIXAXIS ... that thing is not made for prolonged thumb attacks.
