When Marvel Heroes launches on June 4th, it will begin a super story that finds Doctor Doom wielding a fair share of power. But what about the story behind that story? To reveal just how Doctor Doom rose to power, Gazillion is releasing a short series of motion comics entitled "Chronicles of Doom." Penned by Brian Michael Bendis, well-known for his work creating the Ultimate Marvel Universe, the adventure begins with the villain infiltrating the sanctuary of the Fantastic Four. Watch the first installment of the four-part series after the break. [Source: Gazillion Entertainment press release]

The adventure of the Blacklight team comes to an end today with the last motion comic setting the stage for Blacklight: Retribution's major patch World's End. And after facing no small number of enemy troops and zombified locals, the group finally arrives at its designated target to find something very different from what it had originally planned. Remember, if there's one thing worse than failure, it's the success you never knew you didn't want. This final video brings the story full circle and explains more of what's out there... but what happens next is up to the players -- unsurprisingly, since this is meant to provide backstory for a game and all. So if you've been following along for the last few installments, you'll want to catch the last one just past the break, and then probably load up your weapon and get to shooting in the game proper.

As it turns out, moving through the heart of darkness is no easier in Blacklight: Retribution than in the real world. As the motion comic previewing the game's major patch World's End nears its climax, it turns out that yesterday's zombie-filled antics and general civil unrest were not the worst problem that Spade and his team will have to encounter. After all, the Order is still out there, and it turns out they're no slouches in battle... The second-to-last installment is a little longer than its predecessors, moving the protagonists from their perpetual quagmire to the doorstep of their ultimate objective, but not without taking a few more lumps on the way there. So how do we get from here to the intro we saw back in the beginning of the week? To find that out, you'll just have to check back in tomorrow for the concluding episode.

We're not usually excited to be writing about motion comics when there are actual, you know, games out there, but Mass Effect 2: Genesis is a little more interesting than the usual offering. In this BioWare/Dark Horse collabo, you can relive some of the key decisions from Mass Effect (assuming you haven't played it) and then apply those choices to Mass Effect 2. Keep in mind that this $4 (320 MSP) download, which served to introduce PS3 players to the universe of Mass Effect, functions as a game add-on. That means you'll need Mass Effect 2 -- but we assume you've already taken care of that part. [Thanks, Lafu]

Sometimes you can't decide whether to read a comic or watch a cartoon. For those times, there are motion comics, which are almost both. Capcom has revealed a new Street Fighter motion comic, Eagle One Media's Street Fighter: The New Challengers, coming to DVD on August 2. The summary text mentions separate storylines for Cammy, Chun-Li and Ken, along with appearances by Guile, Fei-Long, Sakura, Gen, Balrog, Blanka and Vega -- which seems like rather a lot of ground to cover in 90 minutes. A clip is available after the break. If you order the $20 DVD from Eagle One, you'll get a figurine; for $10 more, you can add a Ryu T-shirt to the package. Warning: XL only.

The next project from Ubisoft's non-traditional development branch UbiWorkshop has been slightly unveiled: A brief teaser trailer posted after the jump seems to preview a motion comic titled Assassin's Creed Ascendance. At least, we're assuming it's a motion comic -- a post on the UbiWorkshop site confirms that it's not a game, and, as far as we know, images in standard books and graphic novels don't ... um, move. UbiWorkshop promises that more details about Ascendance will drop "really, really soon." We'll let you know once the true identity of the project is announced, though we stand entirely by our assertion that it will not be a book with moving images, because those definitely haven't been invented yet.

  • EA teases Command & Conquer motion comic

Those of you who guessed "comic book" along with us when the Command & Conquer team hinted that their universe was headed to a "new medium" were still stuck in the past of 2009 -- here in 2010, comics move like video, and they're called "motion comics." Geez, get with the decade! EA's posted a teaser trailer for the C&C "motion comic," created in conjunction with Ape Entertainment, and almost literally, all it says is that Episode 1 is coming soon. There's also a guy in a truck who wants to know the same thing we do: What he's doing here. Oh yeah, and can we know where "here," is, too, and what this has to do with the game? You can head after the break to watch the entire teaser for yourself. Just be sure not to blink. [via Big Download]

Ever wonder how Uncharted protagonist Nathan Drake got so darn pithy? Curious how he developed his Spider-Man-like acrobatic finesse? Want to know how he met up with his cigar-chomping partner in crime, Victor Sullivan? All these questions and more will (probably) be answered in the next piece of Uncharted errata coming from developer Naughty Dog: A motion comic set before the events of the first game, titled Uncharted: Eye of Indra. The project was announced during yesterday's PlayStation.Blog live chat with Naughty Dog's Travis McIntosh and Neil Druckmann. According to them, the motion comic will be voiced by many of the actors from the game series, and focuses on "a prequel story that we eventually cut" from Uncharted 2. We hope the story reaches back far enough to show when Nate's mother taught him how to dress himself in such a slapdash manner.

Can't wait to see Watchmen when it comes out March 6? Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic is set to hit shelves on DVD and Blu-ray three days earlier and will include a sneak peek of the "Prison Break" scene from the motion picture. C'mon, after obsessively reading and re-reading the graphic novel and watching and re-watching every trailer you're going to let a mere $34.99 MSRP keep you from a high quality early preview of the movie? That the Motion Comic is included on the disc is probably just an added bonus to some.
