In good guy news, EA Sports is putting up $500,000 worth of in-game advertising for Movember, free of charge. You may have already spotted the ads, which will run this month, in the latest iterations of FIFA, Madden, and NHL.Movember's been going for several years now, but in case you're yet to link it to the surge of facial hair above November lips, the charity's website can fill you in. In short, dudes grow their mustaches out across the month, all in the name of raising money for men's health charities like the Prostate Cancer and LiveStrong foundations. While this is excellent of EA Sports, we're a little disappointed to not hear of EA CEO Peter Moore growing out his whiskers - we mean really growing out his whiskers. We reckon he could totally pull off this little number. Of course, even that 'stache woudn't compare to a certain reviews editor's super sexy stylings.

  • Last call! Joystiq needs your Movember donations

Perhaps you've heard, but the Joystiq crew is gathering donations for Movember, which uses the power of moustaches to raise awareness and money for men's health issues like prostate cancer. Throughout November, brave editors have been growing and sporting moustaches, much to the chagrin of their friends and loved ones. As you may have noticed, today is the last day of November, meaning we're shaving these puppies off at the stroke of midnight. But wait! There's still time to send in donations, which go toward men's health programs and make Joystiq look good in the industry-wide gaming challenge. We've already raised nearly $2,000! Can you push us over the edge? Would a bizarre YouTube video help sweeten the deal? Fine. Just look up! Once you're done 'staching out, head over to Joystiq's Movember page and donate. Don't just do it for men's health, do it for our wives and girlfriends, who have endured a month of moustache-driven hardship.

  • Aussie blogger brings Movember mental health series to WoW blog

From Hollywood celebrities to the guy next door, millions of people have made World of Warcraft a part of their lives. How do you play WoW? We're giving each approach its own 15 Minutes of Fame. Pitched battle in a frantic Battleground feels a little like Armageddon if you're on the wrong side of the wave. Depression can feel the same way to those struggling in its iron coils. Winding together entertaining and informative posts about both is popular blogger Gnomeaggedon, whose WoW blog (which has been tackling PvP topics since the summer of 2008) is working through a special month-long series on depression and mental health for the mustachioed Movember men's health movement. You wouldn't think someone who's struggled with depression himself and mental health issues in his immediate family would be a big fan of the emotional highs and lows of Battlegrounds. It's one of the questions Gnomeaggedon toys with regularly: "Kind of related to your interview with Lady Erinia -- is depression caused by excessive video gaming, or is video gaming 'self-medication' for depression? I know in my case, my depression began when I was a child. I had no idea, and things like that weren't discussed in my family -- so treatment came 20 years 'late.' And where WoW was an escape from the difficulties of life (as alcohol, etc., had been in the past), most people assumed I had a (stereotypical) problem with gaming." With a backlog of years' worth of posts about being a gnome mage, the PvP lifestyle, and scattered plugs for the awareness of mental health issues, Gnomeaggedon has left an indelible imprint in the WoW blogosphere. We had a cozy email conversation with the Aussie player to explore his enthusiastic support for Movember, how many fellow WoW players -- people you play with every day -- are likely to be touched in some way by mental health issues, and how "cleansing the debuff" of mental illness can make such a difference in people's lives.

As the days grow colder, so does the hair on many of our staff's faces grow longer. Such is the case with a sedentary group like us. So when we found out about a chance to combine our proclivity for facial hair growth with raising money for charities like LIVESTRONG and the Prostate Cancer Foundation, we simply couldn't resist. And thus: Movember. Today, we shave clean our faces, and prepare for the coming weeks of moustache growth, care, and coiffe. We hope that over the next 30 days, you'll join Team Joystiq's Movember group -- the "Joystiq Mo Brigade" -- and assist in our month-long effort to raise both awareness and funds for some great organizations. As the weeks go on, we'll be giving regular updates via Twitter and Facebook, and of course highlighting participants who go the extra mile. Will you be that extra mile goer? We hope! But hey, maybe it's kilometers where you live? That's okay, you can totally join as well (and be the extra kilometer goer, obviously). Donations are all handled through an easy website, so you won't have to handle any processing yourselves! Also, you get to grow a totally sweet moustache, which we heartily encourage you to share with us. Ladies are of course welcome as well, though the moustache growing part is entirely up to your discretion. Supporting your "Mo Bros" in their month of facial hair shame is well beyond adequate participation. On a final note, we'd like to point out that Team Joystiq is competing in a cross-game industry challenge particular to Movember, which includes press, developers, publishers, and lots of other folks. If donating for donations' sake just isn't enough, know this: donating will also assist in our continued domination. Excelsior!

A classy gentleman never needs a reason to grow some over-lip facial hair -- however, Rockstar and the Movember Foundation are offering a pretty good incentive for you to grow a glorious moustache. While the latter is asking all applicable males to grow sweet handlebars to raise awareness and donations for men's health issues (primarily prostate cancer), Rockstar is offering the charity's mouthbrow-growing participants a rare prize: They can end as a character in Red Dead Redemption. The charity event and contest kicks off tomorrow, so if you're interested in helping out, sign up on the Movember Foundation page, and on Rockstar's contest site. Oh, also, you're going to need to shave that sweet Fu Manchu you're already sporting, and start over from scratch. C'mon, you haven't seen your philtrum in like, three years. It misses you.
