My Garden, EA's flora management simulator for 3DS, has been canceled. EA announced the death of what was supposed to be a 3DS launch title during an event in New York City today. Though we currently don't have an official explanation for the game's cancellation, it's not hard to see why EA stopped watering this one: In our preview of My Garden several months ago, we described it as a "lifeless" game with a "jumpy framerate," "unresponsive controls" and "uncomfortable" 3D visuals. Update: EA's official statement on the cancellation: "EA has decided to cancel Gardens for the Nintendo 3DS. We didn't feel the title would attract a large audience on that platform. EA is supporting the launch of the Nintendo 3DS with Spring releases of Madden NFL and The Sims."

The 3DS has been in hiding since it caught our eyes at its big E3 debut. Unfortunately, My Garden is a poor second showing of Nintendo's novel handheld. Shown at an EA event last night in New York, the first playable build of EA's garden simulator fell flat, in more ways than one. First announced at TGS, not much was known about the game leading up to this preview. Now, I realize it's because the game doesn't offer much to know about. The goal of the game is rather simple: Plant various flowers and garden items to attract insects and animals. You'll want to attract specific combinations of these critters and take pictures of them to complete objectives, unlocking more flowers and items to use. That's it. %Gallery-102257%

We just received screenshots in advance of EA's TGS event -- we're literally sitting in the audience waiting for it right now -- and we've already spotted a bit of news. Included among the assets are screenshots of a game called My Garden for 3DS. We'll learn more about the game when EA actually, you know, announces it, but it's pretty self-explanatory: a garden simulator -- in THREE DEE. Like a real garden, but without that noisome sunlight! And also with a cartoon tanuki guiding you. Our garden doesn't do that. At least, we don't think so. Update: An EA producer just showed the game, in which players unlock plants by completing photo-based goals. It'll be out alongside the 3DS, whenever that is released.%Gallery-102257%
