The NBA Live 07 servers are going to the Big Locker Room in the Sky on Feb. 2, but Achievement seekers are trying one last time to get 1,000+ players online concurrently, a lofty goal that would nab participants 100 points a piece. So set aside a little time on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. EST and get ready to game with the Xbox360Achievements.org team for a cause.

  • Those are the lamest achievements ever

The hip and trendy kids over at G4's The Feed put together a list of what they think are the 17 lamest Xbox 360 achievements to date. Horrible games like Bomberman Act Zero and NBA Live '07 made the list as well as our favorites like Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas. We agree with most of their picks, but really agree with hating NBA Live's "Online With 1,000 People", GRAW's "Committed (Multiplayer)" and FFXI's ridiculous "Reach Level 75 with each character class". We guess this article made us further realize that there are truly lame achievements out there and that we have to be careful. Remember, friends don't let friends spend days on end trying to earn lame achievements. It's one epidemic that we can stop.[Via Digg]

  • 360 Voice's tally on the NBA Live Events

Given the nature of 360 Voice, it would be very easy for them to track activity on any given game with its user base. So, if we take a look at the NBA Live 07 activity over the last month, we see the results for how many 360 Voice users were on NBA Live 07. On February 10th, the day of Achieve 360 Points' event, 326 360 Voice users logged on to get their achievement. On February 25th, 537 360 Voice users showed up for Xbox 360 Achievements' event to get their Achievement. This could be taken as an indicator of how successful either site's go at the Achievement was, or just shows how many people at x360a use 360 Voice. Either way, it's interesting to look at the aftermath and draw your own conclusions. We're guessing the spike in late January was the first attempt that didn't get as much attention. It's also interesting to look at the complete analysis and see how many people were online when the game launched back in September. This is also a reminder to any community sites out there: If you want X3F to support/sponsor any event you're holding send us an email and we'll be in touch.[Thanks, DAKing240]

We've told you, we've reminded you, and now we're officially sponsoring the 1,000 People Online Achievement Event alongside MyGamerCard and Xbox 360 Achievements. The scheduling hasn't changed, as it's still slated for 8:00 PM GMT (check your local time), and will last for 3 hours. This is going to be big and we're proud to be an integral part of this. Even Major Nelson recognized this by letting his readers know what was going down this weekend. Remember, this is going to be your last chance to get this Achievement. So, if you missed out on Achieve360Points moderately successful attempt, go get your hands on a copy of NBA Live 07 and we'll see you online Sunday.

  • Achieve360Points NBA Live Achievement Successful

The first of two attempts at the "1000 people online" Achievement for NBA Live 07 went down on the 10th, hosted by Achieve360Points.com. It started at 8:00 PM EST and they had the required 1000 online users at 8:10 PM EST. Unfortunately, it didn't go down without a hiccup or two. Apparently, while people who actually were in the lobby got the Achievement, everyone else who was just listening to the ESPN Radio or another activity while online did not. That sucks, since those very people counted towards the total online count. A360P is going to try to get a hold of EA and see if they can award the Achievement to those deserving who did not get acknowledged during the event. Well, at the very least, they have another shot on the 25th, and after this past weekend's "troubleshooting", they know what to do to be eligible for the 100 Gamerscore. Were you at the event, and if you didn't get the Achievement, are you going to give it another shot on the 25th?

The objective is simple: unlock NBA Live 07's "Online with 1,000 people" Xbox 360 Achievement. To do so, Achieve360Points.com is asking all would-be b-ballers to get online Saturday night (8-9 pm EST). You don't even need to play. Simply stream ESPN radio (via Xbox Live) and go about your business; making this arguably the easiest 100 Achievement points you'll ever earn.Needless to say, NBA Live 07 does not rank among the top titles played by Xbox Live users. The most difficult part of Saturday's task might be locating the game for cheap. Anyone wanna loan us a copy?Xbox 360 Fanboy astutely notes that Achieve360 has apparently hijacked the idea for this community effort from competitor Xbox360Achievements.org, which is hosting a similar initiative on the 25th; though digging around on Achieve360 turns up this evidence, which suggests the NBA Live feat was attempted (and failed) in late January. So props to both sites -- we hope to see both forthcoming efforts succeed!

Achieve360Points.com is hosting a similar event to x360a's previously reported NBA Live 07 1000 people online Achievement event. For those who can't make it for the 25th's attempt, or simply can't wait that long to unlock the achievement, A360P is holding the event on the 10th-11th of this month, scheduled nearly two weeks before Xbox360Achievements.org's. A360P's event is on a slightly different schedule, taking place in the evening at 8:00 PM Eastern as opposed to the Sunday afternoon (3:00 PM EST) for x360a. In any case, it will be interesting to see if both succeed, and if so, who had the most users online. We hope to see you go online and help either event succeed.Update: Altered article to neutral point of view.

  • X360A.org goes for elusive NBA Live 07 Achievement

Our friends at Xbox 360 Achievements are organizing an event to unlock the "Online With 1000 People" Achievement for NBA Live 07. So far, no one has unlocked this yet, but here's your chance to be part of what may be your only chance to get the 100 Gamerscore Achievement. So mark your calendars, because this is happening on Sunday, February 25th at 8:00 PM GMT. So for our North American readers, that's 3:00 PM EST and 12:00 Noon PST. Central and Mountain time zones are relied on to have passed Grade 2 Math at this point in their life and are on their own. According to EA Sports, you do not need to be playing a game to be counted as online, but can just listen to the ESPN radio service. Apparently, during x360a's last attempt, which was on very short notice, they got an astonishing 917 people online. This time has a lot more lead time, and is getting a lot more publicity. We hope they pull through, and all of you fanboys out there should do your part. If you own NBA Live 07, sign on during the specified time on the 25th. If you don't then use Gamefly, GameAccess, or Blockbuster to get your hands on a copy by 3 weeks from now. Come on, let's make some Xbox 360 history here. Are you going to "Jump In"?

  • In-game ads adapting

While in-game ads aren't new, Wired News explores recent additions to the trend. Some advertisements are becoming more overt, while other forms of product placement are more subtly placed in games. Adidas uses the product-placement route with frequent branding in NBA Live 07. Burger King takes the obvious, if comical approch in Fight Night Round 3, with an unlockable King mascot character who joins your ringside entourage. Acclaim plans a different approach with free, ad-supported MMO games; pop-up ads from corporate sponsors would let you know which real-world company just paid for your in-game sword. We're interested in seeing how gamers view that tradeoff, but clearly there's a line where too many ads will scare players away. • EA Sports perfecting mediocrity

A group of NBA Live '07 fanboys have had enough of the series' annual increase in broken gameplay and have written a letter to EA expressing their displeasure. Although the focus of the letter is on NBA Live '07, with YouTube links showing the latest issues with the series, it touches on the general unhappiness with other declining EA franchises like Madden and FIFA. "At one time, EA was producing the best titles money could buy and one had little reason to look elsewhere. Now gamers have a sense that if you want the best, it's not EA."And as an aside, more than a few eyebrows were raised when press copies and reviews of NBA Live '07 came trickling in a week after the game went on shelves, almost as if EA knew they produced a sub-par product. Hollywood employs this same tactic on bad movies so they can get as much money back before the word gets out how bad things really are.Although the issues expressed by the fans of NBA Live '07 are positively valid, there is the alternative NBA 2K7 from 2K Games which was released the same day as NBA Live '07. This doesn't help Madden fans who experienced similar issues with Madden '07, but have no recourse because of EA's NFL exclusivity deal. In the case of Madden, EA also shows apparent ignorance toward reasonable proprosals by fans to fix the series. It's certainly cause for concern that EA Sports is taking the "we'll patch it later" stance toward console games this early. This is the first generation capable of console patching and ideally should be used to fix subtle errors. Instead EA is following the PC model that console gamers have fled from: ship first, patch later. It's probably time for sports gamers to show consumer activism and take their money to other franchises. That'll get EA's attention faster than any letter.

EA is collaborating with the ESPN network to include real world sports coverage in NBA Live 07 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Aside from SportsCenter updates every twenty minutes, gamers will also have access to live streaming podcasts, including The Dan Patrick Show and Mike & Mike in the Morning. In addition, downloadable highlights from around the sport's world will be updated every hour. Here's to hoping Madden will get the same treatment.

If you're a basketball aficionado you may be interested to know that NBA Live 07 is slated to be one of EA's lineups for the PS3 launch. By "one of" I'm of course alluding to their tendency to include an army of sports games for November and the Sony console as well. You may also be interested in the fact that they've predicted who will take the cake in the NBA Finals coming up via their NBA Live 07 simulation (though we don't know for which console). Hope this doesn't ruin anything for you, but it's Dallas Mavericks over the Heat.Sorry Miami fans.
