The NCAA Basketball 09: March Madness Edition "Bracket Pack" update in now available from the Marketplace. The free patch will introduce this year's NCAA Tournament teams, including "authentic" team ratings and seeds, into the NCAA Basketball 09 XBLA spinoff, which was released last week sans demo for 1200 ($15).Unfortunately, we won't be leading St. Zeppo's Clown College to another Cinderella championship this year, as our alma mater forfeited to the Morehead State Eagles before yesterday's play-in match following an accident on the way to the game involving the team clown car and a suspiciously placed banana peel. Which, by the way, got us thinking: there really needs to be a sanctioned BOZO Conference, so St. Zeppo's gets an automatic bid every year. Ah well, there's always the NIT ...

PopCap Games' alarmingly addictive Peggle and Square Enix's Crystal Defenders will both be releasing to the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, March 11 for 800 ($10) each. That is, if Major Nelson and his podcasting co-host, e, can be trusted (we think so!). This week's Peggle release isn't all that surprising, seeing that a recent press release confirmed a March release, but hearing that Crystal Defenders will complete this Wednesday's XBLA twofer, well ... that's just out of left field. Not that we're complaining or anything, we're just overjoyed that Bjorn will be giving our 360 an incurable case of "Extreme Fever." Update: NCAA Basketball MME is out too! (No demo available.) [Thanks, Liam G.]

If you're like many of us on staff, you don't get interested in college basketball until the tail end of the season, when we get the opportunity to play in an office pool and willingly give our money to the ones who have been paying attention. This year, that entry fee might be better spent on EA's NCAA Basketball 09: March Madness Edition, which takes the full version of EA's hoops game and pares it down to just 65 teams and the tourney. While it does preclude our annual NCAA Basketball tradition of leading St. Zeppo's Clown College to virtual glory, at least this scaled-down title is available for a very attractive 1200 ($15). Look for it on Xbox Live -- and only Xbox Live -- right around the beginning of the March 19 madness.
