November is a colossal month in the streaming ecosystem, with heavyweight newcomers Apple TV+ and Disney+ both making their debuts. Netflix doesn't plan to go quietly into the night though, as it has plenty of major titles coming to its platform over the month. Most notably, Martin Scorcese's latest mob epic The Irishman will hit Netflix November 27th -- just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Also on the docket are The King, starring Timothée Chalamet (November 1st), and season two of The End of the F***ing World (November 5th).

It seemed just about everyone was talking about To All The Boys I've Loved Before when Netflix released its highly enjoyable adaptation of Jenny Han's teen romance novel almost a year ago. Netflix said last October it was "one of our most-viewed original films ever with strong repeat viewing" and it greenlit a sequel that December. Just in time for Valentine's Day, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You will hit Netflix on February 12th.

February is right around the corner, which means we'll all be spending a lot of time inside. It is the coldest month of the year, after all. So why not stave off cabin fever with Netflix's incoming lineup of originals and licensed classics? The streaming platform is bringing back comedian Hasan Minhaj's weekly show Patriot Act for another run, and you'll be able to catch new episodes every Sunday starting February 10th. Netflix is also debuting the first run of its new series Russian Doll, in which a woman gets caught in a Groundhog Day-like loop that forces her to relive her 36th birthday party over and over again. It drops February 1st.

Netflix's choose-your-own adventure TV shows for kids went down so well that it's planning one for adults, reports Bloomberg. Or was the decision fueled by HBO's entrance into the field with Steven Soderbergh's Mosaic series and accompanying smartphone app? Originally unveiled in June, Netflix's interactive programming lets iOS and TV viewers control parts of the storyline (including up to 13 choices for children's animation Puss in Boots: Trapped in an Epic Tale).

Bright, from director David Ayer and starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, is probably Netflix's highest profile movie release this year. Will Smith stars as a policeman on an Earth that's inhabited by orcs, elves and other creatures. Edgerton is the first orc on the police force and becomes Smith's partner. The movie releases on December 22nd, just in time for the holidays. The second trailer came out today, and you can take a look at it below.

How Netflix keeps ‘Stranger Things’ lo-fi in a high-tech world

    by

Netflix is still surprised that Stranger Things, a science-fiction series starring five young kids, became a worldwide sensation immediately after it was released. Unlike some of its biggest hits, like House of Cards (which is based on a British series), Stranger Things was an unknown property when it premiered in July of 2016. But it quickly captivated audiences, thanks to its '80s nostalgia and the perfectly executed homages to Hollywood classics from the likes of Stephen King and Steven Spielberg.

The latest Netflix original series is The OA, a mysterious eight-part show that comes out, in full, on December 16th. Its tagline is "trust the unknown" and Netflix is apparently taking this advice to heart: The streaming company tweeted a handful of cryptic messages this morning, including the questions, "Have you seen death?" and "Have you seen darkness?" before sharing what appeared to be a cell phone video of a woman jumping off a bridge.

As Netflix's store of original content continues to grow by leaps and bounds, The Hollywood Reporter notes it is adding another new series: Dear White People. It's based on 2014 film with the same name that took a satirical look at the experiences of minority students in a majority white Ivy League environment. Its creator Justin Simien made a trailer for the flick with his tax return to promote an Indiegogo campaign that funded the movie, which went on to win the Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent at the Sundance Film Festival.

Amazon and Netflix are cranking out original series at a rapid pace. The content isn't just for adults, though, as both streaming libraries feature a smattering of original kids stuff, too. Netflix is expanding its lineup with Beat Bugs: an animated series that follows the adventures of five friends. What's more, the show is inspired by songs from The Beatles, because, you know... bugs. As you might expect, the tunes are a big part of the show and there's some well-known artists who cover the tracks for the series.

  • Netflix is bringing 'House of Cards' back for S5 in 2017

The Frank Underwood 2016 campaign doesn't kick off until March 4th, but Netflix is already announcing that its flagship original series House of Cards will be back again in 2017. There is a major change in store for season five, as it will be without creator, writer and showrunner Beau Willimon. As Willimon's Twitter profile explains, he's been working on HoC for the last five years, so it could be that this is just to take some time off. Update: Beau Willimon has issued a statement of his own, saying "it's time for me to move on with new endeavors." You can read it in full below.

In case it wasn't obvious already, Netflix is the knight in shining armor for fans of shows that ended before their time. Gilmore Girls appears to be the latest show to come back to life after a long time dead and buried: According to TVLine, Warner Bros. has reached a deal with Netflix, series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino to bring Gilmore Girls back to Netflix as a series of four 90-minute mini-movies. Negotiations have only just begun, but stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson are all said to be on board.

  • Orange is the New Black trailer promises a 'next level crazy' season two

House of Cards is probably Netflix's most-discussed original series, but fans of Orange is the New Black would argue it matches Frank Underwood & Co. in both deviousness and quality. As usual, the entire second season will premiere at once on June 6th, and it should be an even wilder ride than the first time around, as shown in this trailer (embedded after the break). The gang is back, including Piper, her ex Alex Vause played by Laura Prepon, Crazy Eyes, Pennsatucky and all the rest. Netflix isn't the only service or channel investing in original content to set itself apart, but over the last year or so it's been one of the most consistently successful, and with new additions like Sense8 and Marco Polo coming soon, those trying to catch up will face a tough job in prying any of its 30 million+ customers loose.

  • Netflix renews Hemlock Grove for a second season

Netflix's first foray into the horror genre seems to have gone well, as the company announced it's renewing Hemlock Grove for a second season. The 10 episode run will debut next year, presumably after fellow Netflix Originals Lilyhammer (later this year) and House of Cards (currently in production) make their second run through the gauntlet. Hemlock Grove didn't receive the same level of critical praise as other series Netflix has premiered, but executive producer Eli Roth called worldwide fan response "phenomenal" and season one "just a warm up." So let us know -- did you enjoy it enough that you're looking for more (and, will presumably hang onto that Netflix subscription)?
