We're pretty sure there are better ways to spend your cash than virtual real estate in the Entropia Universe MMORPG. Then again, we didn't spend $100,000 on a virtual asteroid -- John "NeverDie" Jacobs did, in 2005. And here we are, some five years later, only to learn that he flipped the thing for a staggering $635K -- enough to pay the salaries of roughly a dozen American high school teachers for a year. Apparently, both purchases have earned places in the Guinness Book of World Records for something like "most expensive virtual item," but our favorite part of this post was finding a video for Mr. Die's tune "My Girl's A Gamer Chick." Check it out after the break.

If you're a frequenter of Entropia Universe, chances are you've heard of Club NEVERDIE, the virtual night spot purchased by John "NeverDie" Jacobs in 2005 for the tidy sum of US $100,000. The club, located on a giant asteroid orbiting the planet Calypso, was history's most expensive virtual item for a number of years until it was surpassed by the purchase of the Crystal Palace Space Station in 2009 (a US $330,000 sale). Now, an Entropia Universe fansite is reporting that the remaining portions of Club NEVERDIE have been sold to a gamer named John Foma Kalun in a transaction valued at US $335,000. Jacobs had previously sold zones of the asteroid, known as Biodomes in game terms, for US $300,000. Read all about it at EntropiaPlanets.com. [Thanks to Peter for the tip.]

The newest edition of the Planet Calypso newsletter brings some pretty exciting news for longtime players: Jon "NEVERDIE" Jacobs is selling his rock. Yes, you heard that right. The guy who made the Guinness Book of World Records by paying $100,000 for the asteroid in Planet Calypso is taking offers for that same asteroid. You get everything except the name -- he understandably wants to keep that. If your pockets aren't deep enough to take him up on his offer, how about some Proteron DNA instead? Proteron DNA pieces are now dropping, leading hunters to roam around chasing after it in the hopes of spawning their very own Proteron. Hunters roaming into new lands means taxes, which means more money all around. In either case, the new happenings in Planet Calypso are sure to keep many players entertained!

How would you like to wake up and find that you made $12,000 overnight? Seems like a dream, doesn't it? How would you like to have that $12,000 come from a single drop you found one day while farming in your favorite MMO? Now it seems even more like a dream. But this is the reality for Timon "Stuka" Miles, a relatively new player to Entropia Universe, the game where the fictional currency is linked to real world money, akin to Second Life. Stuka's fortune stems from a piece of DNA from the extinct "Letomie" monster -- an item that can resurrect the creature if all of it's DNA fragments are found inside of the game. After a brief placement on the Entropia Universe forums, Stuka moved the auction to the official in-game auction house where it attracted the attention of Zachurm "Deathifier" Emegen, owner of the 26,000 real world dollar Treasure Island, and Jon "NEVERDIE" Jacobs, owner of the 100,000 real world dollar space station.

I can't believe that someone actually made a Machinima in Entropia Universe! Color me shocked, but when I tried it out, I spent about $50 USD on buying and repairing my armor before I gave up. I never found any of the cool places that are in this video. It almost looks fun.Created by Ingame Productions, the credits thank Jon "NEVERDIE" Jacobs, among others. At least Mr. Jacobs is getting use out of Club Neverdie, which he paid a whopping $100,000 USD for!

Friday, November 23, 2007 will see the opening of this year's Massive Multiplayer Online World Championships (MMOWC), the first part of which will take place in Club NeverDie, which you'll recall was bought by Jon 'NeverDie' Jacobs as an investment, for $100,000. This year, the finals will be held in Miami, Florida, on Sunday, December 16. According to the press release, "Gamers who make it to the finals will have the option of an all expenses-paid weekend trip to South Beach, FL, where they will be filmed in a hot new reality show, hosted by superstar gamer NeverDie. The champion will win a land Area on Planet Calypso in the Entropia Universe worth more than $20,000 USD. The land area will feature hunting and mining taxation rights, which will provide the winner with a profitable real cash monthly income."Sounds like NeverDie is making the most of his investment. I wonder if he'll offer the winner some low-APR bank loans as well?(Note: Although the referring article consistently reads '2008' for the date, it's obviously going to be 2007)(Via businesswire)
