If you were one of the lucky fans who attended the Guild Wars 2 panel at New York Comic Con, you were treated to a slideshow of typically beautiful concept art. Those of us who did not attend get to share that privilege now, thanks to ArenaNet. The developers have set the slideshow to music and released it as an HD video. The slideshow encompasses art from all five playable races, and the variety of images shown may well make an extra viewing or two worthwhile. The video includes everything from sweeping landscapes and huge vehicles to armor details and small household items. In between are creatures, armor sets, interiors, and much more. Follow along after the jump to see for yourself!

Thanks to this video after the break, you can (virtually) be there at the New York Comic-Con to experience Keiji Inafune's surprise reveal of Mega Man Legends 3 Project for yourself. Inafune asks the audience to help design the rocket to rescue Mega Man from Elysium (where he was stranded at the end of Mega Man Legends 2), introduces the semi-democratic design process Capcom is trying out, and even ... puts out a "help wanted" sign. If you love Mega Man, read fluent Japanese, and want to live in San Mateo, CA, you could be Capcom's Developer Room Liaison! It would be a nice way to pick up some money for a 3DS, at least.

  • Project Tuatara preview: Enter 'infinite reality'

While it seems like the industry's penchant for hyperbole has long exhausted the best buzzwords, Microvision has coined a good one: "infinite reality." Not quite virtual reality, and not quite 3D, Microvision's "Project Tuatara" is a novel concept that enables a new kind of gaming. Gamers are unlikely to be familiar with Microvision, as its breakthrough product is an ultra-portable video projector. However, when you attach said projector technology to a mouse-emulating gyroscopic gun controller, you have something that might pique our interest. At New York Comic Con, Microvision demonstrated how Project Tuatara can be applied to games, by syncing the gun to a wireless HDMI-equipped laptop running Capcom's Lost Planet 2 -- oh, and by inflating a giant black dome to play in.

DC Universe Online was all over New York Comic Con. The folks at Sony Online Entertainment presented a playable demo on the show floor, an info-laden panel highlighting character creation and a super-exclusive fan event with 500 of DCUO's biggest fans. Before the fan event got popping, Massively enjoyed the opportunity to sit down with comics legend Jim Lee and DCUO Art Director Mark Anderson. Lee, co-publisher of DC Comics and executive creative director of DCUO, and Anderson shared some special insights into the game's development. Conversation ranged from DCUO's similarity to Grand Theft Auto to Lee's introduction to the MMO genre.

The gods of New York Comic Con smiled upon Detective Comics fans and MMO junkies alike this weekend, as DC Universe Online kicked butt and took questions at not one, but a senses-shattering two Q&A sessions on Saturday. Conventioneers enjoyed a glimpse into the character-creation process at the "Creating the Next Legend Panel," and then Sony Online Entertainment invited fans to a special Q&A event afterward. And I would not be exaggerating if I said the audience reaction was riotously positive. Executive Creative Director Jim Lee, Creative Director Chris Cao and Art Director Mark Anderson shared details and fielded dozens of questions about the DC-based MMO at both events. Discussion ranged from costume creation to endgame content to the game's recent delay to early 2011.

Ever since we first heard that Daft Punk would be creating the soundtrack for Tron: Legacy (the upcoming film from Disney), we've been hoping that music from our favorite French space aliens would make its way to Tron: Evolution, the game tie-in from Propaganda Games. In a panel at New York Comic Con this weekend, Disney Interactive senior PR manager Eric Wein confirmed as much, answering a fan's question on the subject by saying, "We haven't announced details for the soundtrack, we will soon. We can tell you it'll be a combination of the film's soundtrack and some unique, original music." We'll be holding our breath in anticipation for that forthcoming full soundtrack announcement and, of course, playing lots of DJ Hero.

  • Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom preview: a lovable beast

    by

    10.10.2010

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is the kind of game you want to love. It has a winning premise, made all the more charming by the immediately likable Majin -- a towering beast that forges a strange friendship with a thief, Tepeu. The two characters balance each other surprisingly well, with Tepeu's cunning and speed matched by the Majin's adorable dimwittedness and hulking force. Namco Bandai calls it "partnership gaming," and it's seemingly the latest trend in games -- if Enslaved and The Last Guardian are any indication. Coupled with some beautiful art, and some interesting gameplay mechanics, Majin should be a winner. But perhaps developer Game Republic isn't up to the task. While Majin is unlikely to be the train wreck that was their last project, Clash of the Titans, it's likely to find a similar fate as its (arguably) greatest hit so far -- Folklore. Like Majin, Folklore also had a rather original and intriguing concept. Yet, in spite of great art and some fun gameplay, it didn't have the polish expected of a genuine blockbuster title. Like its predecessor, Majin stumbles around greatness, but doesn't always hit the mark. I loved the various implementations of "partnership gaming" in my preview demo. You control Tepeu, but never the beast. Tepeu is a rather capable bloke, able to reach places the beast (obviously) can't. He's quite skilled with his staff, but the enemies they face have a power that renders Tepeu powerless: seeming immortality. Outside of a few stealth attacks, only the beast has the force to finish off the inky creatures, meaning Tepeu will have to use his wit to lure enemies into traps, and gain the upper hand on his foes.%Gallery-86981%

  • Mega Man Legends 3 invites fans to actively participate in game development

"It's been ten years since the last Mega Man Legends game," Inafune reminded the captive New York Comic Con audience, before unveiling a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Mega Man Legends 3 Project for Nintendo 3DS. Why the "Project" in the title? Inafune clarified that this "project" would be a collaborative experience -- but not in the Mega Man Universe kind of way. Instead, the community will be able to actively participate in the development of the game. The Capcom-Unity website will be updated with a "Dev Room," where fans will be able to submit their gameplay ideas, boss ideas, character ideas, and more. In the future, fans will be able to vie for a position in the game's voice cast. The first challenge for fans is to pick the next heroine in the Legends series. Nine different artists, including Inafune himself, are offering designs. The fan-driven vote will determine the female star of Legends 3. Keep an eye on the Dev Room for your chance to decide the future of the long-dormant Legends series. Update: Now with first video, after the break!%Gallery-104715%

  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution preview: talking up the possibilities

I have an admission to make: I have never played a Deus Ex game. But I wish I had, after experiencing a brief encounter with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The first game promised a game world centered around the consequence of your actions -- and a decade later, the concept is still fascinating. To showcase the versatility of the game world, I got to see one level, played three different ways. Set in a futuristic Detroit, you'll assume the role of Adam Jensen. There's a chip you must recover, but it's hidden in a corpse locked away in the police station's morgue. How are you going to retrieve the data? Shooting your way in is the last resort, you're told over a communication device. Considering the number of (innocent) police officers stationed there, that's wise advice. You can walk into the front door, but only if you have the right conversational skills. A former partner of Jensen's is the receptionist, demoted for something related to your past. Somehow, you'll have to gain his favor by choosing the appropriate dialogue commands. When given a choice in the conversation, you'll see big key words appear on the screen, not unlike in Mass Effect. A quick glance should give you an idea of the end result, but Human Revolution goes a step further by providing your full response at the bottom of the screen. That way, there's no confusion over what your character will say when selecting an option.%Gallery-95677%

During a panel last night at the New York Comic Con, transmedia company Starlight Runner -- a business that helps plan cross-media campaigns for various properties, including Microsoft's Halo franchise -- gave a presentation on its work. Among the slides shown, company president and CEO Jeff Gomez previewed one that gave the audience a look at the future of Halo: two new trilogies starting in 2012/2013 with a major motion picture set for release by 2014. Update: Microsoft representative Ryan James contacted Joystiq to say, "We worked with Starlight in the past, but the info isn't an accurate representation of our plans for the Halo franchise." Starlight Runner have yet to issue any official comment on the news. [Thanks Steven!]

Konami's classic, six-player X-Men arcade beat-em-up will make its way to the XBLA and PSN platforms, as revealed during Marvel's New York Comic Con 2010 presentation. Marvel Games' T.Q. Jefferson revealed that the title will be ported by its original developer to the two platforms "soon," and will retain its six-player cap, achieveable through an online co-op mode. Jefferson didn't reveal a price for the title -- we'll try and ascertain more information while on the floor at NYCC. Also, we call Dazzler. Don't even try to get in here and play as Dazzler. We called her.

During the still-in-progress Marvel Games panel at New York Comic Con 2010, Beenox creative director Thomas Wilson revealed that the previously GameStop-exclusive (with pre-orders) "Cosmic" costumes for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will be made available as paid DLC sometime before the end of the month. Wilson didn't make any announcements regarding price, but we can't imagine the costume pack costing too many Spider-Cents.

  • Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded preview: re:ally familiar

Within the span of a year, Kingdom Hearts fans are experiencing three different games in the series: 358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep, and now, Re:Coded. While each game continues the franchise's penchant for high production values, we can't help but wonder if the series is overstaying its welcome. Re:Coded isn't a new game per se, but it's the first time American fans will be able to experience this side-story (minus the few of you that own a Japanese mobile phone). The revamped DS version bumps up the graphical quality considerably, matching the fidelity of 358/2 Days, while throwing in a number of new features, such as an leveling up system and Tag Mode. However, the side-story origins of Re:Coded are still very clear. This is not the Sora you've played as in Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. Instead, it is a digital copy of Sora that traverses through an infected "datascape." The demo felt entirely disconnected from the canon, and the lack of any voice acting makes its low-budget cell phone roots that much more obvious. (Cutscenes are instead shown as conversations between character portraits.) Gameplay is what you've come to expect from a Kingdom Hearts title: an accessible, RPG-inspired hack 'n slash. Those that have played 358/2 Days on DS will find themselves in familiar territory here, with the controls being nearly identical. However, the infected dungeon I played through wasn't particularly inspiring. There were only two enemy types to fight against, and the blue and green color palette of the stage wasn't very attractive. The dungeon design wasn't interesting, either, with Sora simply having to bash through various boxes to progress forward.

If you didn't figure it out, it's a viral campaign for Okamiden, and he can be found at Capcom's booth. The Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster just keeps on growing. At a New York Comic Con panel, Capcom announced the addition of Bionic Commando's Nathan Spencer (with dreadlocks and bionic arm!) and Ghosts 'N Goblins' Sir Arthur, both from the Capcom half of the fighting mash-up. In addition, Capcom revealed some alternate costumes for Spider-Man. Oh, and there's a story, too: "Victor Von Doom has assembled the greatest villains his world has to offer. Together with the diabolical Albert Wesker, this unholy alliance will join their respective universes in an effort to conquer both. But doing so has come with a terrible price. A great and powerful threat has been awakened .... a threat that will set into motion a battle the likes of which neither world has ever seen ... a battle that threatens the fate of two worlds!" But that's not all! This weekend will hold at least one more MvC3-related surprise. Marvel is having a panel of its own tomorrow morning at 10:45 a.m. EDT, where it will announce two more characters from its side of the game -- in addition to a brand new game. We know that one is a returning character, but one is a newcomer to games. Exciting, no? We're planning on live-blogging the event, so stay tuned!%Gallery-104667%
