As Infendo writes about one of the funniest headlines they've seen on the Nintendo News Channel, we imagine the title of this post as being the tag line for one of the greatest movies ever made: Clinton and Gore's Excellent Adventures. Move over Bill and Ted ...Are we nuts, or does it look like they're going to kiss?

If you've booted up the Wii today, you might have noticed an update that unlocks the News Channel arrived a little early. Earlier we reported that this was to occur on Saturday, January 27th (tomorrow), so news of an early release should place a feather in the cap of those waiting on it to become available. News available comes via The Associated Press, covering the categories of National News, International News, Sports, Arts/Entertainment, Business, Science/Health and Technology.[Thanks Dave!]

So, did you play with your Wii this morning? Notice anything special? No, look again... the Wii News channel finally came online in Japan... then Europe... and now the US a full day ahead of its scheduled launch. As such, your Wii should now be glowing in that come-hither, please-update-me-daddy kind of way. The channel only feeds articles from the Associated Press (for now, anyway) and only under the categories of National and International news, Sports, Arts/Entertainment, Business, Science/Health, and Technology. However, the Globe function allows you to sort your news by geographic region which, well, is neato-keen. Best of all, the new functionality somehow skirts around generally accepted accounting practices -- it won't cost you a thing.[Thanks, Alex]

  • Wii News Channel to debut this Saturday

Come this Saturday, Wii owners won't even have to put down their waggle-wand to find out how the Wii has shattered the life of another owner, so long as the Associated Press reports it. In a two-year deal with Nintendo, the Associated Press has agreed to supply the Wii's News Channel with both top stories and photographs from around the world. The news itself will be delivered much like the Weather Channel -- on an interactive map. Should you want the local news in a specific location, you may simply select it on the map. This must be how god in all her infinite wisdom and five thighs views our world. The free News Channel (aside from an internet connection, duh) has but one requirement: the Opera browser. So if you plan on shunning all forms of communication to the outside world other than your Wii, you'd better download it now before they actually start charging for it.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

According to the Wii Channel Gallery, release dates for the Wii's Forecast and News Channels have finally been determined. With the Forecast Channel becoming available on December 20th and the New Channel able to be used on January 27th, Wii owners will finally be able to take part in some of the Wii's nifty, promised features outside of its great games. Sure, they're "novelty" features for the console, but we can't be the only ones interested in using them on a regular basis. As gamers, we're more likely to sit in front of our console(s) for hours, likely missing our local news broadcasts. Yes, we could check the internet, but the appeal of getting essential information with real-world relevance while engaged in our games is great. Are we alone?[Thanks JR!]
