What's on TV this week: 'Ozark' season three
Another week at home, and at least there are a few worthy options to watch. After a lengthy gap, Netflix's Ozark will pick up season three with the plot advanced six months from where we last visited the characters. On CBS All Access things are wrapping up for season one of Star Trek: Picard, and this week is also the season finale of Terriers 2, aka Stumptown. One thing to keep an eye on for PS4 and Switch owners is the potential debut of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The classic game is supposed to debut in "early 2020" on the platforms, and briefly appeared on Sony's official release list -- we'll see if it actually drops this week. Netflix won an Emmy for its 'Bandersnatch' interactive episode
The 2019 Emmy awards were a highlight run of "TV" shows that you can watch delivered over the internet, with streaming favorites like Amazon Prime's Fleabag and Netflix's Ozark bringing home multiple awards during the broadcast. Netflix's interactive Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch only won one trophy tonight, but it marked the format's arrival when it was awarded Outstanding Television Movie over challengers like Deadwood and King Lear.
'Game of Thrones' and Amazon's 'Mrs. Maisel' lead Emmy nominations
The Television Academy has revealed this year's Emmy nominations and to absolutely no one's surprise, Game of Thrones scooped up the most nods with 32, including Outstanding Drama Series and 10 nominees across various acting categories. The show with the second-highest tally of nominations is Amazon Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 20. It won several awards last year, including the top Outstanding Comedy Series prize. It's nominated again in that category.
Streaming shows dominate SAG Awards TV nominations
Streaming shows stand a much better chance of winning SAG Awards in 2019 than they did this year -- in fact, they're guaranteed at least one. The Screen Actors Guild has announced its nominees for the 25th annual awards, and streaming productions are thriving in every series-focused (that is, TV-focused) category. Most of those categories have two or more streaming shows in the running, and the "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series" category has nothing but online shows. Voters will have to choose between GLOW, Grace and Frankie and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, with Grace and Maisel receiving two nominations each for that award.
What's coming to Netflix in August: 'Disenchantment' and 'Ozark'
Shiny profile icons aren't all that's new on Netflix this month. Headlining the streaming service's new shows are Simpsons-creator Matt Groening's Disenchantment and Ozark's second season. Those debut August 17th and 31st, respectively, but there's plenty to keep you busy until then.
