Catch a shiny Palkia Pokémon at GameStop
From September 9 until September 29, Pokéfans can visit their local GameStop to pick up a special shiny version of the legendary Pokémon Palkia. This marks the second leg of a promotion in which GameStop is offering gratis shiny, legendary Pokémon to build hype for the October 12 release of Pokémon X and Y. During August GameStop offered players a shiny Dialga, while October will see the store handing out shiny Giratinas. To earn your new shiny Palkia, you must show up at a GameStop location with either a Nintendo 3DS or DS, and a copy of Pokémon Black, White, Black 2 or White 2. GameStop reminds players to ensure that their game has fewer than 11 Wonder Cards collected, as the Palkia transfer will require at least one free Wonder Card slot.

The Limited Edition Pokémon Pack comes out on August 17 and includes a bunch of extra things! The package will contain not only the swank Onyx DS with the Diamond and Pearl cover Pokemans, but also a DVD of an original animated feature based on Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness. To top it off (or, more accurately, to cover the top of it), there's a Dialga and Palkia DS case and a mini-poster.How much extra do you have to pay for this package? How about none extra? We imagine that you, like us, have a cupboard in your dwelling that contains a dozen or so different models and hues of Nintendo's latest handheld. Every morning, you peruse your collection, trying to decide which DS suits your mood for that day -- perhaps the triforce-branded DS Lite, or the classic gray brick? As your ponder, you realize your collection is incomplete without the Poké-flavored handheld that reared its head in Japan nearly two years ago. You then consider selling your kidneys on the black market to afford a plane ticket to Tokyo, until your pushy physician informs you that you might need those.Good news -- your precious organs can remain part of your body, as North American Gamestops recently began promoting the special edition DS Lite, branded with the critters on Pokémon Diamond and Pearl's box art -- Dialga and Palkia. The paltry sum of $129.99 will net you the system, a matching case, a 22-minute Pokémon Dungeon DVD, a poster featuring fellow pocket-sized monster Grovyle, and a T-shirt. No release date was announced for the bundle, but if Nintendo wishes for the new model to be truly relevant, we suggest launching it sometime last year.

Pokemon cheaters banned
A primary concern of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (or, at least, that of this blogger) is the incredibly rampant cheating. In the past, use of an Action Replay wasn't a horrible offense ... your team would be uber, and a couple of your personal friends might be a bit ticked, but that was all.These days, in the era of Wi-Fi, ridiculously impossible trades litter the GTS. What, you don't have a Level 100 shiny Palkia? Well, hmph, you can't have my Level 7 Munchlax, then. For honest players, or those that don't have access to hacking tools, such Pokemon would take days to train up and impossible luck/determination for one with shiny status. That's why we're happy that Nintendo is cracking down on some Action Replay users, specifically ones using the "All 493 Pokemon," "All Shiny," and "National-Dex" cheats. They will henceforth be banned from online barter.Feel free to start a flamewar regarding the justification of cheating, by the way. We're pyros.
Mario vs. Palkia in the arena of your imagination
NCSX never fails to encourage us to clutter our rooms and empty our wallets in the name of video game fandom. Today, they started taking preorders for some new Mario and Pokemon toys that we wouldn't mind having on our desks! So we can show them to people, obviously.First are the above Dialga and Palkia soft vinyl figures, which allow you to reenact the boxarts of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. In fact, if you buy these, you can't help but reenact them, because the boxes just feature these characters standing alone. Also available for preorder are two Mario toy lines: a vinyl figure of Mario in either his normal outfit or his Fire Mario finery, and a set of plush toys that make some kind of jingling sound. All of these cost between $20 and $25 and will ship toward the end of the year.
