The WoW Archivist explores the secrets of World of Warcraft's past. What did the game look like years ago? Who is etched into WoW's history? What secrets does the game still hold? Leeroy Jenkins is easily the most recognizable name in all World of Warcraft. It isn't Thrall, it isn't Arthas, it isn't Chris Metzen or Ghostcrawler. It's Leeroy Jenkins. Leeroy has transcended the realm of geekdom in a way that no other aspect of World of Warcraft can. While World of Warcraft may have made appearances in shows such as Stargate Atlantis, Leeroy has found a place on How I Met Your Mother, My Name is Earl, Scrubs, and beyond -- he has become a genre and a trope unto himself. Leeroy Jenkins has been mentioned and plugged so many times in pop culture that the days of his being a World of Warcraft reference are in decline and we're coming to a point that most of the world has no idea of the origin of the joke. It's just a funny thing that exists, disembodied from its nerdy, video game roots. So who is this Leeroy Jenkins fellow, and why is he so gosh-darn funny?

The lovely Veronica Belmont interviews Ben "Leeroy Jenkins" Schulz at BlizzCon (filmed by none other than the Joystiq network's own Conrad Quilty-Harper-- man, all my favorite bloggers were at BlizzCon, and somehow I didn't meet a single one of them). There's not much here, but just in case you didn't get to see him do the yell (twice!) at the sound-a-like contest, here it is in all its glory. I feel bad for the poor guy, who must get asked to do that yell all the time-- he's not your monkey, people! But he does (mostly) maintain that the video itself is real, and personally, I don't believe it. Yes, maybe it was a reenactment of a previous mishap, but Pals For Life members have mostly admitted that the movie itself (with the calculations and a Paladin trying to get cloth shoulders) was staged. Hilariously staged, I'll admit, but for Schulz to walk around talking like he really did just "have chicken," is misleading at least.Yeah it's just a funny movie, but you, as a WoW Insider reader, might as well know the truth. Still, I like Ben-- he seems like a good enough guy. Yell on, Leeroy!

The Raids and Dungeons forumgoers are up in arms about major bugs in Tempest Keep's Mechanar and the Caverns of Time Black Morass event. The Black Morass, also known as Opening the Dark Portal, features portals of angry dragons coming to stop Medivh from opening the Dark Portal. You have to kill these mobs to preserve the timeline. However, it looks like the spawns of the portals are either really random or really bugged. Sometimes multiple portals spawn at the same time, and sometimes you wait ten minutes and nothing spawns at all. Poptrix of Bloodhoof suggests that setting loot to free-for-all and looting everything off the corpses evens out the spawn times a bit. Tempest Keep's Mechanar features an elevator that appears to have some issues being visible. Some people can see it and others can't. This bug killed a run of Mechanar for my guild a couple nights ago. Hortus on the Bug Report Forum says that Blizzard is working on it, but many people trying to get attuned for Karazhan are pretty upset that they can't progress in Mechanar. Kink of the infamous "PALS FOR LIFE" suggests a fix:
