I've always had problems with game systems built around disposable items. I simultaneously hate and love the Grand Theft Auto series because of its sweet rides that ultimately get destroyed 10 seconds after you get in them. And now the same can be said of Paper Mario: Sticker Star, a game with a combat system built around collecting and disposing of wonderful, colorful stickers.%Gallery-167338%

The hardest thing about Paper Mario: Sticker Star is just remembering it's an RPG. Even in his cute little 2D-in-a-3D world form, Mario's running and jumping on enemies, an act so comfortable that you do it automatically whenever you see a Goomba or a Koopa Troopa walking by. Usually, that move results in a satisfying crunch and a coin or two, but in Sticker Star it sends you into a turn-based battle scene. There are quite a few new mechanics in both the battle system and the game's overworld, and fans with fond memories of the other Mario RPGs will likely relish the chance to level up the Italian plumber yet again.

Though Nintendo didn't do its traditional "Here are a bunch of logos of games we're making," it couldn't resist a little info dump at the end of the company's press conference. Shown on a screen as attendees exited were logos for [deep breath] The Rolling Western, Paper Mario, Super Fossil Fighters, Rhythm Heaven, Fortune Street, Kirby Mash Attack, Kirby Wii and Mario Party 9. What systems are these games for? Who's making them? We have no idea. Have a nice day!

If, for some reason or another, you missed out on Super Paper Mario's GameCube predecessor, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, here's your chance to pick up the title that won the "Console Role Playing Game of the Year" award at the 2005 Interactive Achievement Awards, without having to feel guilty about spending too much money on an RPG released all the way back in 2005.Amazon has slashed a sizable chunk from The Thousand-Year Door's usual $19.99 pricing, and for the duration of the day (or while stocks last) you can buy the game for only $11.99. You can stash the money you'll save in a fund for eventually buying a copy of Super Mario RPG![Via CAG]

According to (the translated version of) a Ruliweb post about a note in the latest issue of CoroCoro Comic, a DS version of the Nintendo 64 Paper Mario is on the way purple monkey dishwasher. No more information is available than that, but the Ruliweb post says that "More news is expected to appear later." Which is obvious, but, really, if this is true, expect an announcement and official screens within the next couple of weeks.Oh, and allow us to say it first, because you're already getting your commenting hat on: why isn't this Super Mario RPG? We don't know, and we find the decision to port Paper Mario strange, since it's available on the Virtual Console for ten bucks.[Via NeoGAF]

It's too bad that creating a DS out of paper wouldn't really work like this -- then we'd all have a lot more money in our pockets. Our hats definitely go off to you tuber and deviant artist Zikayn, though, for making this awesome video. While we've seen similar stuff before, we haven't seen anything with as much polish as this. We can't be sure how long these kind of animations take to create, having no artistic bones to speak of, but we imagine that it wasn't just a quick endeavor.[Via Kotaku]

We're very partial to this Moving Mario art display, made by Keith Lam. We have to admit -- part of our love comes from the fact that it reminds us of The Price Is Right's "Cliff Hanger" game (you know, the one with the yodeler?). Sure, that's a far stretch, but we can't help where the synapses in our brains lead.Still, the main attraction of this display is the fact that it represents a side-scroller in its truest form. One where the player is the one moving, that is. Using a Famicom controller, the player moves the "television," and then follows along. All in all, it's a nice literal translation of "paper" Mario. Well done, Mr. Lam.*Note: This display and post has actually nothing to do with Soviet Russia. We just couldn't resist the immature use of an internet meme. Forgive us.[Via Engadget]

Dude. Remember that time we went to Tim's house and got like TOTALLY baked off his special stash and we busted out the NES and we thought the controller was, like, making the TV move around the room? Do you? Man, that thing was REAL. I like totally saw it on the internet man!Man, I'm telling you I'm SO not high right now. This thing was REAL. It was, like, on this motorized track or something, so when you pushed the buttons on the d-pad the whole TV, like, slid down this track. But there was this Mario level in the background, so it was like the paper Mario cutout on the TV was REALLY moving through the level. Like REALLY. Dude, you could even make Mario jump and hit motorized boxes with mushrooms and stuff. By the way, Tim scored some awesome mushrooms this weekend. You got to try them, man.Man, don't even try to tell me I'm imagining this thing. I've got the video right here below the break. You watch it while I go scrounge up some Cheetos, man. I've got some serious munchies.[Via Engadget]

  • Playable Paper Super Mario... no really, he's made of paper

Taking Paper Mario to its logical -- albeit extreme -- conclusion, an artist / DIY'er named Keith Lam has created the first physical, playable implementation of Super Mario Brothers. By emphasizing Mario's movement on the background, and turning the "TV" into the object which moves, the character appears to traverse the familiar landscape of SMB, complete with collision detection, brick movement, and mechanized jumping. The "system" is built using a chain-driven platform, which is shakily directed with an actual NES (well, Famicom) controller, thus allowing for some game play -- though with response times like this, you're better off just watching. Speaking of, check the video after the break and see the system in action.[Via Wired]

  • Four48 crew tackling Paper Mario for weekend Child's Play marathon

Remember those wacky kids who tried to beat the four 3D Zelda games in a single two day sitting, and failed miserably due to technical difficulties and general overzealousness? Well, they're back, comically tiny TV and all, to take on the N64 cult classic Paper Mario, in an attempt to raise more donations for Child's Play (their first outing netted a total of $1200 for the charity). These weekend warriors (called the Four48 crew in honor of their first ambitious marathon) are planning on sitting down with a new game every Saturday morning, and not getting up until the ending credits roll. You can watch their exploits on their video webstream (and donate to a worthy cause) on their site. We highly suggest it -- if watching these guys trudge through classic games doesn't trigger your nostalgia gland, at least it's interesting to watch bedsores develop in real time.
