Say it ain't so, Sylvain! Dearest readers, the sad duty of dream-crushing falls upon us, and we must report to you that the live action Castlevania movie (produced by Paul W.S. Anderson and directed by Stomp the Yard's Sylvain White) has been halted thanks to the ongoing writer's guild strike. You may remember that when we last heard about the film, it was being rushed to production to try to beat the start of the strike, a noble goal it apparently failed to reach. (Way to go, higher power that we now have a renewed faith in!) That said, like a recently slain Transylvanian count, we doubt we've heard the last of the movie.

After being bandied about for two years, a Paul W.S. Anderson produced Castlevania flick seems to finally have a full head of steam. Anderson told SCI FI Wire, "[I'm] hoping to get a script for it in two or three weeks. And I'm hoping it's great. Sylvain White is directing it, and we're hoping to kind of make it a pre-strike movie. So it kind of shoots in the next couple months." Oh, that's right. We forgot to mention that they're hurrying to get it in the can before the impending strike that will, effectively, stop Hollywood. So let us get this straight: The man who produced DOA: Dead or Alive and wrote the Resident Evil movies joins forces with the director of Stomp the Yard and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. ... And it's a rush job? ... Seriously, is it too early to pre-order tickets?[Via PSU]

Paul W.S. Anderson, who you might recognize from hit terrible movies like Resident Evil, Soldier and Event Horizon Aliens Vs. Predator, has been tapped to sit in the driver's seat of the Spy Hunter movie, where he'll presumably get liquored up, spin out of control and careen into a bus full of orphans. Variety also reports that Anderson's getting a rewrite of the script, based (loosely, we'd imagine) on the video game of the same name. In other news, there's a script so bad that Paul W.S. Anderson won't direct it. There's no word on whether The Rock is still attached.Oh, this just came in after we read that Anderson was a producer on the Dead or Alive movie; it's an early review of Spy Hunter from Joel Siegel. "The only thing I was hunting for was the exit!" Oh Joel, you have the brain of an artist ... and the soul of a jester.[Via Ain't It Cool News]
