Sony's egg-themed PSN puzzler, Piyotama, is making its way to the PSP next week, July 27th. The color-matching game will be available for $4.99, oddly $2 more expensive than its three-year-old PS3 counterpart. If you want to see how the game works, check out a video after the break.

Apart from God of War: Ghost of Sparta and some key third-party games, the PSP's lineup at E3 wasn't exactly exceptional. The surprises for Sony's handheld this year were few and far between -- except, perhaps, EyePet PSP, which continues SCEE's penchant for augmented reality games. Check out all the trailers after the break.

Either our buddies over in Japan really love small, fat bird creatures or Piyotama is getting the royal treatment for no real reason. In the past, we've had Christmas skins and before that, a Halloween skin. Now those birdies are getting dressed for Valentine's Day. Sure, you'll still spend your time popping their eggs, but at least they're not ignorant to Cupid's arrows of love. Or something equal in dumbitude. We're inventing words. Luckily, the skin is cute, so if you're into collecting this stuff, it's coming soon on the Japanese PS Store.

Still have that puzzle game Piyotama on your hard drive? For Halloween, SCEI gave fans of the game a special treat by offering a free Halloween skin for the game. Now, they're doing the same for Christmas. Currently, the skin is available on the Japanese PS Store, but we won't be surprised to see it hit other territories quite soon. Luckily for us, the game never left our hard drives -- simply because it took so little space on our hard drive.

What could possibly be cuter than a fat little chicken helping you to hatch/destroy her eggs? How about a fat little chicken dressed up as a mummy, witch, or devil to go along with all your Halloween decorations? Yep, Piyotama is getting a seasonal makeover for Japan, boasting a downloadable skin for the holiday where kids are warned not to eat candy because people put AIDS needles in them. Oh, no one else had that pep talk when they were young? So much for living in a good area. There's also a summertime skin planned for Piyotama, but whether or not it'll get released in the US is anyone's guess.

Piyotama is the most recent original title from Sony to hit the PlayStation Store, and unlike the most recent offerings, it's actually not a dual-analog shooter. Instead, Piyotama is a puzzler somewhat along the lines of Bejeweled, where you are tasked with matching up eggs of the same color for mama Piyo (a large chicken with a seemingly endless supply of eggs). On paper, the title offers a lot. You have a bargain-bin price of $2.99, attractive and well done graphics with 1080p support, online leaderboards and decent Sixaxis support. Unfortunately, when you fire up the game you realize that it's not enough, the one thing Sony forgot in to put in is decent gameplay that rewards skill. Hit the jump to find out what went wrong.

Pastel-colored chickens are trapped in pastel-colored eggs and the only way to save them is to match four colored eggs and let the Magic of Physics handle the rest! Piyotama is available today on the US PlayStation Network for $2.99. European PS3 owners are not so lucky, having been denied egg-popping this week. Two Heavenly Sword videos -- the first part of a Behind-the-Scenes featurette and the first episode of the animated series -- are also out today for the low, low cost of nothing.

Piyotama! That's cool, right? Eggs! Yay! It's that time again, we know what's coming to the US PSN this afternoon. Check below for the full list. Piyotama game ($2.99) Heavenly Sword Anime episode 1 (free) Heavenly Sword making of video 1 (free) Turok E3 trailer (free) 10,000 BC movie trailer (free) Fred Claus movie trailer (free) Superbad movie trailer (free) Perfect Stranger movie trailer (free) How do we feel about that? We're not sure. We're still numb from the thrashing the European PSN gave us earlier today. We will say this though, as annoyed as we are that playable content is woefully limited (or egg-based), that Heavenly Sword anime is pretty nice. As animation connoisseurs we appreciate this sort of thing and look forward to future episodes. Though, not at the expense of demos. Please.

Sony has given us a peak at what we're getting tomorrow during the weekly refresh of the PlayStation Store, and it clucks. Chickens that is; we're getting Piyotama, the adorable egg based puzzle game that was released in Japan a couple months back. The game has an interesting and attractive art style, but early impressions of the Japanese version were pretty lackluster. Similar to GoPuzzle, it seems like another generic attempt at a standard puzzler. No price has been announced yet, though going by historical trends you can assume about a $7 cost. Also no word on if there is a free trial version or not, but we should find that all out tomorrow when we hear about the full content refresh.

Japanese gamers will have a new puzzle game to whet their appetites, come June 22nd. Piyotama is a frantic and challenging game that encourages you to line up hatching chicken eggs in a manner that provides insane combo scores. It would certainly seem that when it comes to developing new puzzle titles, that anything is possible when you have a wild imagination. Sony hasn't officially announced the title for any other region as of yet. So if lining up chicken eggs for killer scores sounds like your cup of tea, log in to the Japanese PlayStation Network and give Piyotama a go.
