While the folks who imported the game have given it fairly decent scores, it would seem the game isn't too great in the eyes of some local reviewing outlets. Actually, it's not great even in the eyes of some of our own here at Wii Fanboy. Some of us have yet to even try it, so we can't offer our opinion, one way or the other. But, some of you already have it and undoubtedly have some opinions to share, no? Care to inform us what you think? See what the critics think below: Nintendo Power (65/100) says the game is great for fans looking for some more mileage out of their copy of Pokemon Diamond or Pearl: "Pokemon Battle Revolution has its ups and downs, but it makes for a decent way to get more out of Diamond and Pearl." [Aug 2007, p.85] Wii Advanced (50/100) thinks it's a step backwards: "Compared to Pokemon Stadium on N64, it feels like a step backwards, as it feels less polished and lacks as many extras as its predecessor, which is now over five-years-old." IGN (50/100) tears the game a new one: "The single player mode is a joke, there's a huge lack of true customization or depth, and the multiplayer mode – while certainly appealing to core gamers – offers very little beyond what DS had."

We tried to gauge interest in Pokemon Battle Revolution, as well as the general feel of the Wi-Fi approach, while playing some Tetris DS at Game Night yesterday. But, if that ain't your cup of tea, there are plenty of other games available to hungry Wii owners, including The Bigs, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Driver Parallel Lines. There's just so much to choose from! What are you planning on playing? Will you be picking up one of these new games? Will you be taking your pokemans online?

We don't think this is a controversial statement, although feel free to skewer us in the comments if it is: Pokemon Battle Revolution is not worth having if you don't own and play Pokemon on the DS. If we really wanted to arouse some vitriol, we'd say it's not worth having even then, but that would really just be flame-baiting for its own sake. We don't even actually feel that way. What we want to know is, is it okay in your mind to have a game like this that absolutely depends on another game to be fun? It it okay for such a thing to be full price?Obviously, if you're of the "gotta catch 'em all" persuasion who buys every Pokemon game regardless of quality, your answer is going to be a little different.

With the release of Pokemon Battle Revolution this week, which you all know launches Nintendo's Wi-Fi service for the Wii, Nintendo's official site for all things Nintendo Wi-Fi Connect related has updated and ... there isn't that much there right now. We're sure a lot of it is just placeholder images and whatnot, but you'll definitely want to bookmark the site for future updates as more games utilizing the service are released.[Thanks, Ali!]

  • Pokemon takes Wii online in US

Seven months, six days, in the year 2007. With Pokemon Battle Revolution being released, that will be how long Wii owners have waited for an online game. Had Nintendo waited until the normal Tuesday release schedule, they could have enjoyed triple 7's and some massive Luck bonus. No such, uh, luck.Though Microsoft launched headfirst into online console gaming with Xbox Live and Sony fully jumping in this generation, Nintendo has been more reticent in their approach. Prior to Wii, just one console title utilized a modem: Phantasy Star Online I & II for GameCube. The Nintendo DS has a rather strong lineup of WiFi-enabled titles, but like the Wii system there are friend codes that must be swapped by both parties in some fashion outside of the game. (Random online play is possible through a matchmaking system, but you cannot save a random opponent's information for a later challenge.)A few more online Wii titles are coming on the horizon: Battalion Wars, Super Mario Strikers and potentially Metroid Prime and Smash Bros. Brawl. Notice anything missing? Various third-party developers have claimed that Nintendo early on had not provided code for online play, but we know Electronic Arts has managed to incorporate online into its upcoming Madden 08.[Update: The details of Metroid Prime and Smash Bros.' online capabilities are currently unconfirmed. Wording modified to reflect that.]

Our overlords at Joystiq got their hands on the upcoming Pokemon Battle Revolution while at the Nintendo Media Summit, which takes place on an island called Poketopia, which has ten different Colosseums to battle in. Of course, the object of the game is to become the biggest and baddest Pokemon trainer. Nintendo encouraged people to control the game with their DS at the show, as well as upload their own captured critters from Pokemon Diamond & Pearl for use in the game.Nothing much else can be reported, however, as Joystiq lets us know that the game looks impressive and is chock full of the classic Pokemon gameplay. We expect to see you online come June 25th when the game releases in the United States.%Gallery-3447%

  • GDC 07: Pokemon Battle Revolution impressions

Connectivity is back: the question is, does it really add anything? The Pokemon Battle Revolution demo available at GDC seems to suggest that DS-Wii connectivity does little to truly enhance the gaming experience. The DS is used as a way of inputting your commands without your opponent having a look, but seemingly offers nothing else.At least Pokemon Battle Revolution looks good: it easily trumps the two Coliseum games on the Gamecube visually (although that doesn't say much). Although I only played a non-localized Japanese version of the game, the cinematic presentation and incredibly enthusiastic announcer really added a nice touch of realism to the game. Certainly, Pokemaniacs will enjoy the game's highly animated character models: obviously, the Pokemon come to life in a way above and beyond anything the GBA or DS games will ever provide.Without being able to see any single player component, it's hard to gauge if Battle Revolution will feature any gameplay "revolution." From the looks of it, the game appears to be quite a derivative product of the previous Coliseum games. However, considering the continued popularity of the franchise, maybe that's enough to satiate fans.

Nintendo must know that online functionality is on everyone's minds as they sent out a press release today, reminding us that the upcoming Pokemon Battle Revolution will be the first game to support Wi-Fi Connect gameplay. Not only that, but they reminded us that it'll also be the first: Pokemon game on the Wii Game that allows the Wii and DS to link together Wii game that allows the player to control it with the DS Of course, you all knew about the importing features that will allow Pokemon Diamond & Pearl players to bring their heavy hitters into Battle Revolution, so nothing new from Nintendo there. We'll be sure to update you all as news develops.[Via press release]

The Japanese Pokemon site has received a huge update including videos and some graphics displaying combat coliseums and attacks for some of the Pokemon. The videos, which there are 4 of, are short and only show some in-battle action, however we find ourselves enjoying the graphics quite a bit.The site also updated some of the DS-Wii connectivity information, which you can check out here.[Via Go Nintendo]
