  • Izuna poster overload!

The Izuna 2 poster situation has officially become ridiculous. Atlus has revealed that the cover of every copy will not feature the same mini-poster on the reverse; rather, each copy will have one of two pieces of arttwork. In addition, they've released the winning design from the Amazon poll. With the Gamestop-exclusive poster, there are now four different Izuna 2 posters. Each copy ordered from Amazon or GameStop will include two, one of which can be chosen. Crazy people can try to collect them all by ordering one copy from each retailer and just hoping for two different posters on the boxes.

These posters are such beauties, and we want them. Unfortunately, they are in Japan. A black one with an orange IV logo features Ryu with new characters Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus. An orange one with a black IV logo features old favorites Guile, Ken and Chun-Li. Capcom-Unity blogger Kramez has two pictures of the Street Fighter IV posters held up by SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono. Another one after the jump. Check them out and drool.[Via Capcom-Unity]

Not only is Atlus including a fold-out poster on the back of the Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns boxart, they're bundling one of two provocative posters with Amazon orders of the game as well. But even that isn't enough coverage for Ninja Studio's roguelike heroine: GameStop orders of Izuna 2 will ship with yet another mini-poster featuring a more dressed, but no more demure, Izuna than the others. You could probably get away with having someone see this one on your wall. We predict a minor swell of unopened Izuna 2 copies on eBay shortly after release, sold by people who just couldn't choose a poster.

While Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns comes with a spiffy reversible boxart feature, that's not the only bonus male Atlus fans can expect this July. There will actually be another mini-poster included with the game -- a much more risqué poster, at that. Here's the catch: in order to get one with your copy of Izuna 2, you have to order it from Amazon.com (which means the promotion is only available for folks in the U.S.). Atlus tells us that there are only a "limited" number of these special edition copies available, so take that as you will.Atlus is also holding a voting contest to see which one of two posters (shown in full after the break) will be included with the software. When we last checked, the two options were almost neck and neck, with the first one taking a slight lead.If your lecherous curious eyes want to see the uncropped posters featuring Izuna and Shino's scantily clad figures, just click past the break.%Gallery-15250%

  • NiGHTS: Journey to awesome free stuff

NiGHTS Community, a site for obsessive NiGHTS fans, came into possession of some rare Journey of Dreams memorabilia earlier this year when Sega gave the administrator a private demo of the game (!) Instead of hoarding it forever or selling it on eBay, the site has decided to give it away in a contest. And the prizes are all being given away individually instead of as a giant pile, so you have half a chance. You could win a PAL copy of NiGHTS or much more interesting (but less playable) stuff, such as a glow-in-the-dark sticker sheet, a Japanese promotional poster, or a two-track soundtrack sampler which apparently was never made available outside of Sega of Europe! We hope you can fulfill your dreams of having stuff with pictures of NiGHTS on it.

  • Promotional Consideration: King of the Monster Ads

Rawr!Of the three Godzilla: Unleashed games released (Wii, PS2, and DS), the DS version is, without a doubt, the worst of the bunch. That's saying a lot considering that GameSpot described the Wii version as "the worst thing to happen to Godzilla since getting killed by Mothra's babies." In its review of the DS game, Godzilla: Unleashed Double Smash, Nintendo Power opined, "The slow descent in Godzilla games has finally hit rock bottom."Nevertheless, publisher Atari had a job to do -- sell copies of the game -- and it did its best to win over fans with monster-sized ads befitting of the radioactive monster. Lurch past the post break to see what we mean!

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/How_well_do_you_know_your_Zelda_grass'; So, you think you're a hardcore gamer? Maybe you are. But, how well do you know your grass samples? These posters, which are being sold at a Viennese store called Subotron for €12 ($19 USD) each, will really put you to the test. To help you out a bit, there are two samples from The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, while the other four are from Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia, Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana), and Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2). All the games without the word "Zelda" in them were published by either Squaresoft or Enix, which is why we haven't gotten them (and might never get them) on the Virtual Console.See if you can figure out what game each sample belongs to (despite the poor resolution). Don't worry if you can't discern which is which, though -- we've posted the answers after the break.

One item in our loot from Macworld was a shiny new (though now slightly ruffled from the flight) MacBook Air poster. You want it? Sure thing, just leave a comment and validate. It may be the closest some of us will get to a real MacBook Air, until 2011, when all MacBooks adopt the same form factor, naturally. To enter, leave a comment on this post, validate it so it appears in the comments section. The comment must be left before February 3, 11:59PM Eastern Time. You may enter once. We'll check. One winner will be selected in a random drawing. The one winner will receive a MacBook Air poster, worth whatever is being fetched on ebay, because you can't buy this thing anywhere. Click Here for complete Official Rules (after the jump).

It saddens us to say that none of us are wealthy people. If we were, we'd fund the purchase of a ludicrously expensive high-end color printer, which we would then use to print this fantastic promotional poster for Professor Layton and the Curious Village. We'd laminate it, pin it proudly to our wall, and then do the same for all of our friends.Yes, even the promotional material for this game rocks. This flyer was circulated as part of a recent Nintendo email, and is just like the game it promotes: inventive, quirky, and a little bit different from the usual promotional baloney we encounter.Hit the break for a far bigger version, and see how quickly you can solve the puzzle.%Gallery-12504%

Whatever you celebrate this time of year, December seems to be when the majority of gifts are exchanged among friends and family. Everyone has their own idea of what is and isn't appropriate in a gift-giving manner, and it's difficult to decide what's best to give, and what we most want to receive. Well, that's where we come in.We have the good fortune of having two of the fae here -- one from the Rogue Isles, and one from Paragon City -- to share with us their views of appropriate gifts for those of you who are playing in NCsoft's realms this holiday season. Their selections range from cost-free, in-game offerings up to something you can tuck under the tree ... or the computer desk, as the case may be.

This has to be the shoddiest game poster ever -- it's just packed with incorrect info. Sure, there's a DS version of Assassin's Creed coming, eventually, but is it out now? No. But what's worse, as well as being a horrible, horrible tease, is that the poster also declares a Wii version. We're sure that Ubisoft is as surprised as we are, since the Wii is ... what was it? Oh, yes, only for casual games, regardless of those hours you've put into games like Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, and the future hours you'll pour into games like No More Heroes. But who knows -- maybe this is a portent of things to come. We'll keep our ears to the ground just in case someone decides to attempt to port Assassin's Creed over. After all, we need more ports.

    11.02.2007

And here we are at 6pm, and hour number 11 in our 24 hours of launch day contests featuring Tabula Rasa. How's things? Good? Friday afternoon going OK?If not, maybe we can help-- this hour we'll be giving away a Tabula Rasa hat, a poster, and an oversized game box (sans actual game) to three random commenters on this post. Trust me, short of (legally consumed) alcohol of some kind, there's nothing that picks your Friday afternoon up more than a hilarious gigantic game box. As usual, you have to be a US resident (stupid laws!) and you have to be 18 and older. Leave a comment on this post in the next hour (by 7pm EST, official rules are here), and we'll pick three winners to win three prizes. And let's make this fun-- in your comment, tell us what the people in the pic above are running from.Good luck as always, and have a great Friday afternoon. Don't go too far, though -- the next contest is only an hour away.

    11.02.2007

Ding 3pm (grats!), and that means it's time for yet another launch day contest! This hour, we've got three prizes, one of which that may not seem spectacular at first, but listen, 3pm, don't be so hard on yourself -- you never know what uses people might come up with for an oversized game box. That's right -- this hour we're giving away not only a copy of the game to one person, and a shiny game poster to a second, but one person will receive an oversized game box (sans actual game). Sure, you won't be able to actually play Tabula Rasa, but maybe you can convince your friends that Garriott gave you a giant-sized copy by accident, and the reason you can't play online with them is because your computer's DVD slot is too small for the gargantuan game.Anyway, rules are as usual -- be in the US, over 18, and leave a comment (only one!) on this here post within an hour (that's by 4pm EST), and we'll pick three random winners to win one prize each. Maybe you'll get a game, or maybe you'll get an oversized copy of the game box without the game itself. That's the way life is!And stay tuned every hour on the hour for the rest of the day (and for the next two weeks after that, incidentally) for your chance at winning more cool stuff from our brand new site.

Our Tabula Rasa giveaways continue! It's every hour on the hour, man -- more faithful than Old Faithful, and a lot more often than Blizzard updates WoW.This hour, we're sending out a Tabula Rasa hat (valued at $10) and a game poster (retail value $5). You could be the first on your block to have a wearable ad for Lord British Garriott's brand new alien-shooting MMO! All you've got to do, as usual, is live in the US, be 18 or older (official rules here), and leave a comment (and only one comment) on this here blog post before 3pm EST. Oh, and the most important part: you've got to be one of our random winners. Some say that's the hard part, but really, it's the easiest, because we choose that one, and all you've got to do is type some stuff in and hit "Add your comments."So get commenting -- you've got an hour! And hey, if you don't win, don't worry -- you can also enter for that iPod, and we'll have contests every hour for the rest of the day, too.

  • iRobot Poster-making-Bot makes up for shaky hands

Making a good poster is hard, but most people wouldn't considering it harder than creating a robot to make the poster for you. Not so for Wyatt Felt, a member of instructables, who created a robot out of not much more than an iRobot Create, an old inkjet, and a sharpie which, put together, can draw perfectly spaced large lettering. Like an inkjet, it's made of individual pixels: but the PosterBot's pixels are the size of a dab of a large sharpie, so the poster is easily readable from a distance. If you want to create a PosterBot yourself, you'll have to have a fair degree of competency with C++, and a whole lot of peripheral kit to build the thing. You make sure to keep at least four PC-Mount DPDT 5v DC relays rated at 1A lying around, don't you?

  • Sony promoting DS games

    03.21.2007

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Sony_promoting_DS_games'; We have a shameful confession: sometimes we play games on other systems. Yes, there is a Playstation 2 in our stately Fanboy Manor, and it occasionally has a game in it. But our DS Fanboy Power is such that even the least Nintendo-like task we can think of-- buying a PS2 game-- becomes more Nintendo-centric in our presence. We recently ordered a copy of Soul Calibur III from Sony's own online store, and were surprised by what we received today. The game was in there as expected, but there was a large glossy piece of paper in the package with it. Upon unfolding the paper, we found ... a Spectrobes poster? Why on Earth would Sony send people promotional posters for a DS game? Have they given up on their own little project? Just in case there was some Spectrobes-Sony connection in the companies involved or something, we checked the fine print on the poster, and found only Disney and Nintendo copyright information-- nothing about Sony.

Okay, so you think you're cool because you got the preorder bonus package with your copy of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Well, you're right. You are cool, and we are jealous. But here's a Portrait of Ruin promotional item that we can all covet together. This poster comes with the soundtrack CD, and features art from Suikoden character designer Fumi Ishikawa that we wish had been used in the game. Oh, and about the actual item this poster is included with-- did we mention that the actual Portrait of Ruin music is amazing? We almost forgot about that part. This poster is only being included with the first shipment of CDs, and, of course, this package is only available in Japan. We grudgingly accept that; our wallets ill need a drain such as a $21 CD.

Talk about a Revolution. Though difficult to see, the bottom of the poster features Iwata, Reggie, and Perrin Kaplan walking in badass black trenchcoats. If Iwata is Neo, though, where's Shiggy? And is Ken Kutaragi the "architect"? Nah. That guy couldn't make a square out of toothpicks.[Thanks, Spex!]

  • An art project on playing with your food

The proprietors of GamePaused, "an entrepreneurial business aiming to spread creativity through video games," have proven their creative chops with this series of posters inspired by Nintendo's latest console creations. While the rest of us could only see pee jokes and Mario Kart DS, the GamePaused team flicked a switch in their brains that enabled them to see the world through an artist's eye ... or the eyes of a colony of ants, it's hard to tell. The Wii becomes simply Fruiit, while the dual-screened DS, well, it's just a Deli Sandwich.Somewhere in this post there's a heartening life lesson about the power of imagination; about the world inside our mind and not the one on the screen in front of us. But why is it that instead of pondering those weighty ideas, we're stuck wondering what sorts of food other consoles would be if viewed through the same prism. The GameCube is totally a bouillon cube! If interested, you can pick up each poster for £13.99 (about $26) or £22.99 for the pair (about $43).[Thanks, Matthew]
