Maybe we should call it "Today's snooziest game video," because the guys at PlayStation 3 Magazine are lucky enough to have a working PlayStation 3 unit (what else?) sitting in their offices, yet they make it look like they're talking about the fuel intake on a 1978 John Deere tractor. Show some excitement! Maybe raise your voice a little bit, or jump up and get down on it. Do something. Millions of people wanna be fondling that thing, and they'd probably be howling with delight while they did it.We've seen human resources video presentations that are more exciting. Zzz. What makes it more noticeable is that we've seen these guys look a heck of a lot more exciting when handling a PS3. Maybe they've been up non-stop since they got it. We would have. Anyhow, they attempt to provide the world with a look at the PS3 startup process, and they sort of loosely take us through the steps."Once you get to this stage, it's already assigned the joypad a channel." Well, we hope so, because like the people commenting on the video, we also noticed that this unit takes a long time to start up. Also, you have to hold down the power button until it beeps to turn it off, and once it's in startup mode, you can't shut it down until it's done. Hopefully people won't mind the long load times, or the time it takes to shut the thing down. Ever try turning off your PC, and then accidentally hit the power button again after it's shut down? You have to wait until the entire startup process is done before you can shut it down, just like the PS3. Mildly annoying, but not a deal killer.Quote of the video: when explaining how the power light changes color to show disk activity, *pause* "It's just thinking about it."Check out the video after the jump, although you might want some caffeine for yourself on behalf of the PSM3Mag.com guys.

  • PlayStation 3 Magazine hands-on video with ... PS3 [update 2]

Folks over at the eponymous PSM3 Magazine (the first M is for magazine, and the magazine is for magazine so, in case you were wondering, this is a magazine) were lucky enough to get their hands on a PlayStation 3. Apparently they were lucky enough to get their fingerprints all over it, too. These things are shinier than the black Nintendo DS, and will probably give rise to a slew of third-party, PS3-branded chamois cloths to keep them looking pristine. These guys define the word bias, seeing as how they publish PlayStation 3 Magazine, but the machine does look powerful and, well ... shiny. The startup video looks impressive, especially the tuning orchestra-ish sound, although so was the one on the PS2. By the fifth time you booted that sucker up, you weren't paying attention to it. Remeber the simple PlayStation One startup? It was simple, to the point, and not too flashy. Everything now has to look like a music video. The XMB interface looks a lot more lackluster than expected, and looks miles behind the Xbox 360 dashboard. Although we're willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and assume it might be not be complete. Rest assured that if a unit showed up at the Joystiq offices, we'd have smiles glued to our faces as well; though we may not require plastic surgery to remove 'em. Some of those PSM3 staffers look like poster boys for good dental hygiene.[Update: added YouTube vids of PS1 & PS2 startups, minor grammar fixes][Update: added Google Video link]
