Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! Wait, it is Christmas Eve, right? These PSN updates always come on Thursdays, and Christmas is on Friday so ... wait, it's Tuesday? Well, it looks like someone at Sony Europe pressed the "Release Stuff onto the PSN" button a bit too early. Either that, or they didn't want to work on the 24th. No, Europeans usually have an unflappable work ethic -- this must be some kind of mistake. Regardless, there's a whole bunch of savory morsels in this week's update, including the LittleBigPlanet Pirates of the Caribbean pack, Vagrant Story and the Adhoc Party application. Check them all out after the jump! Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

This will be the final "normal" PSN Thursday of 2009. Next week the update will occur on Tuesday, December 22, and there will be no update the following week. Let's be honest, though, there's plenty of great downloadable games and DLC available that one week without an update isn't going to be that painful. For those who've been practicing their aversion to fun this year and are ready to accept joy, now's the time to check out some of this year's PSN titles like Fat Princess, Critter Crunch and PixelJunk Shooter. Also, today's update adds Final Fantasy VIII. Any other great downloadable titles from 2009 worth mentioning? Check out the full PSN update after the break. It's a holiday miracle! Though there are a few intriguing items in this week's PSN update (such as the long overdue release of Braid, a demo for Army of Two: The 40th Day and Beatles: Rock Band's "Rubber Soul" DLC), the highlight of this latest update is the delectable set of discounts. Some games have had their prices temporarily reduced, such as Battlefield 1943 and Burnout Paradise. Others, such as Puzzle Quest and The Cube, have been permanently encheapened. OK, everyone, let's gather in a circle and repeat: Oh, lords of downloadable games, please guide PixelJunk Shooter to sales. For now is the time of retail and PJS has been released into the wastes. May it find an audience in this unforgiving time. Meanwhile, PSP Go (and normal PSP) owners have some downloadable games and even a couple PSP minis to choose from. Check out the full PSN update after the break. At last, Q-Games' underground astronaut-rescuinh, lava-navigating simulator, PixelJunk Shooter, hits the PlayStation Store today. We suggest you take a moment to call up the underground astronauts in your life, and thank them for their tireless service. Also added to the PSN: A cton of downloadable PSP games, including Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed! • PSN Thursday: Classic Call of Duty, Bayonetta demo beckon

If you hadn't already used that totally legit Japanese PSN account to scoop up the demo of Platinum Games' Bayonetta, today's your chance to play the official US preview of the game. If you've already played Japan's demo, well, you've played this one. PS3 also gets the original Call of Duty, in the event that you must play COD but are waiting for the Javelin glitch in Modern Warfare 2 to be fixed before engaging in any more of its multiplayer. There's also a batch of add-on content for PS3 titles, including Tekken 6 -- and, as promised, that one's free. So is festive LittleBigPlanet costume content in the form of a Santa suit for Sackboy. Oh, and we can't forget: PSP Minis (yes, they live!). Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

The wait to try out Sega/Platinum Games' over-the-top, demon/angel-slaying action title Bayonetta is finally over. The demo for the title is the highlight of this week's European PSN update, joined by a whole bunch of DLC for Fight Night Round 4, an Ezio Auditore costume for LittleBigPlanet and roughly 17,000 Rock Band tracks. That's just a quick estimate, but we think it should be pretty accurate. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

While Americans prep Thanksgiving dinner, the rest of the world moves on as usual. Today's European PSN update adds all the Fallout 3 DLC, along with Borderlands' "Zombie Island" expansion. For PSP users, two new Minis are available: Blast Off and Dracula -- Undead Awakening (pictured). Now, please pardon us while we go get the stuffing ready. [atomicshark] Thanks to Turkey Day this Thursday, the PSN update is going live a couple days early. "A beginning is a very delicate time. Know then, that is is the year 10191. The known universe is ruled by the Emperor Björn the Super Guide. In this time, the most precious substance in the universe is the Peggle. The Peggle extends life. The Peggle expands consciousness. The Peggle is vital to space travel. PopCap Games and its designers, who the Peggle has mutated over 8000 years, use the frequency emitted by the dropping balls across pegs to fold space. That is, travel to any part of the universe without moving. Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you. The Peggle exists ... everywhere, it is all around us, sniff it up and fold some space... wheeeeeeeee! Check out the full PSN update after the break." -- Princess Tula Sunflower [Thanks to @Colossalblue for answering the call of photochop duty!] Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

As promised in last week's European PSN update, today has reversed the recent slowdown of additions to the service. There's plenty of stuff to check out in the list after the jump, including the original Metal Gear Solid, Critter Crunch, a new Beatles: Rock Band track pack and LittleBigPlanet for the PSP. Sadly, there's no ridiculously named PSP Minis to make fun of this week. (We miss you, Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam!) • PSN Thursday: 'Braid' Dita Von Teese's hair

During the same week that Braid finally discovers a point in time to arrive on the PSN, we can't help but notice that burlesque sensation Dita Von Teese has a theme for the PS3 and PSP available. Ms. Von Teese certainly makes a better theme than Hot Pockets, but we're just surprised to see the $2 item in the store. Now ... um, can we get a dynamic theme? Okay, so there's a metric ton of add-on content in this week's European PSN update (including new stuff for EyePet and Rag Doll Kung Fu) but, once again, it skimps somewhat on the playable goodies -- not that you need anything else to play at the moment. Still, PlayStation.Blog promises that next week will bring a "nice stream of content" which will make us "pleased." Speculation, engage! • PSN Thursday: Try Trine, Get Gex

PS3 owners don't have much to download, with Numblast (pictured above) and Military Madness the sole new games on PSN this week. For your retro thrills, Gex crawls out of the Not-Very-Popular-PS1-Mascots Archive. Make sure you get the free LBP birthday costume, and don't miss out on the Trine demo (especially if you're on the fence!). PSP owners have a lot more to choose from with the addition of Numblast, Dissidia, Ghostbusters and a free MotorStorm: Arctic Edge demo. It's another slightly skimpy week on the ol' European PSN update. Let's see ... there's some Brutal Legend DLC, a few new Rock Band tracks, and -- oh! We finally got that PSOne Classic featuring everyone's favorite Square Enix hero: Party Time with Winnie the Pooh. What? He was in Kingdom Hearts, remember? There are plenty of nice demos to try out with this week's PSN Update. For PS3 owners, the second Ratchet and Clank demo is available, with players taking control of the lombax with a weapon fetish. Also, there's the demo for the big girl inside of us all, as Fat Princess stuffs herself into a smaller size offering. Meanwhile, on PSP, the happiest blobs in this LocoRoco: Midnight Carnival world, along with the very angry Jak and Daxter, offer up demos. Check out the full PSN update after the break. Don't call it a comeback! Well, okay, call it a comeback if you must -- after last week's sorry showing, the European PSN releases from this week are fairly phenomenal. There's a pair of demos for Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, new content for DJ Hero, EyePet and PAIN, as well as the full version of LocoRoco Midnight Carnival. 10.22.2009

After a "last-minute bug" delayed its PSN release back in July, with a hold-up in quality assurance in September, it appears that it's finally time for tryin' Trine. Then again, with the way Critter Crunch (demo out now) sold, it appears folks are into their big holiday retail titles at the moment. Admit it, you're playing Uncharted 2 for the third time right now. Check out the full PSN update after the break. Yeesh. To say the European PSN update hit a dry spell this week would be offensive to dry spells. Let's see, we got ... some DLC for EyePet, those ten Queen songs for Rock Band, and ... some DLC for Hannah Montana: Rock Out The Show. One piece of this downloadable content is something called a "Hannah Montana Fashion Add-on," causing us to wonder what type of fashion is present in the game without this content in place. We may never know. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

  • PSN Thursday: Begun, the Mushroom Wars have

    10.15.2009

The PSN update returns this week with another game that looks adorable and safe, yet conceals some disturbing ideas. Mushroom Wars looks beautiful and innocent, but like any good RTS, it's all about exterminating the competition. Genocide isn't supposed to be cute. This comes following Capybara's Critter Crunch, last week's "cute, yet disturbing game," and remember Fat Princess? That wasn't all that long ago either. We're sensing a theme ... a theme we can't help but put money down on. Check out the full PSN update after the break.
